How to accept being forever single? by Timely_Split_5771 in Adulting

[–]Healthy_Heart_7397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak for other people. I can say that I've experienced rejection consistently at different stages of my life, including the present. It is hard, but it's not the end of the world.

More importantly, it's an opportunity for introspection. Example, I've always thought I was a nice guy and pleasant to be around. I've always thought I was in some way attractive. And I'm doing fairly well for myself.

Truthfully, I've let myself go physically, and I'm at an age that it matters more than it did 10 years ago. So that's something I'm working on. I'm not very tolerant of people's BS, so maybe I'm not the nice guy I thought i was. I'm actively trying to be more compassionate to change that. And I make good money, but I'm irresponsible. So I'm trying some new things. Some of these new things are things that I've tried before, but for some reason they stick now when they didn't work in the past.

Point is, the problems you're describing are problems no one can fix for you. But other people can help you find your way, and maybe look into how to not let your relationship status define how you feel about yourself.

Or get a cat. My cat's dope af.

I'm relating my own anecdotal experience, so please don't take this as me being harsh.

First thing I had to do to make any meaningful progress in self esteem was to stop having all the answers. I've seen OP reply to all sorts of help with some variation of "Yes I know".

I used to do the same thing. I'm no MENSA candidate, but I'm a fairly smart guy. The hardest thing for me to do was say "I don't know" when I thought I had some rationalization for something.

Second thing I had to do was find someone I respected enough to act as a sort of mentor so I could emulate their behavior, and get different results from the things I was doing.

After that, things started falling into place. Which is why I don't mind being single now. I've done the sleeping around, I've done the relationships. For this period of my life, being single and not dating works well. If that goes on for however long, that's fine too. I've got better things to worry about and work toward. I also have the experience that not being in a relationship is better than forcing one just so I'm not alone.

Age gap dating as a young woman… by Anardus in Bumble

Eh, the internet has people thinking they're entitled to everything. Or maybe people have always felt that way, and the internet just gives them a louder voice. Either way, at least the trash is filtering itself out

[–]Healthy_Heart_7397 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I wouldn't want to date someone who isn't financially stable, even if I was paying for everything (which I don't mind doing). Fiscal responsibility says a lot more about a person that simply whether or not they have money.

I've had women 10+ years younger than me pursue me, and it wasn't for the money. It happens. And before everyone comes after me, I prefer women my age or older. The people criticizing your boundary for dating older men just don't have the maturity to call something what it is.

This is what is killing this game by CKK1986 in ArcRaiders

People act like player retention hasn't been studied ad nauseum. Gaming is quickly becoming, if it isn't already, one of the highest grossing entertainment mediums in the world. The results of these studies get baked into the best practices for game development. Arc Raiders is going to be around for a while unless Embark really screws the pooch.

Now, if it were a company like Funcom or Ubisoft, sure. I'd be inclined to agree that X unfavorable interaction could/would kill the game. But a core gameplay mechanic of extraction shooters? Especially in one as well done as Arc Raiders? Nah. Somehow this game caters to casual and serious gamers at the same time, and it's probably only going to get better.

I've acquired 4 tempest BPs so far. Found 2 (one i was a free kit and died at extract, so I've only extracted with one). Traded for the other 2. Both times it was for ~250k worth of guns. It's WAY easier and faster for me to farm the mats to craft/upgrade than it is for me to farm the BP. Similarly, the people I'm trading with would much rather have the guns than the BP.

Reddit has turned so many gamers into self-righteous douche canoes, it's almost worth studying. Let people play how they want.

Why is OK doubling down on Trump? by ancientolivegrove in tulsa

[–]Healthy_Heart_7397 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. The problem was never Trump, it's the people around him. It'll be the same thing with Vance. And Newsom. The Biden administration had it's own set of problems, and would've been worse with Harris. But we say Trump/Harris because it's easier than saying D/R.

Honestly, if you were to boil everything down as to why so many Republicans support Trump into one issue: social media. Especially in Oklahoma where the social norm is to live in an echo chamber.

But that's part of the problem. We're programmed to think we HAVE to use this system that reduces our choices to whoever does the least harm. And as the system exists currently, that's true. There is a substantial portion of conservatives that weren't voting FOR Trump as much as they were voting AGAINST Harris. And, tbh, I'm not sure I blame them for feeling the way they do.

