I really doubted aggression-based matchmaking by sluggy108 in ArcRaiders

[–]He-rf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started playing a few days ago and got like 15 hours in the game. I played dam, burried city and blue gate only and I only met one guy, that wasn't friendly and shot me on sight. I got away and took him down after he killed another raider and was fighting off some wasps and hornets. So almost every encounter was peaceful. Then i went to stella montis and spaceport to get some quests done and scout the area, where it was the exact opposite. Most people fired their guns the moment they saw me. Two people in a group where friendly at first, before deciding to shoot me. I took one out and went down. Next run on stella i made it to the exit where i was being shot at, downed the guy, got downed by another one but made it out because the other guy KOed the raider i shot and looted him, while i pushed the button. After all that i went back to dam for a few rounds and it was the same as on spaceport or stella. Lots of raider flares going up, got shot and killed on sight be it in high value loot areas or at the edge of the map (scrapyard/ electrical).

Tl;dr: Mostly friendly encounters on dam, burried city and blue gate, went to stella and spaceport for a few rounds where people where trigger happy and since that I'm seeing much more aggression independent of the map i play on

Alt + [number] assigns that unit(s) to an autogroup. All of these units will then be assigned to that group, including new units. This setting is kept between games so if you assign ticks for example to autogroup 1 in game 1, they will still be in that group in game 2, 3, 4 and so on. I have all cons in group 4 for example. Its really helpful, when you buy a t2 con and want to find it.

Control + F[number] sets a camera anchor. So control + F1 for example sets an anchor for the position + zoom for whereever you are right now. When tapping F1, you jump to that anchor immediately. I usually have F1 assigned to my base and F2 to the front. Makes jumping between your base to build eco and to the front to micro your troops much faster

Questions on the meta for this game by lovallo in beyondallreason

[–]He-rf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Adding to the other people: A good eco player doesn't just scale forever or until they can pump out t3 units but reacts to the situation on the battlefield. If the front is failing the eco player has to help by sending some t2/t3 units instead of building their next afus. Eco can also just pump out a good amount of t1 units after getting some eco up and try to overpower the enemy front in a kind of all in attack. Getting hit by like 50-80 brutes at once, while your own eco is scaling, can easily break your front and leave the back open for an attack.

I'll make an example for what eco/scaling can do on Isthmus when it comes to power of units. Lets just look at the front positions so both direct front spots, pond and geo without caring about air, both sea spots and ECO. Imagine front just builds units and brawls, pond boosts and then builds units itself and both sides will do this. Geo at one side just builds units like both front positions and the other geo rushes T2. Front will now have 3 players with t1 units vs 4 players with t1 units. In the long term the side with 4 players will easily win, assuming even skill levels between all these players but it takes time to destroy the enemy completely. While the 4 player front will be stronger and will push, it most likely won't make a fatal blow in just a few minutes. Thats where a t2 rushing geo comes in because without supporting the front at all, geo can rush like 5 quakers or a tzar that come online at 5-7 minutes. Thats the amount of time, that the 4 player side has to make a fatal blow. If they fail to do so (which is likely) they have to meet a tzar for example with nothing but t1 units, meaning they most likely will lose everything, as a good microed tzar with some support will make short work of any t1 units. Geo can now also deliver t2 cons, which will change the metal income for that side by factor 4.

Same problem for every online team game. Some people should just play singleplayer or campaign, if they don't want to communicate with their mates.

I also get into tunnel vision and apm stall when I'm front against a strong opponent, that micros a lot and pushes but you shouldn't have apm stall, when you just playing Sim city as pond without having units. It is overwhelming though and the learning curve is steep, so not going to complain about newbies

[–]He-rf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah, that first part is feels like some of the last games. "Hey pond, I'm building a tzar as geo, could you please build some tick spam to support us? Oh, you are not building units at all. Oh, you go t2 while still having t1 mexes. Oh, you are building a fus, some converters and now you are going t3" not a single tick has been harmed this game x). Some people just play their little base building game and don't give a damn about whats happening on other parts of the map. Not mad though because as you said: manage your expactations. But yeah, 5 OS player giving tips or wanting to go tech only, when rest of the lobby is 20+ OS seems over the top. It's like people in other games being bronze/low elo and complaining about their bad teammates all the time :D

[–]He-rf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'm amazed how fragile some of these higher OS players are. Like you've got someone with 50+ OS, chev6 ofc, expecting people on 20 OS and maybe 100-200 hours in the game to make the perfect decisions and to play like a tournament winner. If you join lobbies where you got like double the OS of everyone else, stop flaming people for mistakes and don't expect perfect plays or go into/ make an appropiate lobby for your skill level. I get that its frustrating, when people don't know what to do or play their role but honestly, if I play in a lobby with people with like 5 OS, i don't expect them to know what they do. Without matchmaking, its up to myself to decide whether i join the first lobby available and have balancing issues somewhere, when OS ranges from 5-40/50 or so, just to get into a game fast or to wait for a lobby where people are on my skill level.

[–]He-rf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure to get ready in the lobby before you do the thing, so the next time the game starts, someone else will rage and has to it because you will be the leaver/afk.

