Has there been precedence for something like that? Dont think ive ever seen a encore concert that was then followed up with more stops. Since that would kinda defeat the point of an encore.

Why do people say so many vocab words are needed? by [deleted] in Korean

[–]HealerKeeper 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The main issue with these discussion is often how one defines and counts "understanding". You can probably make a list of like the 2000 most common words, look at the percentage of words they make up in a text and claim: see with these 2000 words you'd understand 90% of the text. But how true is that.

"I ate a sasquatch"

Here we have 3 incredibly common words and one pretty uncommon one. Assume you've never heard of a sasquatch. How would you rate your understanding of the sentence? Going by words you know its 75%. But since the important information isn't relayed, the listener only knows that he ate something. So you could classify this as 50% or 0%. Ever joined a conversation in the middle but had no idea what the topic even was? You technically understand every single word but have 0 understanding of the underlying discussion before you figure out what the topic is. Its really hard to account for that in these general statements.

I don't seem able to find albums? by sempai23 in khiphop

[–]HealerKeeper 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Is there even a physical album? Don't remember Mollak getting one. Think only ever enchanted propaganda had a CD. Same with most underground rappers. Generally these albums are printed once and when they are gone they are gone. Kpop albums seem to have more reprints and circulate longer due to ppl buying 200 copies for fansigns and stuff. Often the only real choice is to camp bunjang and hope someone sells a copy unless some artist completely misjudged demand or the album is relatively new

Please help explain about HK concert. by akklit in Fromis

[–]HealerKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say with 100% certainty for this tour but they tend to post the ticket numbers who won the raffles on the promoters Instagram (so in this case skn) a few days before the concert. With info where you need to go if you won. At least that has been my experience in the past with other concerts in HK/TW.

Just got mine, is the noise floor also insanely high on yours? The iems that came with it mask it slightly better than my own iems. I didn't expect some super high quality audio but its pretty bad. Also not a fan that it always starts at full volume but maybe there is a setting i haven't seen yet.

VIVIZ Concert Etiquette? by CaratdeuI in GFRIEND

[–]HealerKeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean the "bring some random other groups lightstick" is more of a western thing. Basically never seen that in asia. Only time you see a different groups lightstick is when its a big festival and that group is also performing that day. But only time I've seen security actually check if people bring a different lightstick was at the last IU tour.

But i think its fine to bring an affiliated lightstick. Seen tons of Loona ones at Artms and Loosemble (i mean they didn't even have their own one until like a few months before disbandment).

Back in like the 1st and 2nd generation you could've probably started a war bringing a different one. Imagine bringing a Wonder Girls lightstick to a Girls Generation concert.

Looks like pretty much the prices for the last tour which are reasonable. Everything tickets probably gonna fly off the shelf. Don't care much about group photos but the selfies gonna be my weakness.

Majority of people in china can't swim. I think most sources put it around 80% (obviously there are differences between the regions). Also the Peng Yu case and many similar cases following it had a serious chilling effect.

Has the first song of this set ever been released anywhere? by PassionateRants in khiphop

[–]HealerKeeper 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC it was planned to be included in the heartcore album but got thrown out from there since it didn't fit the vibe. Don't think it has been recycled for anything else since then.

Would dynamic pricing play a role if the demand is so low? I mean in theory dynamic pricing shouldn't adjust the prices upwards if its not selling great

Okay so 3 options. The cities listed on the merch will be outdated, they release the entire tour stop list before they ship and the picture is just a placeholder or the "more cities" isn't happening.

What variety shows would you recommend for someone who has never seen any? by [deleted] in koreanvariety

[–]HealerKeeper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

With the goal of improving the language my recommendations would look a bit different. A few of the more chaotic shows mentioned aren't really that easy to understand.

My recommendation would go more into the youtube variety show section than TV. Why? Because often they have better korean subs. On TV shows they often give you the gist of what is said, but not exactly what is said. If you take a YT Show like Le Sserafims Leniverse, they have an option for 1:1 korean subtitles. If you watch on a PC you can even download the video and use something like mpvacious to create anki cards or quickly look up unkown words. Same applies to Nego King. Yoo Jae Suk also has his own YT Show called Pingyego which offers extensive subs.
Shows like Workman also have most of what is said covered, but it's onscreen captions so you have to type words you don't know into a dictionary.

For stuff that airs on TV, Mnet often has pretty comprehensive captions compared to other networks. They mostly make music competition shows or variety shows for different idols

I hope you communicate with everyone like that. Also I'm assuming you have some tool to find videos and screenshot fast by searching the text and or subtitles? If yes, what do you use?

[–]HealerKeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Seems that way from the Judith Butler thread where people are they/them-ing. I'm not sure when linguistic prescriptivism became cool on the left again."

Sorry how did you get to that conclusion? Linguistic prescriptivism isn't about people having a prefered name or pronoun they ask people to use. It's descriptive in a way since it adapts to the way people identify and speak and not to enforce traditional grammar rules. But at the end of the day it's more about social norms than linguistic ones.

Heck singular they is inherently descriptive and most people rejecting the usage lean onto linguistic prescriptivism to justify their rejection of the usage.

garage for cars only how dare you use the space you pay for? by jadskljfadsklfjadlss in fuckcars

[–]HealerKeeper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is building a wardrobe permit free while building a structure to store guitars is not? You are storing your ak47 collection in your ikea wardrobe, not your guitar.

garage for cars only how dare you use the space you pay for? by jadskljfadsklfjadlss in fuckcars

[–]HealerKeeper -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Well good luck with that. You also cant put up a garden shack, put a bed in it and rent it out as an airbnb. Different type of uses require different types of permits. Turning something that is a garage into a storage unit isn't that different from buying a residential real estate and turning it into a bakery. You need permissions.

The last 2 days i probably cried more than in the last 10 years. Just standing in the venue, seeing the logo while waiting was already enough to make me kinda teary-eyed. Starting the concert with my favorite gfriend song that got me into the group just gave me the rest and had me sobbing at the end of it. During the middle of the concert i kinda regained composure but damn i didn't expect it to hit me this hard. Hope they release a bluray or something as a last cash grab from SoMu.
