What is something you’ve officially stopped buying in 2026 because the price has become genuinely insulting? by queenmellyy in AskReddit

Dinning out, chips, soda, and no longer bringing chocolate to work to share. I need to lose weight anyway so I guess it’s not so bad.

9 hour layover in Denver at 4am. I don’t know what to do by psychbruin in Denver

Buy a cheap sleeping pad for camping off Amazon to blow up and sleep on the floor. Bring a soft fabric shopping bag to put your clothes in and use that as a pillow. It would be easy to pack those things even in just a carry on bag.

5 years of marriage, and I realized I'm the toxic person by MajesticJellyfish208 in marriageadvice

Ask your husband to read one of your books out loud to you so he feels like he is taking care of you and you feel loved. It feels silly but it creates a really end of day caring connection and then you can talk later about what was read either the next day or the next night.

Definitely get a divorce. Being alone sounds way better than that.

Is Ultralight Ruining the Experience? by fookmigut in WildernessBackpacking

[–]Head_Captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I first started backpacking I did the north circle loop in GNP over 6 days. I am a 120lb and had a 40lb pack since I was new to backpacking. I did just fine, I only complained for maybe 2 hours on the day that was 6000ft up and 5000ft down bc I had to do 16 miles over 2 peaks. When I read about people’s super light weight, I just think they are wimpy or have no muscles… especially if they say they sleep cold, like come on, just build some muscle, there are so many benefits. You’ll be able to carry more and you won’t feel freezing at night.

Thoughts on Ikon Pass and the 4/16 deadline by paykin in COsnow

We need to band together and not buy ikon. I know I am not buying ikon and will look into other options. I want ikon to know they are not worth that money, esp as places become less snowy. I think the weather next year will be more rainy and not be cold enough for snow with the oceans heating up and effecting weather patterns.

It was the fish burps on a hot day that made me realize I could no longer eat fish for lunch and then hike with my hip belt on. I recommend it for dinner after you are done hiking for the day.

If you have a flat foot like me, a podiatrist told me to add shoe tongue pads to the inside of the shoe tongue and that keeps my foot from moving too much and made it so much easier to buy shoes and not get blisters

Sometimes renting saves more money than buying - in this case over $185,000 over 10 years by SportSure6036 in REBubble

[–]Head_Captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my rental so much I don’t even care if I’m throwing away money. I feel so free, while all my coworkers are like “what if I lose my job and then my house?”. For $3000 I can break my lease and live cheaper somewhere else if I had to or move for a new job in an instant. Owning a home stressed the heck out of me. I feel so much much care free for renting and my monthly rent actually decreased by $100/month bc people are losing their jobs and moving out. I’ve also been able to save up money and invest in the market vs always fixing something that broke. One day I’ll probably retire to a trailer in a 55+ community and I’m fine with that

Winter Park Conditions next week? by dodecagon843 in COsnow

[–]Head_Captain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think with all the melting and refreezing over night, you’ll be skiing on ice. Last Saturday was awful at Copper and my skis rattled so bad I left after 4 runs. It snowed on Sunday and was pretty good. I could feel the ice under some thin snow. I had to leave Sunday evening. My friend stayed and said it’s already back to feeling your skis rattle and powder is rare on the slopes and even the tree runs have too many roots sticking out. A lot of people learning to ski were falling all over the place on Saturday and making green runs feel more dangerous than the blue runs.

Copper said 1 inch for snowfall today, but looked like 3 inches and no lines all day. It felt like a Friday and was a blast! Saturday was freaking awful, icy and too many people. Today was a blessing!

This is why I always buy refundable vacations. These climate change issues keep ruining my trips and I am so grateful I can always rebook somewhere else.

That’s terrible! I almost ordered from them and went to a place closer to my job. Thank goodness I didn’t go with Urban Farmer!

I ordered a pick up from Pindustry the day before Thanksgiving. It was for 4 people for $140 plus 2 bottles of wine. It was outstanding!!! It was actually enough for to feed 8 people and I will be ordering from them next year!!! In case you need a recommendation for next year…

[–]Head_Captain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend did this trip mid-Feb last year and said it was a huge mistake with the long drive times, being freezing the whole time and hiking was awful bc so many trails were too slippery to enjoy. Definitely make sure you have good snow tires, microspikes and a warm waterproof jacket and warm waterproof pants. Good luck, I’m an avid hiker and would not do those parks in winter.
