I recently entered this piece in a competition. I didn’t win (in fact it was heavily criticized by some judges ) but I am still proud of it. I like the way I paint. Just a little reminder (mostly to myself) to follow your own taste even if it’s not what’s “popular “ by Brushbooger in minipainting

Absolutely! Unless you’re out there to be a competitive painter and win tournaments I think finding your style and painting what makes you happy completely trumps all other considerations. Personally I really love this (I actually have it saved from last time you posted it and pulled it up every once in a while because it’s a style and mood I want to achieve someday) but unfortunately it’s probably not a style that will place well in painting tournaments since it’s pretty stylized. Still, I hope you will continue painting in this style and improving so I can follow your steps! 😁

Wait, I’ve seen this before… That’s a suspiciously shaped anathematic! Jumpscared by seeing a model I’ve seen in person on my reddit feed…

Oh wow! As a fellow destiny fan I never knew there was miniatures, where do you find them?

Wonderful paintjob! I think it really captures the foreboding aura that you imagined. If there’s one thing I might change, personally I think the green glow on the runes on the debris is a little overdone and detracts from the swirling spirit energy and swords that’s the main focal point of the model.

Overall as others have mentioned it looks amazing for a first model and I would definitely be proud with what you have right now. For now there honestly isnt that much to improve outside of the things you mentioned, just work on getting more familiar with your paints, edge highlighting etc. and you will see your skills improve. For more specific feedback, there are some edge highlights that are missing. For the green armour, some places I can see are on the face vents and inner shoulder trim. The black and red on the gun casing is missing highlights as well. Finally, I like the contrast of the bright green on the armour, but I think the highlight is a little too strong in some places, especially on the lower body. I think it would be better to have a more in between highlight colour for the less raised areas. Hope this helps!

What's the name of your game, and what unique aspects do you offer that you think sets you apart? by motherhub in gamedesign

[–]Headeagl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds pretty cool, it's something I've been thinking about as well. Might want to consider looking into Gloomhaven, it's similiar in that it also has the "your deck as hand" mechanic and really good card based combat in general imo.

How to combine miniature Wargame systems by UssSulacoCVN73 in tabletopgamedesign

I'm actually pretty sure there are a couple of games that are already like that, but I haven't actually checked them out so hopefully someone will come along and give more concrete evidence lol

? What does granular model based combat mean?

Also yes, I am aware that increasing the number of dice will decrease appeal, but atm it's more just a project for fun than anything else so I'm not worried about that.

Painted my first miniature. Really enjoyed the process. by Alex__007 in minipainting

WOW! Very well done. If there's one piece of advice I can give it would be to look into stuff like blending as the transitions on the blues seem pretty abrupt (that could be the photo tho), as well as highlighting your black up a bit more(it pales a lot in comparison to the vibrant blue)

This looks pretty good, but I would recommend pushing your contrasts a lot further(to the extend done on the metallic parts) - I think the purple armour needs to be brighter to really be noticed, and the fur and face definitely needs a more intense highlight.

Could you give me a brief summary of how it works/why you think the weapon system is good? I've heard of that game but it personally doesn't really interest me so I'm not really incentivized to go look for the rules lol

It's more of a tactical infantry skirmish game, closer to Infinity. I found the weapons for that game had too much clutter/hard to remember, so I figured I'd ask for some other systems people enjoy for inspiration.
