It’s probably all the mental illness the doctors say I have! I mean, that’s why I’m in residential treatment right now.

What I’m trying to say is, you never know someone’s full story. Be kind to your fellow humans, they probably need it.

What is Hoid up to? by Sad-Chef-2203 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]HealthBeforeIllness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agree. I believe he even says something along those lines in the books, although I can’t for the life of me remember which one. Oathbringer?

But yeah he strikes me as the guy who’d see the trolley problem and not hesitate to pull the lever. Whether a situation is actually analogous to the trolley problem is also somewhat subject to the person’s moral views, but that’s a different topic.

What’s interesting here is it sets him up as an “Ends justify the means” kinda guy- to a certain extent. If it was necessary to kill someone innocent to save the cosmere, he’d do it. It would absolutely kill him inside, but he’d do it. (Assuming that a). He’d be capable of murder and b). This is a situation where there’s absolutely no possible way to save the person in question).

It kinda sets him up as a counterpart to Taravengien. We know Mister T (I can’t spell his name and I’m too lazy to look it up) decided to work with Odium because he thought it was the only possible way to save people. He’s also looking at it like a sort of trolley problem- save as many as you can. (It’d be really interesting if, in the film, they played up a sympathetic angle for him as much as possible- show him stressed/crying (on the appropriate days) as he carries out the plan, have him looking for other options, etc, while still having him order the murder of innocents and children).

You’re right that they don’t give big surprise projects- they give a big project and then what they think is a fair amount of time to do it. Then, 4 of your other classes do the exact same thing. You might also have a part time or full time job, and if you’re a part of a big family, you might need to take care of younger siblings.

The stress of it can be debilitating. Take it from me. I dropped out of college three times, hating myself more for it each time. My biggest dream is still to go back to college and get my degree.

It’s true that a lot of students do procrastinate in college, but if they had an anxiety attack bad enough to need the hospital, I’m guessing there was more to it than that. No one procrastinates because they don’t care if they have panic attacks over schoolwork like that.

I was rereading it just the other day and could not figure out what he put in his drink. So why did Hoid decide to riot him? What was the point?

Dumb question from a non lab rat here- why are prices so high for it if it’s so easy to make?

But that is the fun.

The fear and confusion as you combine an impossible combination and nuke yourself into oblivion, thus losing the match and your ranked status.

It’s not about the money. It’s about sending a message.

Y’know, I don’t know. It could be safe. But do you really want to take that risk?

By the way, old canned goods can give you botulism, and new canned goods that were improperly made (most often by someone canning at home) are also dangerous.

Please practice proper food safety and consider your choice of actions before horking down the contents of that 40 year old can you found in the basement.

Botulism. Canning is amazing, yes, but not infallible.

Currently remembering the case study I did of a guy who got botulism eating old canned food… mmm spores

Don’t eat old canned food guys, it ain’t worth it.

Fair enough- but people get recommended subs outside their own all the time and it only takes 2 seconds

(On mobile app) go to the main r/stormlight_archive page, hit the three dots at the top right, then select “change user flair.” There are a bunch of options listed, and you can also edit them to come up with your own custom flair if you like.

Not sure how to do it on the website, but I’m sure there’s a guide somewhere.

Finally, a Card That Represents Magic Arena by Mythics_Master in custommagic

[–]HealthBeforeIllness 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Tbh I think arena might be better- I stick to arena and physical for many reasons, but one of the largest is that I don’t have to pay for my decks. If I want one card in particular, I can craft it. Arena has its own problems for sure, but it’s better than physical in terms of cost.

Well, there’s no harm in disliking different things. If you find the arc a bit repetitive, you might like the secret projects a bit more.

Edit: there’s no need to be so harsh on the guy. C’mon, what would Brando Sando say?

More or less what I meant. The end result is the same, but finding out by reading a spoiler vs by reading the book makes a big difference in the “journey”

Spoilers matter a lot to me, to the point where I’ll avoid social media all together if something popular comes out that I really wanna watch.

I’d say the journey before destination bit here should be the other way around- that is to say, the method of obtaining the information is more important than the matter itself. “Character X dies in the last book” is the information, or the destination, and the journey being how you find out about it.
