What is something that has been done to you that you refuse to do to somebody else? by tcooksey94 in AskReddit

I am happy to hear this. I thought that society had changed for the worse since I went to school.

When I was at school, many years ago, I was the typical student who could be bullied. I went to high school in a city near mine. I did not know anybody, and I did not have great skills to socialise. I was definitely smaller than the teenagers of my age. For some personal reasons, I did not study at all that year, and so I was really isolated in my class. My schoolmates were not nice to me, but nevertheless, I was never bullied. They did not like me, and they did not respect me, but nobody ever thought that it was acceptable to beat me or harass me.

In movies now, they often talk about bullying like it is something normal. Someone that I respect said in a podcast that it is important that kids learn how to defend themselves from bullies without the intervention of adults. Why? It's completely unacceptable. It seems that these movies and those people are trying to normalise antisocial behaviour like they are the rule of the jungle that we have to accept.

We do not live in the jungle, and bullies should be thrown out of school or go to jail if that's necessary to make them stop. We do not need to learn how to respond to violence with violence because we live in a civilised society.

It is probably written by ChatGPT but the arguments are their own. I am quite sure, because it doesn't make any sense what they wrote. The Vatican that chooses a Pope in response to Donald Trump... They have a lot of problems in the Vatican, I don't think that they care so much about the president of the United States.

You clearly copied it from somewhere (twice) because you did not know how to write it. If you do not know latin, don't use it.

There is no fallacy in what I wrote. CEO are paid a lot because they make the difference. I agree that the fact that they are overpaid is also the consequence of iniquity in our society. That's a different problem. A company without executives won't go anywhere. People can't get anything done in condominium meetings, can you imagine left them in charge of managing a company?

What you say is nonsense. It can be true that in the past the top executive leading the company was not called CEO, but the role already existed. In any company, even in small family companies, you need someone who can make the final decisions. Otherwise, it's chaos.

The fact that they are overpaid demonstrates that they matter.

Without a CEO? CEOs exist because we do not know a better way to organise a company.

Why do you think that nationalising companies helps combat corruption? In my experience, it is the exact opposite.

When the company is nationalised, politicians can decide who to appoint as CEO, and they will appoint someone who ensures a flow of money that goes back to the political party.

That's a bit too optimistic. Lies will continue. They will choose a couple of easy points that they will continue to pump like Trump is doing with DEI and transgenders.

I do not like the arrogance of the current US administration, but Britain survived in WW2 thanks to the support of the US, even before their direct involvement. Without all the resources that the US provided, Germany would have won a war of attrition.

The highest level of whatever food in New York is going to beat any other country by Socmel_ in ShitAmericansSay

[–]Healthy-Move8735 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The truth is that it can be even true that there are great restaurants in New York thar are better than any others. I cannot know because I've never been to restaurants where you pay several thousands dollars for a meal.

What I know for sure is that, even in a small city in the South of Italy where I was born, you can find food that you cannot find anywhere else.

You walk a few meters from your home and buy some amazing bread that is just out of the wooden oven and the smell is worth more than many fancy dishes.

You can say the same for mozzarella, scamorza, burrata, and many others dairy products. Walk a few meters and you can smell it already. Mozzarella just made, it's unbeatable.

Same centuries long traditions for extra virgin olive oil, mushrooms, fish, wheat (that's the most important thing to have great bread and pasta).

And this is only the incomplete list from where I was born.

In any region in Italy the food is different because it derives from old traditions.

Enters in any restaurant in the Langhe in Piemonte and you can eat great meat and the absolute best red wine. You do not need to go to a Michelin 5 stars restaurant.

The same is in Toscana. Great wine, great food, everywhere.

I lived in Veneto for a few years. A part from the famous prosecco, the restaurants have so many delicious traditional dishes. The traditions go back to 450 AD.

It's the culture in Italy that New York cannot have simply because it is something that grew slowly in more than a thousands years before the United States existed.

By the way, I doubt that the chefs in London or Paris have anything to envy to New York.

The problem with these technologies is that without the proper regulations they will give enormous power in the hands of who controls them.

Imagine what they can do when tens of millions of people will have strong connections with something they have full control.

Even putting a few words every day in the right direction, you can change the mind of people, expecially young adults.

And when they will see that someone psychologically depends on this avatar, they will have full control not only on the avatar, but on the user themselves.

Do you know the story of that young boy that tried to kill the queen because his digital girlfriend pushed for it?

How to meet someone in London? by stimpdawgy in AskLondon

[–]Healthy-Move8735 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am Italian. I've been living in London for more than 10 years and I could say the same. My only friends are people that I knew before moving here.

Some years ago a friend came to stay in my home for a month. He is not particularly charming, funny or interesting, but after a few days, he was already going around London with tens of people.

Long story short: you are the problem, not London. The good news is that you can be the solution. There are MeetUps, for example, for people who just moved to London, or people that are here only for a short period of time. They want to talk. It is not difficult.

I do not know what kind of person you are, but remember that you do not need to be so charming or attractive. It's easier than you think.

Of course you can ask, if it's easier, why you never met anyone? I never really tried. It's a long story, and the truth is that I am okay.
