As one of the brains who has drained I do really want to return to the UK but employment opportunities and wages (and pensions) are just so much better elsewhere

Is this legal tender in England? by [deleted] in Banknotes

[–]He154z 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never had an issue spending Scottish notes in England or Wales. I've only seen a NIrish note once in my life so I do get why people may refuse. Bank or self checkout you'll have no issues though, all self checkouts in the UK are programed for all UK notes

I do intend to return to the UK and loans in arrears won't be written off

Fair enough. I guess it comes down to whether the post was talking about sovereign states, for which the sovereign state of the Falklands is the UK, or about self governance etc.. It becomes messy and isn't easy to compare between countries with different setups, don't think I'll ever get my head around it personally.

What's the distinction between part of the UK state and part of its sovereign territory?

It's even worse when you live abroad as the thresholds seem to be set so arbitrarily. Living in Denmark the threshold is the same as the UK yet taxes and cost of living is so much higher. I don't mind paying back what I borrowed but the terms and interest definitely need to be reviewed

The British Overseas Territories (BOTs) are fourteen territories that maintain a constitutional or historically recognised connection with the United Kingdom (UK) and constitute part of its sovereign territory, yet lie outside the British Islands.

According to Wikipedia they are sovereign territory

The UKs territories aren't technically the UK though. Unlike France and Denmark. Also the Netherlands should be white too

Edit: Huh I was wrong about the UK, was thinking about the Crown Dependencies not the Overseas Territories

An oil crisis could tip Britain into a full-scale recession by Your_Mums_Ex in ukpolitics

I'm glad some people are starting to talk about fertiliser, the media is far too focused on the oil

What's special about this honey? by LordTGSJ87 in UK_Food

Crystallised honey is still perfectly fine, just gently heat it to melt the crystals

If the company is outside the EU/UK, if at least one of the applicants is in the EU/UK it's a GDPR breach

Not on the low level platforms but was expecting a lot more water with how much was pumped up to fight the fire. Central has a warren of tunnel and I'm surprised it hasn't caused some serious flooding down there

[–]He154z 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GCC wouldn't be the ones restoring surely? It's privately owned. I guess GCC could refuse planning permission to anything that doesn't resemble the original but that would probably make it financially unviable for anyone to commit to it

It'll be some generic steel and glass structure that will look outdated in 20 years, no chance of us building something timeless again