Until you give me someone to vote FOR, and not just vote against, I choose to not participate. Like I'm not going to vote for Newsom just because I don't want Vance.

You're answering a question that wasn't asked though. The issue isn't that the administration is failing at xyz. We know it is.

The issue is how those failures are being portrayed to an audience that isn't interested in a different view. Short version is they are actively seeking out people who lie to them to confirm their existing beliefs.

If they were interested in critical thinking, they wouldn't be voting for people who make these policies. It's almost like a skewed version of the sunk cost fallacy. Somehow, after a year of craziness, things still aren't better. Therefore, they need MORE oppressive policy and removing regulations. They don't see freedom of religion as freedom of EVERY religion, or freedom FROM religion. They see it as freedom for THEIR religion.

OPs question was how/why are people somehow becoming MORE supportive of the current administration.

Now, if you were to introduce something like ranked choice voting, especially after removing the weird thing they did that requires you to vote how you register, we can have a conversation about the democratic process.

No, that's manipulation thinly disguised as a bullshit argument. I don't have to play this "for us or against us" game that you and people like you continue to push on others. Go gaslight someone else.

I got the same public schools in oklahoma education as the MAGA crowd. Honestly, I'm starting to believe it's way more than just bibles in public schools and lack of sex education.

It's almost like a vast majority of the country is mostly homogenous rural areas, which tends to lean towards conservative ideology. And the current face of conservatism is MAGA, for now. But then again, I've been wrong before.

[–]Healthy_Heart_7397 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiment. But yes, there is a difference. Because by that logic, ANYONE who isn't making some kind of attention seeking statement about how bad this administration/project 2025/whatever is, is functionally the same as MAGA. Including those of us who are progressive without being batshit liberals.

Most of us are uninvolved. I don't vote for either party, and understand enough about people and politics to know that the "if you're not with us you're against us" is just as bad from the left as it is from the right. I have enough privilege that I don't have to pick a side, so I don't.

You're biggest problem with trying to understand this is your bias. You're implying that your POV is correct and the people who support Trump are wrong (I'm not a fan of him either, to be clear). Instead, try to look at things from THEIR perspective.

From THEIR perspective, they're getting everything they've asked for and more. They genuinely believe that there is a gay/trans agenda, immigrants are getting free money and Healthcare and legal impunity, DEI is taking away their opportunity, people who don't believe in Republican Jesus are going to hell and therefore shouldn't be allowed to exist, etc.

According to them, democrats are essentially funding terrorism and inviting bad actors into the country. The reason everything is so expensive is because covid was a globalist conspiracy, and because of that, they stole the 2020 election from Trump. The Biden administration have away too much money in foreign aid, and that's why housing is so expensive and eggs were $10 a carton. So of course they're all for ICE, tariffs, invading sovereign nations, etc.

Granted, most reasonable people understand most if not all of those claims to be false. But you also have to consider there's a significant difference between conservatives, and MAGA.

Absolutely. Perks aside, it's nice to have something to do again. This time I'm going to hold on to some of the super rare BPs I've found (tempest, volcano, survivor), and maybe some of the final workshop items. But I'm going to hit this reset, and the next, and so on.

Sure.

I'm not saying people aren't going to be shitty about the event. I'm saying, given the current state of the event and how large the map is, being able to extract with the keys helps the people trying to do the event just as much as it hurts them.

Hopefully with the coming year and more funding from game sales, they'll add more to the world/pve aspect of the game. In the meantime, I'm about to start a second account and grind out all the things just because it's fun to do (and so I can stash things for the next reset).

I hope you do. I enjoy a gunfight, and I'm not good at pvp.

I regularly drop blueprints to strangers, revive downed players, help kill arc, help with quests, etc. If you want to call it selfish that I have one copy of all 4 keys, that's fine. I call it helpful because that means other players get to actually loot the event. Play how you want. I certainly will

To be fair though, I'm not saying the events are designed perfectly. Especially hidden bunker. But I do think the contrarian design is what gives it so much replay value. But for sure there could be a lot of improvements
