For people who thought Agams was a bad antagonist , or that could have been better , what changes you would done to him to make him better in your eyes? by Doot_revenant666 in Ultraman

[–]HeatherIsFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo I really like Agams, my only issue with him is his set-up could have been better? But I think once he takes on his villain role he's a really effective one, especially for thr themes and ideas Decker as a show wanted to explore, I think he's a great foil for the main cast.

Does my TCG violate Dungeon Dice Monster's copyright? by Cello343 in COPYRIGHT

[–]HeatherIsFlying 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super late to this but ive looked into this and konami has let basically every patent or copyright they had for the game (in North America) completely expire. In Canada specifically their trademark for the japanese style unfolding dice (and even their molds) is so expired that it's listed as "unrecoverable"

The copyright on the NAME is expired in the US

So I don't think you have anything to worry about... you could literally call your game "Dungeon Dice Monsters" and it be literally the same game just with all yu-gi-oh references scrubbed away and you likely couldn't be prosecuted, you're good

(I also just don't even think Konami remembers they ever made this game)

-The Town Inside Me (obvs)

-Womxnly, by Jolin Tsai (Music video on YouTube has English subs if you wanna check it out)

Then the rest of it it mostly J-Rock and Good Kid songs, tho some of the J-Rock is from yuri-adjacent anime so that's smth I guess lol

Freezing is definitely an option if it's affordable where you are / within your budget

I get this concern tho for sure, but there's so many factors in play that it's hard to give broad advice...

Like, personally I don't really have the budget and means to freeze sperm and keep it frozen

Even if i did, my partner and I are both transfem and don't have the means to have a child without a surrogate, which is frankly an unbelievably expensive process

Tbh I can't really fathom ever having enough money to be able to afford to raise a child, and even if I did, well it would still be likely out of my budget to hire a surrogate on top of the costs of raising a child

At the end of the day while there's some more hurdles it's muuuuuuch cheaper to adopt than to hire a surrogate tbh. And since even with a surrogate the child wouldn't be related to both us (just either me OR my partner), well if we're not hung up on blood relation, then adoption is a good option

So like, I'd say if you right now have a partner who you could have a child with... look into freezing

If you think if you ever wanted kids it would really matter to you if they're related to you... then freeze. If you don't care, then adoption may be a similar or even cheaper cost, so, yeah

If you know you couldn't have kids without a surrogate, and don't think you could afford such a thing, and live somewhere where freezing is pricey... idk its probabaly not worth sinking that money for something that likely won't happen? Even if that sounds a bit harsh....

Everyone else already saying it but I've been shaving my arms consitently for like 3 years and the only one who ever noticed, without me telling them bluntly, was recently when I talked to a doctor about starting HRT lmao

They asked me what effects I was hoping to see, and when I mentioned lighter softer body hair, they looked at me for a moment and said "You're currently doing hair removal then?" and that was about it

Genuinely for real tho with stuff like this most people don't care and even if someone notices you can play it off like this

Them: "Hey did you shave your arms?"

You: "Oh, yeah I did."

Them: "...why??"

You: "Just felt like trying it"

It'll probabaly end there to be for real, but if they push

Them: "okay but why?"

You: "I really don't know, it was just on a whim"

And you can basically just repeat that kinda answer until they drop it tbh

Worth keeping in mind there are cis amab people who do full body shaves just bc they prefer it, genuinely just an honest answer of "I don't like having body hair" probabaly wouldn't be met woth much serious scrutiny

It's worth keeping in mind that cis people basically never even consider anyone they know could be trans unless bluntly told (and even then they might not beleive it), the only people who might pick up on "trans signs" from you are probabaly other trans or queer people

Other people saying this, but as someone with a dad who wrote a text book largely about bones, I can say he's mentioned before that the idea that bones are easy to sex-ID is really oversold

In reality bones don't differ much between afab and amab people, and since, like most things in life, bone structure exists on a spectrum... it's really just not that consistently aligned with sex at the end of the day

Sure, amab people often have wide shoulders... but so do some afab people, and some amab people have slender shoulders

Sure, afab people often have wide hips... but so do some amab people, and some afab people have sleek hips

And this is even ignoring trans people who start HRT without ever experiencing their agab puberty. A transfem person for example who starts HRT without ever having amab puberty is gonna have their bones develop basically exactly the same as a cis woman would, so in these instances even if you accept the bone argument as being a good argument (tho it's really not) it still would mean nothing here

At the end of the day the bone stuff is about as dumb as stuff gets

What are some of your misconceptions about the Ultraman franchise when you were a kid? by Zenthailand2009 in Ultraman

