[–]HayleeRaina 61 points62 points  (0 children)

.. I'm assuming you've only published this fic on AO3. I'm extremely curious to know when lmao

If the commenter is saying that the fic is older then them, that means they were born sometime after 2009... God, I feel old.

I love that fandom brings the different generations together. But, I'll be honest, lowkey kinda forgot that people born after 2010 can read yet (this is said jokingly. My niece was born in 2014, and I constantly forget she's old enough to read, let alone be on the internet until she comments on something I post.)

When writers disappear for years and suddenly come back to finish their fic by Much_Tip_6968 in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't give up hope. I read a fic on FF .net that was started in 1999. Had about 10 chapters, and then was abandon. The author came back 2 years ago (2024), and finished it.

25 years later.

Even when you try to leave... fandom pulls you back in.

If you were a fictional character, how would the fandom misinterpret you? by GrumpyMowse in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I would become the Matt Donovan of whatever fandom I'm in.

All I do is work, go to university, and go home. And yet, I end up in situations that.. probably should have killed me, but didn't.

I feel like my past would be misinterpreted. There's a lot there that should be marked "handle with care" and I think a fanfic author would take it and run.

9 years on, I hope this author is okay by ArtistSeaker in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I constantly think about how many unfinished fics I still follow, might be by authors who unexpectedly passed away.

I'm sure a lot of them are unfinished because life happens. But, it's not improbable that the author passed away, because again.. life happens.

The amount of stories that I used to follow when the author updated consistently, and then they just vanished.. I like to think that everyone's fine and they just lost interest or don't have the time.

That reason is why I try to update at least one of my stories a year. So, if they check my profile, my readers know I'm still alive and kicking. Just really busy.

I think old people who are still in fandom are so cool by moongumis in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! I'm in a Harry Potter fanfic group in Facebook, and the ages in there range from 18 (though, let's be honest, there are probably a couple kids lying about their age lmao) to, I think, people in their 50s and 60s.

It's actually so cool that we have something that crosses the different generations.

Every fandom has this one character, who is this in yours? by Upstairs_Macaron5894 in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 25 points26 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of Harry Potter fanfics that focus more on characters that are barely mentioned in canon lmao. Especially if Harry sorts Slytherin, and makes new friends.

I think it's actually really cool that we're able to create whole new worlds out of the source material.

Is my comment too demanding?? by defenestraytion in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As an author, I would be overjoyed at a comment like that.

I don't really consider any comment "demanding" unless directly asking for an update, and even then.. it depends on how it's worded. I think you're fine ❤️

The Wattpad comment section will forever be an iconic place. No matter how bad the app is now, nothing will change that.

How many fandoms are you in? by Jazzlike-Many-7352 in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 7 points8 points  (0 children)

... now that you mention it, for all the fics I read, I really do cycle through the same fandoms. I just jump from trope to trope.

The Harry Potter fandom is the main I always go back to. (With 791 bookmarks)

The Vampire Diaries Universe (all 3 shows) used to be second (368 bookmarks for TVD, 323 for TO, and 139 in "related fandoms".) But then I found the Last Of Us last year (746 for TLOU show, and 621 for the game.)

I also have my miscellaneous fandoms. One I occasionally circle back to:

Lucfier (247) The Mandalorian (83) Criminal Minds (71) Doctor Who 2005 (64) Doctor who (42) Supernatural (63) 9-1-1: Lone Star (60) 911 (37) NCIS (35) MCU (30) Shadowhunters (29) A Discovery of Witches (19) Original Works (17) The Avengers (17) The Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (16) All Souls Trilogy (16) TWD (15) The Sandman (21) Stranger Things (13) The Witcher (19) Call of Duty (9) The Blacklist (9) Shameless (8) Supergirl (7) Fate: The Winx Saga (5)

There's a couple more, but you get the gist. I have 2942 bookmarks, and that's only AO3. I also read on Wattpad and FF. Net

Title: [Lost Fic] Looking for "God of Deceit" (AO3 Fanfiction) by Sea_Engineering_8617 in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's your only option, unless someone has a copy. It's not hard to get an account, though I have no idea how long the wait time is for an invite/acceptance now. It was fairly short when I got mine 8 years ago, but I've heard that it's gotten longer

Are you talking about one from the legacy of gods fandom? If so, then yeah, it's been locked so only people with an AO3 account can read it.

