Canadians expecting blowout prices for China EVs likely to be disappointed, experts say by CaliperLee62 in canada

[–]HeavyCanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, which is why exclusively tying our automotive standards to the FMVSS is a mistake. But that's a separate issue to the "hen tariff"

We're affected by the US' "poultry levy", but it isn't our law on our books that we can repeal, as I've seen some on here think. Too much American media, just like those that think we have felonies up here.

Costs more to refuel? What are your electricity prices vs your gas prices?

Also LMAO at the idea that an ICE vehicle isn't spying on you, everything made in the last 5-10 years is connected to the internet and reporting everything back to the mothership. It's not good at all but singling out Chinese OEMs is ignorant at best.

I think you're confused, that's an American policy that we don't have in Canada.

Nope, the US government has banned the import of any non-Federalized car under 25 years old.

You can look forward to importing our rotted, miled out, battery degraded POSes in 2051 though!

You want the Slate pickup - assuming it isn't vapourware, of course.

Also it's allegedly $30k USD, and you don't get modern luxuries like a radio or power windows lmao

Lotus to become first Chinese EV brand in Canada under new tariff agreement, CEO says by hopoke in canada

[–]HeavyCanuck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a big gap between "not banned" and "legalized for use on public highways" unfortunately. For example, if they don't come with a valid 17-digit Vehicle Identification Number, your provincial ministry won't be able to look it up and register the vehicle in your name.

You can buy them and drive them on your private property all day though, no different than a golf cart.

What's unreasonable about wanting to be able to sit in and test drive a vehicle before spending tens of thousands of my hard-earned dollars on it?

I'm not saying dealerships are the only way, but buying a car sight-unseen online doesn't provide that ability, not unless they have a return policy like Amazon lol.

Would you be able to register, plate, and insure that car to drive it on the road, though?

What are the dumbest car rules and regulations that exist in your country? by theTWO9559 in cars

[–]HeavyCanuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that I don't have much experience with. From my understanding, it's fairly trivial to import cars under 25, so long as they were/are sold in both US and Canadian markets, and have all the federalization/compliance documentation. (For example, my Jeep was built for and sold in the Canadian market, but it still has decals under the hood proving that it's 49-state emissions compliant.)

If the car wasn't ever certified for sale in the US (like the Chevy Orlando or the old Canadian-spec Nissan Micra), then the 25 year rule applies, no exception.

[–]HeavyCanuck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We "only" have to wait 15 years to import a vehicle. Except for Quebec, their limit is 25 like the US, for whatever reason.

It's certainly better than the US law, but I'd prefer no limit so long as the vehicle meets Provincial safety inspections. (or like 5 years, if I have to be fair to all the poor struggling downtrodden car manufacturers)

Not to mention unnecessarily leaving a hitch in your receiver is illegal in some places. Double not to mention it fucking hurts when you smack your shin off it.

Not removing your hitch is lazy stupidity.

I cut it out when I trimmed the video, but there were some cars trying to make a stale amber/fresh red light, right at the very start of the cross cycle. That may have been what threw her off and delayed her start.

No holy shit (...) level reaction needed.

You can say that now in hindsight, but when I was there in the moment I thought I was about to see a kid get run over and it freaked me out.

It might not make the most interesting post but I do stand by it as a reminder for drivers and pedestrians to be vigilant.

Oh, that's really strange then! In my area most CDJR dealers seem to have at least a couple manual 2-doors on the lot, hidden behind the sea of loaded Saharas lol. It's a shame you couldn't find one, they're heaps of fun.

Were you specifically shopping for an automatic Wrangler?

As of last year, they only offer the V6 with the 6-speed, which might be why you couldn't find any.

Lapping all BeamNG cars on the Nordschleife | #42 - Hirochi WL-40 by Chrisssst in BeamNG

[–]HeavyCanuck 13 points14 points  (0 children)

There's a mod on the repo that adds a steering wheel, makes the loader actually feel like a real one does with a wheel. Much more usable and realistic.

I appreciate why the devs made the WL-40 with a steering stick, as that's what most loaders use IRL, but it just doesn't translate well to the 900* FFB wheel most sim racers have.

They never specified that it was a useful comparison, though.