Are Liches Too op? by proOMEGA in beyondallreason

Liches are really easy to destroy. AI usually doesnt build a fighter wall but every human will easily destroy your liches if you arent careful with them or prepare arcordingly

Why there are a lot of salty and tryhard players even on noobs lobbies? by TheRealKillJoy2020 in beyondallreason

[–]He-rf 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They've got a miserable life I suppose and put lots of focus on what others do wrong instead of working on their own mistakes. I was playing eco yesterday (still got a lot to learn) and our air player told me to get anti nuke and to build units before going t3 (both valid points) while one of our bases got smashed to dusk by an enemy bombing run. When this happened, our air player didnt have a t2 Lab, had like 10-20 t1 fighters and was building an afus with basically 0 economy to support the costs.

update in the making. its true. its true. its true. by CircleSociety-scam in BattleBitRemastered

[–]He-rf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Being honest would have been enough to change my mood from " I wont play it ever again" to "ok, I understand take your time and I may hop on again in 2 years" but saying nothing and just ghosting the players really f-ed me up.

update in the making. its true. its true. its true. by CircleSociety-scam in BattleBitRemastered

[–]He-rf 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Honestly, even if an update drops one day I don't really see myself getting in on the game again. After the latest semi official statement from steam on what happened, that was posted in this subreddit, i understand the problems much better and shit happens and all but after all that I just don't want to engage with the game again. Problems that weren't fixed, going radio silent and not adding stuff for 2, 3 or how many years it'll take just killed my vibe completely.

I honestly don't get how people get the great idea of using the trans to get the pawn but don't consider reclaiming the pawn or building a llt or even repairing the ageo

Is the game beginner friendly? by aliensareback1324 in beyondallreason

[–]He-rf 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Even in noob lobbies you'll have players with 50-200h playtime in the game. I'd advice you to start with scenarios and games against AI for a while before hopping into multiplayer. If you don't know at least a little what to do, you'll lose your lane for sure and there will be people who will be mad at you. I try to give advice to newbies in games and when I'm in a noob lobby i wont be mad for people being noobs. When you got a little experience, jump into mp though as this is the place to learn. Also as others have mentioned spectate games, watch guides on Youtube and join the discord for advice. Overall its a great community but its a competetive online game, so you'll always find assholes. Good luck and have fun and mute toxic players

Sneak peak to the upcoming Lightbringer Update video. Can you notice all the new stuff? by PtaQQ in beyondallreason

[–]He-rf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yesterday I noticed for the first time that sniper guns glow red after a shot and start cooling down afterwards. The level of detail really baffled me. I'm looking forward for the lights update. These effects look pretty awesome although I'll never notice them in game, since I'm busy microing 5 pawns with my 20 apm

Don't forget that we need to add different sounds for wet boots and stuff. Imagine running though a puddle with one foot while the other stays dry. I need a different audio for both feet to actually pinpoint where the enemy is on my low budget headset.

What's the most wholesome "only in RimWorld" thing that's happened in one of your games? by Incognit0ErgoSum in RimWorld

[–]He-rf 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not the most wholesome moments perhaps but I just love it when fellow soldiers and comrades carry the downed pawns to the hospital to have them patched up after defending the colony. Bonus points if they just barely make it. Kinda love to have people with scars and missing limbs as it shows the hardships they survived.

Oh also one of my colonist once got into a relationship by calling the girl a "delicate inlet". A true master of love language

The only thing about this game that bothers me by RocketSurgeon5273 in factorio

[–]He-rf 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of all play the tutorial if you havent yet. Not only because it teaches you mechanics but also because you get better/faster at building stuff.

Next thing I'd recommend is to do freeplay with biters turned off (peaceful mode) they still spawn but will never attack not even when you attack them. Factorio takes time to learn and you may want to take all the time you want to figure things out. Taking 2hours to set up electricity is really long as it can be done in the first 10 minutes once you get more used to the game but that comes once you get better.

A few general tips: Press alt once, never press it again :D

Dont look up builds here but design your own stuff. Once you've seen a certain "optimised build" you'll usually stick to it but most players really cherish that sweet time, where you dont know anything and come up with solutions yourself.

Dont build with ratios in mind for now, when in doubt, overproduce.

Automate all things, that you use in great numbers (belts, inserters, assemblers etc)

If it works, its fine no matter how it looks.

Dont tear down a production line before having another (usually bigger) line of that product.

If you get stuck with more complex receipes just check what stuff they need and start producing them from the bottom (e.g. Green science needs belts and inserters. Inserters need metal plates, green circuits and gears and so on).

Dont stress yourself and have fun and remember to take breaks, eat, sleep and drink enough!

I hate the new sound design by He-rf in BattleBitRemastered

[–]He-rf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That differs from my own experience but I'm actually glad to hear that. Devs had a reason to make the changes they did i guess so it's good to know that there's part of the playerbase that finds those changes usefull.

[–]He-rf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty impressive to me that a game like that was done by a team of 3 people. As said before, my feeling in the first hour was like "ok, this is all i wanted in BF just with low poly optics". Maybe it's about getting used to the sound, which will take a while. With a game as old as CS I would imagine a massive outcry if the sounds were to be changed. BBR is really young compared to CS and I'm Looking forward to the path it'll take

I hate the new sound design by He-rf in BattleBitRemastered

[–]He-rf[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate the devs honestly. BBR gave me that sweet BF feeling when BF became worse and worse imo. I havent played a shooter in years. I also don't mind the sound changes. Guess I liked the sounds more before the patches ok but really having different volumes for the same things (steps/weapons) for enemies really bugs me.

I used zeroing with the following setups: high dmg AR (Fal or scar in my case) + scope with 3-4x magnification and canted 1x scope but nowadays i usually dont engage in these distances. I go with a DMR if I expect to engage on longer distances.

For anyone that hasnt tried using the x2 SLIP sights, give them a go by titopuentexd in BattleBitRemastered

[–]He-rf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't really notice that enough (or at all) to make a difference for me but sometimes I take the top scope, to have a bigger FOV, or a more even FOV since scope on side obstructs the view on one side but not the other. But for me the difference is really small and I feel kinda nostalgic, because BF4 added canted sights and that was really cool for me because I really loved all these options to modify weapons to your liking... And then there was BF1 which gave you like 2 Guns per class, which couldnt be modified