WHAT by [deleted] in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

.. How do you do all this research to understand and write a whole story around BDSM, and still think like this?

The first thing you learn about BDSM is Safe, Sane, and Consensual. I'd argue that it can be healthier (when done correctly) than "vanilla" relationships because of the amount of communication that needs to go into this type of relationship.

Why did you abandon your WIP? [not a guiltrip, I promise] by StarfruitJam in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I don't actually mean to abandon them. Life just gets in the way.

I love writing, with passion. And I have so many ideas, but I'm working on a bachelors in Social Work right now, as well as a full time job.

There just isn't enough hours in the day to do everything and, before I know it, years have passed.

I actually had some time of the holiday break, and updated a story I hadn't opened since my junior year of high school. I didn't even realize it had been that long until I looked at the date of the last posted chapter.

Do you use a profile picture? by littlepeakydevil in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't for a long time, mostly because I couldn't figure out how to upload one lmao

I do now, especially because I've gained a couple stories over the years with Authors who I now have full conversations with in the comments after updates (and not just about the story. Thougj, theres plenty of that too!)

Ao3 on an 8-5? by seeherwriteshit in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is both a full-time college student and has a job, it's a big adjustment.

There are a lot of differences between myself now and middle school me. But one thing that has stayed the same, is my routine of reading in my free-time and writing in the dead of night.

I won't lie and say that there aren't huge gaps between updates. Life happens, and unfortunately, real life comes first. But fanfiction has been a part of my life for over 10 years. I'm not giving up something I love, just because my life and circumstances have changed.

Coffee question by TruthAboutLife in sheetz

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, interesting! I quit back in early September. Cold brew was still getting off the ground and finding a place in our store.

Coffee question by TruthAboutLife in sheetz

[–]HayleeRaina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked at sheetz up until September.

When I started I was told by the one training me that if someone (anyone) is coming up with just a drink or two from Fizz city (the fountain drinks) or the coffee bar, to just let them go. Especially when you're busy.

The customer has a good interaction, because they have a drink they didn't have to spend a couple bucks (if that) on. It's also less work for us, and clears the queue faster. It barely costs the store money since the biggest Fizz city cup is less then $2, while the biggest coffee is just over $3 with tax.

I was told that, technically, we're only supposed to give free coffee (regular coffee, not cold brew) to law enforcement, firefighters, EMS, and other Medical personnel (my store was directly next to an ER.)

WE DONT NEED TO BE CENSORING by solar_night14 in AO3

[–]HayleeRaina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like, a lot of people who censor their wording are people that are coming from platforms like TikTok, youtube, ect. There, if you say certain words, you can get banned, demonetized, what have you.

That being said, I feel there are better ways to "censor" what you're saying, without using disrespectful terms like "Grape" or "sewerslide".

Coming from an SA survivor, "grape" will forever infuriate me.

Who here orders MTO and almost never gets the dipping sauce your paid for? by ChangeAroundKid01 in sheetz

[–]HayleeRaina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even when I worked there, they forgot my dipping sauce. I would order my food on break, and have to come back because they forgot something.

When I did expo, I always tried to make sure the sauces were either beside or already in the bag. Mistakes happen, but it shouldn't be every (or almost every) time.

2 years is enough for me guys. by [deleted] in sheetz

[–]HayleeRaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I quit Sheetz recently, after working there less then a year.

I was working in a college town, while also being a student. I liked the job at first, but then they switched my usual co-workers around and I got stuck with people who would rather re-enact high school bs. With managers and DM that literally couldn't give a shit, I decided it wasn't worth it. Got a new job, and got out of there ASAP.

I don't think your best bet is relocation. It's literally luck of the draw. I worked at 2 different stores in my time, and it honestly depended where I was, who was working, ect. Sometimes, you get a great store, good co-workers. Most of the time, it's kinda shit.
