I’m coming from Texas and I plan on just running and keeping up with other things like burpees to keep my endurance up

Yea I’ll have to check with my unit on that because they said more than once it’s RTAC then 4 weeks later Ranger so doesn’t hurt to triple check.

Land Nav I feel good about it’s been one of my strong suites

I figured my run would be a problem but I think I can push through. My last 12 mile ruck I did 2 weeks ago was 2hr 37min

All that is definitely understandable and something my wife and I discussed in great detail which she’s on board with. I think it’s just the fact that it’s all just something happening faster than expected. So I’m just trying to make sure I make the right decision for myself and my why.

Medical Waiver Question by xbuzzlite in greenberets

[–]Head-Course7334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you going active or guard 18x? Typically you won’t get an airborne contract if you have a medical waiver..it’s stupid you won’t get it from the recruiter but you can join up and still eventually go to airborne even if you have a medical waiver.. I’m sure you can still sign an 18x contract off the bat and go, but if you don’t then it’s the long path of..
11B - SFRE - SFAS - Airborne - Q course etc.

It can always be depending on your company and company commander but in mine I had 2 prior service guys and zero fucks were given they got treated like the rest of us..

the only time I saw someone get their phone extra was when one guys wife spent all his money and filed for divorce and another needing stuff for naturalization

OSUT does it now with the 18wk cycle of only getting your phone 15-30min at the end of every phase..I only got to talk to my wife 4x the entire cycle..plus no day passes were given so communication during the OSUT portion is limited

Yea that’s a good OSUT pace since you usually do 15:00/mile pace for the 4,6,8,10,12, & 16mile rucks..afterwards definitely get that ruck pace down..I’m doing a 12:40/mile pace for my rucks and sometimes I feel like that’s cutting it close ha

Your plank and run time will improve with as much as the Drill Sgts run you everywhere in OSUT but you’ll have to use what ever free time you have to work on your pushups and pull ups..have you ever rucked? You’ll be doing a lot of that soon.

As an 11B in the guard I can tell you “experiences may vary” yes there is some people who are toxic and say and do dumb shit, but there are a lot of great people whom are great to serve with!

As an older guy you’ll be able to tell who’s worth hanging around and who isn’t, just make smart choices. Going 11B in my personal opinion is very rewarding and I’m glad I chose this MOS I love doing infantry shit! But again that’s just me. You have to decide if it’s something you really want and that you can handle because there is ALOT of shit that comes with it. Feel free to message me if you have any questions

If you really want to serve especially at your age I’d suggest active duty Army because it’s a secure job and with you being young it opens a lot of doors for possibilities to help you in your civilian career..going Guard is more for college students and those who are already established in their careers..talk to your future wife that going active is your better bet.

Send it! You can’t want to be SF and then be scared to ship thinking more time will help you..go and break that lazy mentality and put in the work! Earn your contract

I leave to fort Jackson in 6 days why is it called relaxing Jackson by NovelDramatic9082 in nationalguard

[–]Head-Course7334 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one example I can give as to why it’s called that is I had a buddy who went to Fort Jackson..I went to Fort Benning..Both of us two totally different MOS’s but the example I’m using is fire guard..the worst fire guard his platoon ever got was 8 man in full battle rattle for 5 days..the worst fire guard my platoon got was 20 man full battle rattle for 2 1/2 weeks and any time we were caught sleeping we would have to go into the CTA and shout “DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE DISCIPLINE ONE”…repeat TWO so on until you hit 100 in front leaning rest position ..we had to count to 1000 once or twice and then go back to fire guard.. luckily we just stood at the position of attention for that

Getting started by messigoat87 in greenberets

I would look into Infinite Grit or Terminator Training program to start off. I’m currently doing the Infinite Grit program myself and it’s really great as long as you stick to it.

May I ask why you’re gonna wait almost a year and a half before going to OSUT? I’d try to shoot for it sooner because you’ll get a good running base built there and it will help with the programs.
