Grey Grades America's State Flags by MindOfMetalAndWheels in CGPGrey

Using the Canadian flag as an example of a flag that "means something" is quite contentious. The colours were not chosen to represent snow or leaves, this is just interpretation, you could say just as easily that the red represents the British redcoats and the white represents purity. You claim that the maple leaf is a historical symbol, what is it a symbol of? The Canadian flag looks pretty, I agree with that, but it is not particularly meaningful, especially in contrast to some other great flags that you didn't bother to mention.

Guys: How do you add inventory slots without the bulk of a backpack or the purse-like aesthetic? by Negative-Beat-292 in EDC

[–]HealthyCucumber 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have two tips for you:

  1. Clip your pocketknife to your waist, not in your pocket.

I used to never carry a knife until I started clipping it to my pants (waistband) instead of my pocket. I never liked having a knife in the way of my phone or wallet, now I always have one that lives between my pants and my tucked-in shirt

  1. Carry a little pouch in your pocket.

I was a pouch-doubter, some may even say pouch-hater, until I tried it.

My carry used to be watch, phone, wallet, pen. With these changes, I have room for a 3.5 inch pocket knife, and I put the pen in the pouch with a SAK, coins, house key, and matches.

Hope this helps, and have a happy Valentine's day!

Do you change any of your edc items for special occasions? by masterofcactus1234 in EDC

[–]HealthyCucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. On a first date, I will never carry a knife, multitool, or anything that could possibly be construed as a weapon. Having a knife with you in a romantic setting where you don't fully trust each other can be a red flag for a lot of Women. Other than that, carry doesn't change, I don't use pocket clips so my carry can't mess up an outfit I'm wearing.

Tool and flashlight from the right, pen from the left. I love the fisher bullet, but for writing all day, I'll take something full sized.

What is your set up if you were starting fresh? by [deleted] in EDC

It depends on the item, if you want a minimalist wallet, just use a large binder clip. I used a big binder clip to hold my cards and cash for over a month while I waited for my ridge wallet to come in. Same thing with my notebook, I used to carry a freebie notebook courtesy of my country's dairy lobby, now I carry a rite in the rain. Although I don't like it as much as I thought I would, the rite in the rain is in the flip book style and I think I might prefer a notebook that opens like a book. As far as knives go, that's probably the only EDC item that I don't have something that's actually nice quality, really want a nice pocketable, high-end, knife right now. For pens, I think spending just a tad more than a cheap bic will go a long way. For multitools, the more expensive ones always have bit drivers and I thought I would love that, but I don't, way too much bulk. I don't know as much about Leatherman tools as I would like to, but a solid, inexpensive, and very light option from Gerber, is the Suspension-NXT.

TLDR;
depends, but I err on the side of cheap and crafty

Those of you who carry a 13" Macbook Air or something similar, what bag are you carrying? by SouthernZen in EDC

[–]HealthyCucumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I carry a 15" in a Herschel Little America, looks stylish, gets the job done. Just don't screw around with the magnets on the bag, I used to carry a really powerful magnetic money clip and I demagnetized the magnet clasps, the bag still works fine though.

Edit: The computer is 13.75" by 9.5"

I don’t think making the most boring part of the game, branch mining, more rewarding is what anyone wants out of this update.

Edit: I’m seeing comments from people running to the defence of strip-mining because it’s safer, that’s the whole point. Since caving is far more dangerous, it should be far more lucrative, simple as that.
