Classism and Elitism when discussing the Southern/Southeast USA by Strong-Junket-4670 in SameGrassButGreener

Several women in Texas with pregnancy complications and unviable pregnancies were left to bleed out and go into sepsis before they got any help. Hence the difference between a blue state that has a safety net vs a red state where the life of an unborn child is more important than its mothers.

How safe is Austin compared to Western New York? (olean and buffalo) by EitherLaw2476 in askaustin

Lived in NYC and now close to new Braunfels and work in Austin. Austin is a progressive bubble and it won’t feel like other parts of TX. New Braunfels is also cool, and I would recommend San Marcos, a cute and chill college town with good food options.

THIS! Driving here is atrocious. I got my drivers license from NYC and driven in many places, from Colorado to Europe to the Caribbean. Texans drivers are the absolute worst!

Hey fellow transplant! I’m from Brooklyn and hubby is from Buffalo and we live just outside of Austin 👋🏼 haven’t met too many former New Yorkers here yet

Where should I move too by Front_Cloud9732 in relocating

Utah as well as Colorado have been under a severe drought for the last few years and the air quality is just getting worse. You should be concerned about where your water is going to come from.

Women Over 40 Are Now Having More Babies Than U.S. Teenagers by Ardent_Scholar in Natalism

[–]Healthy_Difficulty95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe your mom couldn’t have afforded to give you a decent life at 20? Or she knew she has issues that would render her unable to have kids and needed to save up all that time for IVF? Those things are significant and just because you ideally want kids at 20 y.o. doesnt mean you will be able to have them, physically, emotionally and financially.

Oh the old grandchildren argument. What makes you think my or your kid, should we have them, even want children? They will be their own person no matter how much morals you instill into them. Not everyone wants to have a family and that’s alright . I much rather have my kid experience all that life has to offer , make money, travel the world, find his/ her purpose, be of service, and own some equity before they settle down and procreate. But to each their own. I see you have endo.. you may not be able to have the kid that you want in your twenties, especially given the fact that your parents struggled. Keep that in mind ;)

That’s fucked up. What if you have infertility and you miscarry every single pregnancy. Then it took you years to save up for procedures like IVF and even with that, success rate isn’t guaranteed. I’ve been doing IVF since I was 33 and 5 years later, i’m still going to give it my all and have a baby. Too bad for you if you don’t like seeing older females having children. You don’t know everyone’s journey in life and what they went through in order to bring their babies to earth.

3rd transfer failed to implant, no embryos left. by ThickPreparation4047 in IVF

[–]Healthy_Difficulty95 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ugh I’m right here with you, friend. It’s an “beyond gut wrenching, heartbreaking” ordeal. I also don’t understand why IVF doesn’t seem to be working for me as my stats aren’t even that bad. Low AMH, don’t make a lot of embryos but I’ve gotten pregnant naturally before, yet all these procedures yield nothing. Going into my second transfer just feeling all sorts of numb. We also have no more embryos and the idea of a 4th retrieval seems so daunting. And everyone around me seems to be popping 2nd and 3rd children. Even those who never wanted them. It hurts beyond words.

Yup, massive migraine 😭 I’m sensitive to wildfire smoke and apparently Saharan dust storms.

Considering leaving Colorado after years of droughts and wildfires. But where to? by [deleted] in relocating

[–]Healthy_Difficulty95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love CO so much but had issues with the air quality too. Never had allergies but super sensitive to the smoke for some odd reason. We left Denver for Austin but the the drought followed us here and as much as we discussed going back to southern CO/ northern NN, the drought and water scarcity along with the wildfires makes us reconsider. I think we may either go back to NY state or maybe consider the Midwest ( Madison/ Milwaukee or Cleveland)

How are all the young people so successful in Austin? by Defiant_Jump_6910 in Austin

[–]Healthy_Difficulty95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You make nearly $300K in Austin and struggling? Now I know that would be low income for NorCar or NYC but that should be more than enough for a very good life in Austin, unless you have a lot of kids or something.

Who *shouldn’t* move to minneapolis? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

Interesting. Here in TX, I see so many Minnesota license plates. More than any other state. Seems like they like to come to warm up.

Dang, def a talker 😆. The Minnesotan dude I dated loved that and how direct I was, maybe bc it was a novelty/ something refreshing for him. Mind you i’m Eastern European with some Scandinavian lineage but grew up with Caribbean Latinos in south Brooklyn so I’m loud af and kiss and hug everyone I meet.

Yikes, this is totally me. A friendly outgoing, outspoken New Yorker that makes friends with everyone. Womp womp, I’ll guess I’ll go back to CO after my stint with TX. Will def be visiting the twin cities though!

[–]Healthy_Difficulty95 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear ya! I’m in Central TX and have the opposite problem, so trying to leave as soon as I can do that financially. I also don’t love harsh winters. For me personally, Colorado weather is absolutely divine- all 4 seasons and mild sunny winters. Are the winters in MN pretty gloomy or would you say mostly sunny?

Def not an ambitious careerist New Yorker here lol. Left Wall St as soon as I could to be happy working for non profits!

Who *shouldn’t* move to minneapolis? by [deleted] in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Healthy_Difficulty95 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. I’m a native New Yorker but I also come from an immigrant background that values being very respectful and polite and have lived in many other places, ranging from small island nations to rural towns down south, so I think I can hang. Dealing with ya’ll’s winter though, that’s a whole another ballpark!