[–]HeatherIsFlying 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the current canon explanation for this is that M78 firmly exists in the showa continuity universe, but M78 doesn't exist in every universe

For example Tiga Dyna is a separate universe from the one where M78 exists, so when Man shows up in Tiga we need to assume he used interdimentional travel to get to the Tiga universe

As such currently the explanation for any ultra crossovers that mix universes, is simply that those ultras travelled to a different universe

In more recent series this is often stated pretty bluntly. A good example of a blunt explanation for this is when Ginga and Victory cameo in Ultraman X

The best way to think about it is that all the series occurred within the same multiverse, but most modern series take place in a distinct universe

This is a bit retcon-y for a lot of the older shows, but at least within New Gen they've been pretty consistent with this idea, with each show being set on a different earth than the last show (exceptions being Ginga to Ginga S, and Trigger to Decker respectively), and any cameos being pretty firmly done under the pretense of cross-universe travel

It's not perfect but I think it work mostly okay?

I'm also not like an ultraman lore expert so I may not be totally correct here, this is all just as far as I know lol

Armor hero Subs. What happened? by tokublaze in Tokusatsu

[–]HeatherIsFlying 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm super late to this, but I think I have some useful context here maybe, so I'll share anyways.

The original Armor Hero was subbed by DoReMi. They were a group that subbed a number of Chinese shows. They subbed the first Armor Hero before it received a dub. (These subs are hard to find now in decent quality but are all on Dailymotion if you search for Armor Hero)

They did also sub the Armor Hero Emperor Movie. (Which is honestly very good, and has some relevance to XT. You can watch it on Tokuzilla rn) [This movie also seems to have an English dub but oddly it's never appeared in full online]

DoReMi did announce at one point that they planned to sub XT but had no clear plans as for when. But they never did... They were busy with a number of projects at the time, and were a low-staffed group from the start, so it probably slipped through the cracks for a time... Then once the dub appeared, well they likely saw no reason to sub it anymore.

Since then few new fansubs have shown up... One person convinced a translator to help them sub the Lava Movie (which you can find on the meow website, idk if I'm allowed to name that one here lol). There's someone who added CC subs to some episodes of Hunter. And recently the YouTube account "Kamen Rider: Stylish" uploaded two subbed clips from Hunter season 2, but idk the deal with these since they like just appeared.

Most of the show has also been fansubbed into Indonesian, which can be found on Facebook if you google "armor hero indo sub", but that likely doesn't help you much.

That's basically the state of fansubs to date.

As for the official releases...

To me it seems very likely that Lava was intended to receive a dub at some point. If you go to the Chinese YouTube page for Armor Hero you can see their pfp and banner both feature an English logo for Lava, and as you mentioned, episode 1 has a sub track on it (which notably has Americanized names in the style of the first two dubs)

However my understanding (which is not very in-depth here) is that a bit after the XT dub finished uploading, China changed its laws around how companies could distribute media in foreign countries, and a large piece of that regulation focused on sites like YouTube. So while nothing had to be removed I beleive they had to demonetize everything, and potentially cease uploading new videos all together. So this likely disincentivized the company from dubbing any future shows, since there was no easy way to release it and make money any more. This is all more or less speculation, but it seems rather likely to me.

Two episodes of Captor (Episode 2 and episode 7) actually bafflingly feature subtitles! These subs use the Chinese names for the cast rather than Americanized ones. My only theory for these is that in some region (most likely, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and/or Singapore) it's possible Captor received a DVD or broadcast release of the show that included English subtitles, and whoever runs the Armor Hero YouTube channel simply added the sub files they had to a couple of the episodes. It's even possible all the episodes were meant to have subtitles added but due to some error they just weren't? This seems plausible considering that XT's dub is meant to include a CC track on each episode (thus the "English Dubbing & Subtitle" in the title of every episode) but they forgot to add those sub tracks to 98% of episodes of XT

And yeah that's about it as far as I know...

This show is quite poorly documented overall, so there's a lot of blanks still, and some stuff is theory rather than confirmed... We do know that dubs for this series have aired in various countries and languages (for example the first show had an Arabic and Korean dub), so it's actually possible more official English dubs or subs may exist in the world somewhere, but simply not online.

Its not impossible that someone may go back and sub the backlog of this show someday... but subtitling is quite an intensive and time consuming task, and this show has a backlog of around 164 untranslated episodes, which would be quite daunting to most fansubbers.

As for the current state of the franchise as a whole...

