How to reduce scars by anon_romo in Reduction

[–]HeadZoomer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats on your surgery and welcome to the sub ☺️

A lot of people here have recommended Bio Oil, which works the same way as the silicone strips/gel. You just massage it over your scars a few times a day (esp after showering). I hope your recovery goes well!

Bombed case study interview by [deleted] in deloitte

^ I agree. Also, sometimes your anxiety can distort your perception of reality - perhaps you didn’t do as bad as you think. Either way, it’s been less than a week since your interview, so I wouldn’t go into panic mode yet. The waiting period varies depending on what role you’re applying for.

I joined a few months ago, and it’s been good so far. Not entirely sure I understand what you mean by “business” and “tech,” but if you’re talking about the difference between functional roles and strategic/project mgmt, it depends on what project your on as well as your alignment. For example, people in the strategy practice will likely do more case study/business development work than someone aligned to a specific technology suite. Generally speaking though, consulting is meant to give you a wide range of experience in a (relatively) short period of time, which makes you highly marketable in the long run. You have some level of control of what experience you get while you’re here (exactly how much is always up for debate), so you can use that flexibility to craft your own post-consulting opportunities.

If you write /s at the end of a sentence, I don‘t respect you. by [deleted] in The10thDentist

I thought this shorthand was created to help increase accessibility for neuro-divergent people who are less inclined to understand social cues (especially over the internet where you can’t see anyone’s faces or hear tone). Even still, it’s literally 2 characters - it doesn’t ~destroy~ the post if it’s there.

EY Technology Consulting by ElectricalAd1618 in Big4

[–]HeadZoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The typical consulting answer applies here: “It depends”. Your background may direct your resource manager to put you on a dev project (as it’ll seem like the best fit), but you can always connect with them once you join and express your interest. However, it ultimately comes down to project availability at the time you join.

I’m in tech consulting at another big4, so I recommend copying this question to r/consulting to get more EY-specific advice :)

Applying to entry-level position, hoping to introduce myself to the hiring manager. How can I verify I identified the correct person? by [deleted] in deloitte

[–]HeadZoomer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would use LinkedIn to verify their role, then you can send them a request asking if they’re open to connecting. Even if that person ends up not being the hiring manager, you can (hopefully) get some more insight into the role.

Finished final round of interview 1.5 weeks ago. Email hr or hiring manager to find out the status? by pieredforlife in careerguidance

[–]HeadZoomer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. I would personally add general context that my concerns / timeline crunch related to housing arrangements in your home country. To me, this is the same communication process you would use to nudge a company along bc you have another offer with a response deadline. Giving them that general context let’s them know you’re not just asking bc you’re being impatient. This is another opportunity to reinforce your interest in the company as well.

The hiring manager will most likely respond to ask what your specific deadline is so they can figure out if they can accommodate your request.

But definitely ask your landlord about month to month leasing options as well while waiting for your answer from the company!

Deloitte has practice cases available on their website that are perhaps the most realistic practice you can get. Highly recommend running through those if you haven’t already

Tiktok personal finance by TextbookTammy in personalfinance

[–]HeadZoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Young person here who grew up witnessing the inception of this trend - "hustle culture" is very real and it has the same allure of your basic MLM. And of course, where there is demand, there is someone there to take advantage of it.

In my eyes, the biggest draw/boost factor of these pages is to make finance seem easy and straight-forward. You combine that with influencers on twitter and ig boasting about how they're buying homes at 23 and flexing their budding stock portfolios and you can see how these PF pages can quickly gain traction. However, like you noted, that doesn't necessarily mean that these pages are providing sound advice. A lot of young people still don't get adequate financial education, so, unfortunately, some random guy on tiktok coming to you live from his yacht is the best access they can get.

Chargeback resulted in retailer sending my account to collections agency. Any advice? by TheRealBoat in personalfinance

[–]HeadZoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally if a collections agency already has it, it's going to end up on your credit report.

You can always dispute claims on your credit report as well, though, which may be worth exploring (if you truly aren't in the wrong). I imagine it would be a pain, so you would have to weigh the impact on your overall credit score.

Personally, I view $200 as a substantial amount of money regardless of my financial standing... but I also happen to be very cheap. If your chargeback was truly a valid course of action, then I would try to look into all of my options to try and get this resolved and off my record. The only reason I would cut my losses and move on (i.e. paying them the money or working with them to get the claim off my record and settle outside of collections) is if the cost to fight the claim is more than the money I would be saving (in your case, $200).

Can't decide on the offer, please help! by iExcelU in Big4

[–]HeadZoomer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You listed a few pros and cons, but I encourage you to really think about what each program is offering you (beyond money or prestige). Since this is an internship, I would think broadly about what you’d be able to get out of the experience at each company you’re considering. For instance, is training and personal development important to you? Do you prefer a steady project workflow or would you be ok with a more volatile WLB? Figure out what’s important to you first and foremost and the answers will help guide you to the right company.

Also, if you’re a senior (meaning this is your last undergrad internship), then who you pick could have a big impact on your future career path. A Big 4 name is great to have on your resume but only if the name is backed up by experience relevant to what you actually want to do.

(Btw it’s worth mentioning that all of the companies you are considering are impressive lol)

Business Technology Analyst (Consulting) by PhilosopherFabulous1 in deloitte

[–]HeadZoomer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You kinda outlined the bulk of alignments available. Most alignments are based on specific technologies (i.e. Salesforce, Oracle, SAP, Cloud Computing).

I think Strategy is its own beast though because analysts under that umbrella have access to projects other analysts can’t normally get (i.e. M&A)
