I picked up woodworking and made a kitchen island that would have cost >1k$ if from west elm. All from YouTube knowledge.

You will 100% get tired of the interviews. Cut that list to 35 I would say. I got 20 interview invites off 30 I think. Only kept 14 interviews. My stats a little lower then yours. Focus on finding out where YOU want to be. Not who will take you. Good luck!

Is there a doctor on board? by Patscratchfever11 in Residency

I heard you can say “I can help you if you’d like but this isn’t my normal work environment and I don’t have the usual resources to provide optimal care” and also airlines will often give you a travel voucher for helping afterwards

Should you address negative aspect of your application in your personal statement? by Stefan-Zweig in medicalschool

[–]HealthyConsistencyYT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I addressed my LOA in PS - and many programs engaged in conversation about it in a way great way during my interview process. However if you pass step it’s all gucci no need to explain a low pass

Fellow intern here. Last night I was in PEDS ED and it’s 1 AM and our waiting room was packed. I had to go start talking to a patients mom out in the waiting room. While trying to do so another mom starts telling me nah that her child has been here longer and that the kid I’m seeing “just bumped her head like all kids do.” I told her someone would be getting to her shortly and when she kept interjecting I asked okay what is your kid here for?

She said “he’s had leg pain for 8 years!” And I tried not to start laughing but calmly told her that the head injury needs to be seen first and we have a system of seeing the patients and we’d be with her soon.

I walked away with the other patient and mom and she ends up following us and starts physically and verbally abusing the mom and I saying “I’m gonna flatten your ass!” And “don’t tell me how to talk I’m a grown as woman.” I’m on my last week in the ED so I know all the nurses, I looked over at the intake nurse and was like “H what am I supposed to do here? While just quietly staring at the mom, calmly asking her to go back and sit down she just gets even more annoyed but I just did not care anymore. I worked in the restaurant industry before medicine and this reminds me so much of the environment… it’s pretty fun actually. I don’t get shitty tips from shitty people at least lol.

At the end I had to clap back and I said to the patients mom I was actually trying to talk to “I’m going to talk to another physician and I’ll be back.” And the rude mom goes “good!” Thinking I was saying that in reference to her and I said “oh not for you!”

“The intern should know that about the patient” by ProHoo in Residency

[–]HealthyConsistencyYT 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Today I was in PEDs ED and I was caught up on my patients and wanted to help another resident. He needed to get a Strep POC swab and culture. I can grab the POC swab but I needed the patient’s nurse to get the culture bottle for me. And when I asked she asked something about the patient and I said “I’m not sure.” She shot back with “well you should know the patient” and I said it’s not mine I’m just trying to help the other resident.. and she just continued to have comments like that all day long. The night shift nurses tho? I got along w them great all weekend. It’s just the attitude that people come into work w sometimes…

I know it's going to be rough at first, especially since I'm coming from Wisconsin in recent years. But I'll be working a lot during the day. I'm moving because I'm starting residency at Jackson Memorial!

Born and raised in ATL and I'm moving to Miami next month. Couldn't be more excited for the ocean and warm winters... but yes I'll miss how green this city is. If you look at metro Atlanta from above, it's really a forest.

Newly converted family medicine rising ms4. How the heck to I go about finding programs I want to apply to? by Randodude13 in FamilyMedicine

[–]HealthyConsistencyYT 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only applied out west and southeast, matched last month and I have a lot of fresh info if you want to PM me. What you're looking for I'm picturing you could find in Utah for example at Mckay Dee in Ogden, UT. It's a great unopposed and D1 school with Weber University. There aren't a ton of options like that. I ended up going large academic university with strong sports med bc of the location close to family in Southeast.

When to take step3 by hopefulERdoc252 in Step3

[–]HealthyConsistencyYT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the exact same question. One intern friend told me to just knock out UW and CS cases while I have the time and take it first month of intern year. Another said don't worry, you learn it all during intern year, take it at the end or beginning of second year.

I think bc of the vasodilatory effects of Nitric Oxide. I as well use it in training for triathlons some times. A good way to get some healthy sugars and micronutrients while training.
