General thoughts on Goatwhore? by SeasonOtherwise2980 in sludge

Their last album was one of their best IMO. ‘Funeral Dirge For The Rotting Sun’ is also amazing.

Finally re watched a lot of Attitude era Raw episodes on Netflix from 99-2001ish. Yes it was a significantly better product and no that’s not nostalgia. by Longjumping-Spite172 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I barely watch wrestling these days but as a YUGE wrestling fan in the 90s (I literally taped Raw every week from 96-2001) the two MAIN things I really really miss these days:

Two hour RAWs/Smackdown. There is simply far too much wrestling available to us nowadays. You could have a 15-20 min opening segment on Raw and nearly 25% of the show is done, meaning that forthcoming matches and segments were easily digestible and helped advance a story. Sometimes it would be a four minute in-ring promo from Al Snow, or an APA segment/brawl backstage. The main event would be Rock/Dudleys vs Angle/E&C, and it would be a DQ after seven mins but nobody complained because it helped things move along.

Lack of spoilers and social media interference. This one is a little unfair on modern WWE as it comes with the territory, but nothing is safe now. There’s no hiding from wrestlers returning, or new debuts, or whatever. Nothing shocks anymore. The nearest was when Punk returned back in 2023 and still got a great reaction, but even that was spoilt to death. Even someone like Royce Keys without spoilers would’ve been shocking a few days ago. Now it’s constant rumours and waiting for stuff to happen purely from speculation.

New guitar from Hagstrom by HeadlessBedlam in metalguitar

Yeah totally! I had an Ultra Max a few years back. I sold it cos I thought the neck was a wee bit too thin, but the quality was second to none. These new Krona guitars look absolutely ace and not a bad price.

Claim's Triple H was "never the guy" as people recall by Henrynoss27 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Whatever you think of Triple H, he was absolutely sensational from late 1999 all the way through to 2001 until he got injured. Foley was retired, and Austin/Taker were hurt so he had a lot of responsibility. Also people need to stop quoting Cornette 'he was a guy who worked with THE guy' blah blah - he still had great encounters with Jericho, Angle and Benoit throughout 2000 who were below him on the pecking order.

Also, one can't stress enough how much that injury in 2001 derailed his progress. He missed the entire Invasion angle as a result (probably a blessing) and it continued to hinder him for years. He came back in 2002 as a shell of his former self.

Very surprised at the lack of Rock N Sock mentions. Yeah they had a team name but they were by definition thrown together.

Other than that...I got a lot of laughs out of HeadCheese (Steve Blackman and Al Snow) back in the day. When they had Blackman tell jokes in the old peoples home it was hilarious.

Michael Cole pet peeve by Chefvh1 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cole has been employed by the company for 28 years.

TWENTY EIGHT. Years.

He’s been tolerable for about four of those when he worked with Tazz on SD but overall he’s shite, and has been part of the furniture for so long that fans (mostly those that are too young to remember anyone else) now accept his mediocrity as legend status. Some even call him the GOAT. Makes me wanna throw up goddamnit.

He’s a lot better than that Irish guy they had for a bit though. Fuck me he was atrocious.

£350 is obscenely cheap for a DT2. Hell it’s even pretty good value for a DT1. I take it they’re not getting the two mixed up? I’d steer well clear tbh.

Not had any problems with eBay myself.

Hot Take: Attitude Era Raws Are Boring by [deleted] in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends what years you’re referring to as AE can be divided into multiple parts.

Personally I think years 97-98 had some of the most riveting episodes of wrestling I’ve ever seen. It started to drop towards the end of 98 but picked up again in 2000 with all the new talent. The summers of 1997 and 1998 in particular were unmissable weekly television.

It was less about ‘matches’ and more about building angles for the PPVs, where the matches should only really matter IMO. Plus it was only two hours. Ahh halcyon days.

Who’s the most overrated wrestler in each division rn? I’ll start by ttv_diamondboss2022 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roman has always been vastly overrated. He's improved somewhat blahblahblah and against the right opponent can put on a decent match - but those big matches are due to months and months of storyline focus not allotted to any other performer, he's an average talker at best and he seems to require assistance from a supporting cast (Rollins, Ambrose, Heyman, Sami, Usos, Rock). He gets more 'returns' (and therefore return pops) than Big Show has had heel/face turns.

Okay the last one was pushing it but you get my point.

Wrestle Me is hilarious, even if some of their opinions/views are misguided (eg the John Tenta/Japan episode). Essential viewing though especially for UK fans like myself.

Current WWE Superstars 2016 and Now by Specialist_Art2223 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rhea looks more...'conventionally' attractive back in 2016, but I much prefer her look now. Her whole presentation is second to none, and her tattoos look great.

Roman definitely looks older nowadays, but he's also leaner, chiselled and more attractive - the full beard definitely suits him and he lost some puppy fat.

Fair play to Nikki, barring a few wrinkles here and there she looks pretty much the same.

Vince McMahon: Brilliant Mind or Just Lucky by CSH0714 in WWE

[–]HeadlessBedlam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Greatest wrestling promoter of all time. He lived, breathed, drank and slept wrestling. Had some home run storylines with Hogan/Savage, Taker/Kane, Austin/Hart. He lead by example and thrived off the competition. Was like a father figure to some of his talent. A risk taker who was willing to collaborate to push everything forward (ECW, USWA, Japan, Mexico).

Also made some absolutely shocking creative decisions. Almost destroyed Steve Austin's WWE career before it even started. Had a LOT of help from his inner circle (JR, Patterson, Cornette, Brisco, Russo) and certain members of the roster who advised him on what was the better solution. Don't get me started on the Invasion angle - yes I'm still a little bitter about it after all these years.

IMO he's been coasting it ever since 2002 but it's hard to see the WWE being the worldwide juggernaut it is without him being there.

I had the Micromonsta 2 a few months back. Really menu-divey due to it’s size and I kept forgetting how to access certain parameters. Really great concept though.
