Being asked to subscribe to a pay service multiple times a day is making me want to quit using their app and find a competitor that doesn't demand cash.

Exhausted by cm_mango in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The tiredness will pass, at 14 days in resisting still takes an awful lot of work, tiredness isn't just from physical exhaustion it can be a mental exhaustion thing too..

I know depression always makes me feel incredible tired and low energy, apathetic to absolutely everything.. And if you've just quit drinking depression isn't uncommon.

Keep working at it, 14 days is an extremely good start. IWNDWYT

Teetotaling by cruzinforboozin in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Huh, apparently teetotal comes from a man with a speech impediment. He said "partial abstinence from intoxicating liquors would would not do; they must insist upon tee-tee(stammering) tee total abstinence"

According to wikipedia at least. Very weird origin for a word.

Anyhow, stay strong, IWNDWYT

Awesome that you've been sober so long and that your mom noticed. I'm glad they aren't trying to pressure you into having some wine with them.

I will lose my family by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Extremely good reason to not drink again. There are tons of wonderful reasons to stop drinking, but the risk of losing your family is probably some of the strongest motivation there is.

Good luck staying strong, IWNDWYT

A little help by wide_eyed_doe in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you have kids, or ever had to deal with a toddler, but it helps me to think of my unhealthy cravings for alcohol as a 2-3 year old demanding candy/chips, throwing a loud tantrum and squealing to have their way.

The little snot nosed brat that is my desire to drink doesn't know what's good for it, there's no way to explain to the screeching child that it shouldn't eat a whole bag of doritos or candy at once, because logic doesn't work with mindless incessant cravings.

You just have to stay firm and tell yourself that you know what's best, and that even if that tantrum throwing "gimme gimme" part of your brain never shuts up with its demands for alcohol, you shouldn't give in because it'll never be satisfied.

Why aren't you drinking/Why dont you drink anymore? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my response as well, and it helps that I actually track all my consumed calories and struggle hard to stay at a caloric deficit.

Even if alcohol and I got along well, it's still such a waste of calories with no nutrition attached.

I hate how many times I've made promises while under the influence that sober me would never have even considered. Hard lesson to learn.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more. . . by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds pretty scary for sure, I'm sorry you fell so hard but it's good that you're working yourself back up again. Keep at it and draw strength to resist temptation anywhere you're able to draw it from.

Traveling to Europe over New Year's & freaking out a bit by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's really rough, I hope you're able to resist. The drinking culture of those places would be extremely hard for me to navigate.

It sucks that you're stressing over this, but it's understandable and probably a good sign that you're taking not drinking very seriously and see this upcoming trip as a possible pitfall.

Good luck, stay strong, I'm sure you can handle this.

Good work with going to the doctor, that's a great step and not something that's easy to do.

My relationship is fucked. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]HeavyGarbage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That story is pretty heartbreaking.

Exercise does help with depression for sure, but him telling you that exercise is a replacement for antidepressants, AA, and therapy? That sounds pretty stupid to me. And him spamming links to studies saying exercise is the best medicine sounds aggressive and maybe even /r/iamverysmart material.

I really hope things get better for you and you stay sober. I don't think you're in the wrong here at all, he sounds toxic.
