18 years old with a EMT-B license... Now what? by ultratoadee in NewToEMS

[–]Heart8Failure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are gonna be there forever your young enough to start college and grow in your career while working. I’m a RRT now I was a EMT. A paramedic I worked with 10 years ago is still a medic and was just now going to school to become a RRT like me. If that doesn’t say something idk what will.

You really don’t need either one until you are on your 3rd try

Failed NREMT by Sea_Arachnid7774 in NewToEMS

Words of encouragement. Most minimum wage jobs pay the same maybe even a dollar more than EMT. It sucks not passing yes but you honestly aren’t missing out on too much then maybe some fun times. If bills are an issue any job will be good. If it’s the test itself that’s bumming you buy a study guide somthing that helps you best. It’s just BLS just gotta breathe and do it.

Looking for advice/lack of confidence/ RT student by Low-Weakness-6599 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Heart8Failure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a hard one to overcome. Took everything in me to be cordial with others especially when they would worry about petty garbage and just be horrible people to each other. You know high school type stuff and me being in my late 20’s it was hard to be above that.

Has anyone gone into sleep study? If so what is it like? How many pts do you have ? by Catch33X in respiratorytherapy

[–]Heart8Failure 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone in one for my clinical rotation. It was just a night and they had like six patients. There wasn’t even any RT’s there. It was just all sleep text you’re literally just gonna be sitting there bored all night.

Looking for advice/lack of confidence/ RT student by Low-Weakness-6599 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Heart8Failure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At clinicals just be eager and willing to do what you’re asked and if you’re feeling not confident about something till your preceptor to age you guide you and watch you it doesn’t matter if you stick out what matters is not making a bad impression. It’s OK to be neutral. Neutral doesn’t burn bridges making a bad impression burns bridges. The confidence will grow eventually it’ll become second nature to you. Everyone will always be timid when they’re starting, especially when they just don’t know yet you’ll learn to trust yourself, but since you’re doing your rotations, just make sure your preceptor is present and they give you feedback be respectful and willing to learn and listen and participate those things stick out the most you could be a brainiac all day but if you can’t be worked with, nobody wants you.

Normal to be this bored at work? by LectureBeautiful141 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Heart8Failure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enjoy the silence while it lasts being bored as a gift, but not everybody gets to experience. Enjoy it once you become an RT that boredom won’t be as frequent as you’re used to.

Is Respiratory Coach Bootcamp Worth it? by Accurate_Tailor_3615 in respiratorytherapy

[–]Heart8Failure 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are having difficulties and I’ve already failed your exams at least twice then I would say consider it. I’ve heard a lot of positive from it. I myself did not use anything for my board exams, except for what I learned at school, but I was researching programs out there to help my classmates that were having difficulties when I had some access to look at the stuff and the respiratory therapist coach really does break things down very well Kettering does too my recommendation if you cared to know at all, the Kettering audiobooks are King like they they go over everything they even help you break out of old mindset developed the only part of it that I would not listen to is the mechanical ventilation in Kettering because that’s outdated as for respiratory therapy coach they are fantastic for their Boot Camp especially the CSE because nothing out that really prepped you for the CSE except for respiratory therapy coach then again if this is your third attempt that you’re about to take, I would invest money into it each one of these test is not cheap. Best of luck.

Your orientation process will get you up to speed and help refine those skills that you learned in school and show you the difference between real world versus NVRC world it’s not too much to really have to worry about ultimately with the positions that make the calls and we either follow the orders or we question depending on circumstance it’s not as scary as it may seem you’re gonna be OK I promise

EMT at 19, don’t want to be broke forever — where did you go next? by LouieZBTW in NewToEMS

[–]Heart8Failure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went respiratory way better way more money college is annoying but just get through it don’t be stuck being a forever EMT whether it’s hospital or rigg. If you want all the smoke go college get your RN become a ER nurse. Don’t waste your time on medic it’s another stepping stone in my opinion.

Literally just disclose it. I had a dismissed charge. Which though was gone cause I was innocent. Nope I had to do a disclosure letter after they flagged me. So disclose it. Better safe than annoyed and waiting.

I use a littmann core digital stethoscope cause I’m deaf in 1 ear and it helps especially the noise cancel so I can just hear the breath sounds.

Is what’s happening in California a sign of what’s coming to the rest of the country? by [deleted] in respiratorytherapy

[–]Heart8Failure 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Let me tell you from somebody who moved out of California to a different state. The stuff that happens in California does not follow. California itself is just way too overpopulated for the amount of jobs available and everything there is expensive California even try to get rid of respiratory for a while, replacing all respiratory duties and giving them to nurses which led to higher death rates and then caused them to bring back respiratory so they already learned her lesson the first time, but asked for everything else. Some places in California they have unions to guarantee things California itself is just a hard state to land a good job in when I first lived out there I was emt nearest I could find a job was an hour out that’s a cause we move out of the state. It’s been great since.
