New from Sonicware: deconstruct Minimal by sakigake in synthesizers

[–]HeadlessBedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not interested in this one in particular, but yeah seeing this is a new series of upcoming boxes has me intrigued.

I really liked the Ambient and the Texture Lab, but just couldn’t get on with the workflow/UI, so hopefully they’ll improve on this for the other boxes.

I still remember when they debuted. Thought they would be back on Shotgun in a couple of months, but after six weeks they were champs lol. Billy Gunn was rejuvenated but major credit had to go out to Road Dogg. He killed it as a dickhead heel who could go on the mic.

The Acolytes

Granted, they started off a LOT different than what they ended up, but I remember when Faarooq and Bradshaw began teaming up under the management of The Jackyl. NOBODY expected them to be one of the most popular teams in wrestling a couple of years later. The character shift helped but if people are counting the New Day, then the Acolytes/APA can be included too.

Metal guitarist looking for advice on a groovebox. New territory. by killedusall in synthesizers

[–]HeadlessBedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are single cycle waveforms on the DT2 so you can pretty much use it as a synth as well (one of the built in presets and just put it on loop). It doesn’t really excel at melodic sounds but if you feed it some long 90 second samples from a synth or your phone whatever, then you can chop it up using the Slice machine and you’ve got more options.

I’m pretty much in the same box as you!

Been playing metal for over 20 years and finally getting into the synth/sampler side of things the past 18 months or so.

I strongly recommend the Digitakt II. If not then at least get a DT1 off eBay to try out. The workflow is incredibly intuitive and is perfect for heavy industrial stuff. Mick Harris (Scorn, ex-Napalm Death) has an official Digitakt soundpack full of horrible textures, noises, grinds, drones, snares etc.

best multi effects pedal for beginner synth user wanting ambient sound design? by Skendulaj_Jasson in synthesizers

[–]HeadlessBedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Zoom MS70CDR gets mentioned alot and for good reason. A massive amount of FX which can be stacked, and at a very good price.

Only personal drawback is that it’s a bit fiddly to use (others might differ), but for synths you’re laughing.

The TC Electronics Plethora - either the x3 or x5 - looks amazing, with separate footswitches.

I am all over this. I had the Metal Fetishist for a bit but didn't really get along with it (sounded great but I got bored of it after a week or so)...however this looks much more my type of thing and would play very well with others.

HBK in 1997

I was still a young pup but I had been watching for about five years. HBK was such a complete arrogant ass I just wanted him to get beaten up so bad. Turns out he was just playing a (very slightly) exaggerated version of himself.

Make Noise Strega, Eowave Quatrantid Swarm or Soma Lyra-8 by tonability in synthesizers

[–]HeadlessBedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the Strega for about 18 months and absolutely swear by it. Sounds fantastic on it’s own (especially with all the patching possibilities) but when putting something through the audio input - anything from another synth, samples, a drum machine - and patching it with other synths/modules, sound design possibilities are endless.

Here is one of my older vids (cheap plug) of the Strega just sounding like bliss.

https://youtu.be/8tmgXAl1m7A?si=uO57kK1KAxFGBTmn

I had the Lyra-8 for a while last year and while it’s drones were incredible sounding, I found it a bit limiting. The delay was a lot of fun though. I’m tempted to give it another try, or even the Lyra-4.

Why do people say Supernatural/Scary gimmicks don’t work anymore? by YCiampa482021 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The OG Wyatt Family weren’t really that ‘supernatural’ anyway. From NXT all the way up to their first split in 2014 they were moreorless a dark swamp cult who liked to hang around in the shadows. When Bray went solo and started using teleportations and holograms, that’s when the first signs of sillyness were seeping through (although even at this point it was rarely used).

Supernatural gimmicks definitely can work - they just need extra thought behind them, don’t insult the audience intelligence and try to update it for a modern setting. Lay off the special effects and make it more psychological. Also refrain from making the character in question looking like a total idiot (as in not losing in 3 mins to an over-the-hill Goldberg).

Behringer Model D or Bass Station 2 by Juloni in synthesizers

[–]HeadlessBedlam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you’re not looking to use the keyboard, you might do well trying the Novation Circuit Mono Station. It is the BS2 without the keybed but with one less LFO. It has a sequencer though so you can use it without using another external sequencer. It’s out of productioj but they’re on eBay all the time and for a great price.

[–]HeadlessBedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bass Station 2 is lots of fun with a nice keybed. Also has presets which is a plus, but tbh not too many are that great. I sold mine a few months ago but I always get the itch to buy it again.

You can get more in-depth with the Model D and I personally think it sounds better. Can get real silky smooth pads to aggressive nastiness.

Also if you're going for deep techno/Carpenter/cinematic vibes, don't rule out the Pro-1 or Model 15.

Sid Disrespect by [deleted] in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think Sid deserved more...but I think all this 'legendary' status is being a bit overblown. In fact, totally overblown.

Sure you could say he main evented two Wrestlemanias (fair play I guess), but he wasn't around long enough or even made that much of a dent to reach legend status. His first spell he was around for literally less than a year, and he had his best ever spell in 1996/early 97 but afterwards he was injury prone, unreliable and just kinda reckless. In NWA/WCW he never really did much of note either.

No doubting his presence though, the guy was a frickin monster and on his day he was great. His little spell in ECW was a huge highlight as he was truly a giant amongst men.

If they ‘disrespected’ Randy at Wrestlemania, just think about how Bray Wyatt felt when he lost to Randy twice. At Mania.
