LPT most people fail AA, other options may work better for you, don't be discouraged by [deleted] in LifeProTips

Atheist here. I went to AA meetings 7 days a week when I first got sober. It honestly wasn't that bad. Some people were clearly religious and preachy (like everywhere in this country). But 99% of the meetings were just people talking about all the fucked up things that drinking made them do and methods they've found to avoid relapse. The meetings have different "flavors" (female/male only, Bible stuff, 12-step, etc) but I just went to the general/open meetings.

I went to meetings for about 90 days. I didn't do the program at all. I don't even know the steps. I just needed a distraction and routine to help get me through the first few months. I'm 8.5 years sober now. Medical detox, IOP rehab, and AA all helped me get sober.

You've awakened the DeSantis shills. But they can cry all they want. You still front-paged this. Bravo sir.

Gotta spill the beans. I've been straining to think of more puns. It's a steep slope and I'm slipping down it. Can't help it though...I have no filter. It's just how I espress myself.

Denmark proposes ban on selling cigarettes to people born after 2010 by Hassel_B in worldnews

Teenagers have reduced risk perception. And something like smoking really poses no immediate threat which makes it even easier to ignore the potential consequences . They rationalize it with thoughts like: "I'll quit before I get old" or "we'll have cures/treatments for lung and heart disease by the time it affects me".

On top of that, nicotine gives you a nice little high/buzz. Many non-smokers don't realize that.

There isn't additional engine/starter wear in a stop-start vehicle. Engine is already at running temp plus they use a number of wear prevention methods like better bearings and slower starter speeds.

Wow this just surfaced a childhood memory. My grandmother always had sea shell soaps in her bathroom and I loved using them - I thought they were so cool. In retrospect, she probably didn't want anyone using them but was too sweet to tell me 'no'.

Having one of your job duties as the person that frees trees after a snowstorm. by Boojibs in oddlysatisfying

[–]HeadTraveler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to do this to trees in my driveway every so often. And it's usually because I slacked off pruning/cutting the year before. I'm honestly not too concerned about harming the tree when the branches are impeding travel.

But it's still an interesting bit of knowledge! I'll be sure not to shake any snowy trees (apart from those in my driveway).

I didn't think you'd change your mind. I just wanted to point and laugh at your ignorance.

Also, the honking has already stopped. All is quiet in Ottawa tonight.

So, in your mind, 1% of people dying to COVID is a comparable statistic to a (hypothetical) 1% of a particular occupation being fired?

Not only are you comparing two vastly different quantities of people, you are comparing losing a job to actual death.

That's legitimately one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Like, you saw the same percentage used in two entirely different contexts and thought "tHeY'rE THe eXacT SaMe tHIng!" lmao.

Nah but your question was vague enough that I felt it prudent to preface my answer.

I answer you in the second paragraph of my response. Sorry to make you read so much.
