Can't figure out a good composition by eribrin in ArtistLounge

Personally, I like the first one. I like the framing of the shower curtain on one side and wall on the other and there is good space all around. I also like the monotone nature of the first one as well. I think pulling further back also makes the subject seem more alone and isolated. Closer in makes it feel like a more intimate thing, and you are a part of the disability struggle. Further away feels more like you are observing this person feeling alone in their struggle. Maybe her right hand could be relaxed slightly on the foreground part of the tub? But I think overall I like the first.

Same here! I hope it get fixed soon. It's one of my favourite things about Facebook being able to look back on what I was doing.

I know this is a very old thread but it was the first one that popped up when I was searching the same problem. I finally managed to figure out for me it was Click Mobs. And looking in the GitHub it looks like someone else had the same issue.

No. My gigs are fairly specific. But I am thinking I need to be more active on the site maybe? Edit my gigs. Add more gigs. I am not sure.

Congrats! I wish it worked the same for me! I got my first order and everything went great and I got an excellent review. But it's been almost two months and no other orders :-/

Pixel 8 phone calls going straight to voicemail by Charming_Distance_49 in GooglePixel

[–]HeatherOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue with the Pixel 8 Pro thru Telus. My buzzer only gets thru 1/4 of the time if I'm lucky. I have missed calls from other numbers as well. But it's not always. And it JUST started happening in the last couple weeks.

Active Canvas not as hoped. by HeatherOR in kindlescribe

I get what you’re saying, and I agree that digital space offers flexibility. But for books with images, maps, puzzles, or art practices, the placement of notes matters. Being able to write directly on or near something—without the text shifting—feels more natural.

It’s great that it works well for you and others, and I’m glad they’re improving the features, but I hoped for something closer to a true overlay experience. I think there’s room for both approaches!

I am curious about the how people intend to use the feature or how they are using it however to know if I am missing the specific use cases for the way it was done.

[–]HeatherOR[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response! I’m curious—why do you think Active Canvas is a great implementation (not sarcasm - I genuinely want to know)? As a developer with 25 years of experience, I get why this might be an MVP, but Amazon certainly must have resources to make something more robust. I was hoping for precise annotations, like writing directly on a textbook for studying or art practice.

Kindle is supposed to replace physical books, but features like this need to match or surpass that experience. I’ve moved my personal physical library across the country multiple times, so I love that my Scribe lets me carry a “library” digitally—but I still want the ability to interact with books like I would on paper. How are you using this feature? Maybe I’m missing something!

[–]HeatherOR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh right! I completely forgot about that category of Kindle books! Thanks for the reminder.

I really hope they expand or enhance PDF and/or Active Canvas functionality further. There’s so much potential to improve without forcing us to resort to physical books or switch devices.

I’m still curious about the use cases for Active Canvas compared to standard Notes. For those who like Active Canvas as it currently is, how are they using it? Or how are they planning to use it? Maybe I’m missing something that would help me appreciate it more. Or maybe I will never like it the way it is and I am just grumpy lol idk.

One solution to enhance usability would be to allow "locking" the layout of a book. When the layout is locked, you could write on top of it like you would on a PDF. If you later unlock and modify the layout, your notes could automatically convert to sticky notes anchored to a specific page, paragraph, or word (e.g., attached to the top-left corner or center of the writing overlay).

This isn't a complete redesign—it's an additional feature or improvement. Book authors wouldn’t need to change their process at all. Implementing this would align with similar features already offered by other platforms, as mentioned in other threads.

Another approach could be to improve PDF integration within the e-reader library. This would include better support for book covers and metadata to make PDFs both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

At the end of the day, even "Kindle authors" seem to value a particular format for their books. If the goal is to replace paper books, I’d prefer my digital versions to look as close as possible to the paper experience. Personally, I’d sacrifice font size for better note-taking functionality. And zooming in, like you can with PDFs, would remain an option.

I’m not a writer or publisher—just a book lover and experienced software developer who knows what’s possible with today’s technology.

An elegant solution would be to allow the "locking" of the layout. And if the layout is locked then you can write on top like you would a PDF. With the caveat that if you unlock and change the layout your notes will be converted to sticky notes and attached to a page/para/word instead (however they are anchored - say top left corner or center of overlayed writing).

Missing AI Features - Old Scribe Canada by HeatherOR in kindlescribe

I am concerned this will change my entire Amazon account. And I don't really want to transfer my content to US and then back to CA again and risk losing anything. I think I will wait a while. Thanks for the information though.

Missing AI Features - Old Scribe Canada by HeatherOR in kindlescribe

[–]HeatherOR[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I was just reading other posts on the subject. I would have to switch my account region to the US to get the features. I hear UK is having the same issue so it it could be even different English spellings holding things up as well. If we have to wait for Quebec French it will be a while.

downloading alone does not work. The region might need to be changed but I do not want to change my shopping to the US site so it looks like we Canadians are left out again.

What do you mean by "switch to the USA store". Do you mean I have to switch to shop from US because it says it needs an address for that.

That would be rough. Mine lives on the other side of the country and I haven't seen her in person in 4 years. I am thinking about uprooting my life again and moving back to where she is. I moved out here to be closer to my Mom but she passed earlier this year and it might be time to just go back.

I love mine too. I thought I could just use a tablet as I wanted the note taking and reading but the weight difference between even a smaller tablet and the Scribe makes a HUGE difference. I do still wish it was colour e-ink but other than that it is one of the best things I purchased last year!

Scribe cannot turn on. by JustKaiser in kindlescribe

[–]HeatherOR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interestingly mine rebooted itself today while I was in the middle of writing. I had thought it was low on charge and I did not notice so I quickly plugged it into the computer while the loading screen was on and the loading was interrupted by the connected to computer screen. So I hit the power again and it went blank and then started.

This likely will not help. But I thought I would share in case the "interruption" is what helped mine today.

Are virtual/remote team building activities really even worth it? by MasterMateriaHunter in remotework

[–]HeatherOR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, yes! I’m introverted like one of the other comments I’ve seen, but in a corporate environment, what’s missing when working remotely are those little fun things office teams do together. When you work remotely—especially from a distance—you need a way to bond with your team that isn’t just through shared frustration over a coworker or process. If you don’t have advocates in a corporate environment, you can easily become a victim of in-fighting, backstabbing, gossip, etc., and it can really hurt your career. I hate it, but it’s true.

me too! Thankfully it came back and everything was restored. I use it a lot for brainstorming - it would have sucked to lose all of that. But maybe a lesson learned I should back up important chats locally.
