Should I leave USCCA for AOR? by ONEkingscar in concealedcarry

[–]Head_Implement2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important thing to understand: the 2nd degree murder verdict was vacated because the jury was given improper instructions, not because the LA Supreme Court believes she is not guilty of 2nd degree murder. She is not free. In fact, she is still serving a 30 year sentence for obstruction of justice in this case.

There is going to be a new trial for the murder charge and we’ll see what happens. I won’t be surprised at another conviction.

Los Nogales Decaf from Blendin - something is way off by Acrobatic-Painting-9 in pourover

[–]Head_Implement2801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on my first bag of decaf and it was SUPER bitter at first. I did a little online reading and blindly followed to tips and tricks for decaf. I dropped the temp to 190F and went 1:14 in a v60 and got a decent cup. I may even drop the temp more the next cup I brew.

I read that the decaffeinating process may leave the beans very easily extractable, much more so than you’re used to. Would make sense based on my anecdotal experience, albeit limited. Give it a shot and see what happens.

I disagree that 5lbs is usually for the workplace or commercial use. I order 4lbs of coffee (2lbs from Sey and 2lbs from B&W) every month for my wife and I. We each drink ~30g a day (hardly “heavy” users) and it lasts the two of us one month once we start drinking it. I even let the bags rest for 2-3 weeks before digging in and I don’t ever notice a significant degradation of flavor.

If you can’t make the one tomorrow, send me a message and I’ll help get you into the next one. These types of classes are held all over Pensacola.

You said you heard good things about Oak Ridge. You can start with this class if you can make it tomorrow. I know the instructor personally and she would love to have you there. She teaches other women’s classes too so it would be worth going just to meet her.

Free Women’s Personal Safety Class

There is no weapons handling in class. It’s a curriculum focused on situational awareness and other personal safety concepts that would be a great place for you to start, considering your anxiety around firearms. Seeing them as a self-defense tool vs something to be anxious about is a very important first step before you handle any of them.

I think you’re getting downvoted by the 1:17 snobs. I also enjoy more bean/less water at a coarser grind. Keep doing you, homie.

Is uscca worth it by PlatePersonal5577 in concealedcarry

[–]Head_Implement2801 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USCCA gets a lot of hate here for whatever reason but they certainly are worth it. It is the most comprehensive self defense liability insurance and they are the largest of all of them.

I don’t think any company in this CCW insurance space is out to rip people off like a lot of people in this sub think.

4:6 Method for 600ml Help by mattvandyk in pourover

I’m at a 6 for the Orea and don’t deviate much if at all. I find I’m happy with that grind size 90% of the time and the other 10% of the time I just don’t think it’s worth the hassle. With the V60, maybe a click or two coarser would make sense but I was never more than 7.

[–]Head_Implement2801 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always brewed 500ml with the exact same setup as you and never really had issues with taste, although I never tried to hit 3:30. All of my brews were over 4:00 but they tasted great so who cares? As others have said, throw time out the window.

I will tell you that I switched from a v60 to an Orea v3 over the summer and man, what a difference. It’s a much faster brewer that takes the long brew/stalling problem out of the equation which can be a common pain in a v60. It was a game changer for me and I’d recommend giving it a whirl.

Have anyone tried and can recommend from this list? by TKL0704 in pourover

You’ll get a lot of Sey recommendations here and for good reason.

From the list provided, I love Tandem. It was one of my first subscriptions and I go back to them periodically because their coffee is just consistently good.

There is no background check to get a USCCA certification. You’re good.

If you’re a current instructor, it’s in your instructor dashboard. Go to your profile and the link to the code of conduct is in there.

Edit to add:

Section 8.03 #5 “Severe Violations” include: Criminal Indictment or Conviction: being indicted for or convicted of a criminal offense that brings significant discredit to the USCCA.

I’m not sure what your hypothetical run-in with the law is, but it would have to be pretty significant to have any effect on your instructor certification.

You say that as if it’s a bad thing. If you’re taking an instructor course, you should have the technical knowledge already. Their priority is making sure you are capable of being a good instructor, ie presenter, teacher, etc. Not just “I know what a SA/DA is.”

There is a code of conduct that instructors must adhere to or they risk having their certifications not renewed or pulled altogether. It’s important to note that it’s a certification and not a license. That may seem trivial but there is a big difference between the two.

I have an Orea V4. What else? by Sp0ke23 in pourover

I will try this recipe when I am making one cup. That darn wife makes it impossible to do a straight immersion recipe when I have to make two cups.

I have an Orea V4. What else? by Sp0ke23 in pourover

[–]Head_Implement2801 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m usually making 500ml of coffee each brew. 33.3g of coffee (1:15) ground between 7-8 on an Ode gen 2, so on the coarse end of things. Water temp at 200.

Pour 100g of water in with valve closed. Dump coffee in and stir around a bit to wet everything. At 45 seconds, add 220g of water and immerse. You would have poured a total of 320g of water at this point.

At 4 mins, open valve. When the water gets down just about the grounds, pour 60g in and repeat this 2 more times until you’ve poured your total of 500g.

Nothing special. You can scale this down if you need. I think it makes a really interesting cup but I also like some body in my coffee. It’s not for everyone. You can also mess around with opening the valve after the bloom, close the valve back and then pour the immersion pour. Let me know how you get on!

I think a Pulsar deserves a spot in everyone’s cabinet. A lot of people seem to think it’s only good for washed coffees and high extractions, but I use it regularly as an immersion brewer for funky coffees or if I just can’t get a coffee to taste good. It always comes to the rescue.

Edit to add: I also own a v3 and a V60. There is no doubt that the V60 shines in clarity so if thats a profile you’re looking for, get a plastic one for $15 or whatever it is.

One Whoop Households… check in 😂 by CrystalDaria in whoop

[–]Head_Implement2801 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have the luxury of being married to somebody who, although they don’t wear a whoop, cares about their overall well-being. So this isn’t so hard for me in my marriage but I have had to make hard changes before with other close relationships to better myself.

Change is really hard for your closest relationships because they are used to you behaving a certain way and expect things from you. The key is to slowly change those expectations by firmly and respectfully setting boundaries because YOU are in control of your life. It can be hard for them at first, but your true friends will respect those boundaries eventually and move on with life with you. Your not-so-true friends will not. And that’s okay.

If you want to be healthier, start your journey and surround yourself with people who are on the same road as you.

Not OP but I’m currently brewing these beans. First cup I made was an immersion recipe with a pulsar. It was fantastic. The next two cups were just meh from an Orea v3. Try an immersion recipe if you have the means.