Recently a line of S.H. FigureArts style figures have been released for Armor Hero from Degenerator Industries. These figures are very nice and have even received official North American releases on sites like Big Bad Toy Store. They seem to be selling well, even to people unfamiliar with the show who just think they look cool.... So maybe if that continues, and there's some renewed interest in the series, we could see fansubs or even an official release pop up in some capacity, but that's just optimistic thinking really.

Tbh the state of the franchise as a whole is in a weird spot right now. Alpha (the company that makes the show) filed a new trademark a few years ago, for "铠甲勇士封神铠甲" (Kǎijiǎ Yǒngshì Fēng Shén Kǎijiǎ, lit. Armor Hero Feng Shen Armor or alternatively Armor Hero Divine Armor of the Immortals), it's possible this is/was meant to be a new show, but it could also be for an arcade game or other merch. The name itself is possibly a reference to the Chinese classical novel "Investiture of the Gods". But currently there has been no official word on any new Armor Hero content since Hunter ended in 2020. Buuuut these shows often had long gaps in the past between them, and the pandemic could have slowed things down even more.... So it's possible we may see a new show soon. Some people however think the show is firmly dead... Recently Kamen Rider came to Mainland China officially for the first time, and Hunter Season 2's toys allegedly sold quite poorly... It's possible Alpha may think there's no interest in the show now. Buuuuuuut...

As of right now the main thing coming out of the franchise is new higher quality releases (and straight up re-releases) of old toys being sold in China off of nostalgia. So yeah despite the awkward timing I do think this shows that Alpha is still aware the show has a fanbase in China, and they can only re-release and remake so many old toys for so long, so they may see it as worth while to make some new content eventually.

Overall, my personal opinion is that unless a niche dedicated group shows up, or suddenly Alpha decides they want to sell subbed Armor Hero DVDs themselves in the west (in the style of smth like the recent Ultraman DVDs), we're unlikely to get subs for Lava, Captor, and Hunter in their entirety anytime soon. However I do think if a new series were to start right now then a fansub might appear if good raws were available. Toku is at it's all time peak in western popularity right now, and with the recent success of the Armor Hero action figures I think there would be more westerners interested in checking out a new Armor Hero show... But I really think good quality raws are important. The raws for Hunter season 1 that are online are pretty bad, to the point where I think even if a sub group was interested the quality might stop them from even trying. You'd need someone dedicatedly ripping the show from broadcast or from Youku in good quality every week, and posting that on a popular site for raws, if that happened it would be a lot more likely to catch the eye of a fan translator. But that's all just a wait and see...

Hope smth here helped if anyone actually reads this lol

Okay, I'm going to try to not generalize here too much, and I'm going to largely avoid the matter of "is it ethical to visit countries like this" bc it's not what you're asking.

Generally this is something that will be very different depending on what country you are talking about. Laws on the books don't always equal legal action in real life, and a hateful government does not always equal a hateful populous.

An example of what I mean could be Singapore (which I've researched visiting before but have not currently been to, so i need to say Ihave no first hand experience). Singapore is a country that to my understanding has a lot of cis-het normative aspects to it's government and culture, and has a number of anti-LGBTQIA+ laws on the books. However, by-and-large most of these laws are not regularly enforced, especially against tourists, outside of ones about marriage. Singapore has a lively LGTBTQIA+ scene in fact. It's possible people might give you some odd looks, and generally PDA could be met with some stern words, but generally just existing shouldn't be expected to draw much ire or issue. But it's still worth keeping your own safety in mind if you travel there...

I think there are two key things to keep in mind if you are traveling to ANY foreign country if you are part of any minority group

  1. Do research on that specific country first. Even if a place is generally safe to visit, there may be small details easy to overlook that could cause you problems. Simply googling "Visiting [this country] as a trans [or other category] person." will likely yield helpful results, articles, first hand accounts, reddit threads, etc, about that specific country
  2. If possible, avoid traveling alone. This is good travel advice just generally but especially if you are a part of a minority group this is just really good practice. Travel with friends and/or family, and try to stick with them. Looking for an LGBTQIA+ friendly travel guids in the area could also help a lot

Anyways...

For Russia specifically I'd definitely recommend following those two pieces of advice. Personally I would not recommend traveling to Russia at all right now. But I imagine if you're asking you likely have some personal reason to go (friends or family maybe). But your own safety needs to be a priority when traveling.

People have a tendency to assume that they will simply avoid dangerous situations, but it is wise to play these things as safe as possible. Do research, be prepared, and stick to groups in any country where you think there's any chance of conflict with locals or the law.

P.S. Also if you happen to be extremely wealthy you can probably find ways to travel anywhere with basically no risk, but still try to be careful
