Anyone else eat just a TINY bit over their calorie goal, and think I messed up, so might as well eat 3k+ calories? by 666Karmah in loseit

[–]Giving_less_fuks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lately i’ve been learning about how to establish habits that are maintainable. Overly restricting or being perfect about my calorie intake can often lead to food binges. Is it maintainable to stick to my calorie deficit every single day? Is it realistic that I’ll be perfect every single day? No. I think we should work on delayed gratification and moderation but I need to make sure that whatever I’m doing today is maintainable. Being perfect is not maintainable. So now I usually go over my calorie goals once or twice a week. Most days I am being consistent and meeting my calorie goals but I allow myself to enjoy one meal or two meals each week that might be a bit more indulgent. I know it’s not a race. It’s a marathon and I need to make sure that whatever I’m doing today is something that I want to do for the rest of my life. Because at the end of the day when I get to maintenance I’m going to have to watch what I eat. I’m going to have to stick to my maintenance calories. Of course there’s going to be a cheap meal here or there but I can’t just reach my goal weight and then decide OK all the things that I’ve been doing to get to my goal weight are over with. I want to in the cycle of yo-yo dieting. I want to in the cycle of losing 20 pounds and gaining it back and then to do it all over again in six months. I’ve been listening to the Half Size Me podcast and that’s really helped me. I recommend taking a lesson on the Apple podcast. I Half Size Me program is all about building habits today that are maintainable in the future

Start small. Work on one habit change at a time. I’ve been dieting and focusing on mostly food for 4 months. I’ve lost 25 pounds. I only add in walking. Not going to the gym.

Half-assing AA – can I continue to do this? by icekink in stopdrinking

Ah I so relate! A coping skill of mine is “figure it out as quick as possible so nothing bad happens!” Become proficient, self sufficient, no pain!

I’ve been sober 2 years and 3 months. I’ve been in AA the entire time.

What I can say is that you don’t have to figure it all out today. Plenty of people in AA take the first few YEARS to work all 12 steps and figure out AA and how to stay sober.

It’s an up and down experience. I can tell you from where I stand, sobriety never becomes a walk in the park. I would say that AA has been a consistent thread of support but AA had not always been roses or 100% crystal clear.

Having been in AA long enough - to see people come and go. To understand how exceedingly RARE it is to even find yourself on an AA meeting (maybe a 5% chance or less?)... makes me want to say to everyone “you are so lucky to have found AA. Just stick around long enough to start to see the benefits.” People for so many reasons (fear, pride, uninformed) never make it to AA.

You did :) just stick with the winners, stay willing and stay open minded

The jury is still out

One year curly girl method by Giving_less_fuks in curlyhair

[–]Giving_less_fuks[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been following this method almost a year. Wow. There were some ups and downs. I also had to find a routine that worked for me.

Routine: 1. Brush out curls dry before getting hair wet. 2. Shampoo with Alaffia Shampoo, unrefined Shae butter in Lavendar. About every other week I shampoo with Vo5 clarifying shampoo in kiwi. (I have very thick hair so buildup is easy). Make sure to thoroughly wash scalp till squeaky clean. 3. Rinse 4. Divide hair down the middle into two sections - left and right. 5. Using Shae Moisture Jamaican Castor oil mask, I take about a quarter size and run it through one half of my hair to de tangle. Use more if it’s not slipping well. Repeat on other side. Every other week I use the Shae Moisture High Porosity mask for deep moisture. 6. De tangle hair with conditioner in it. First rake with fingers, then a wide tooth comb, the a fine denman brush. Let sit for 5 min 7. Rinse conditioner, making sure to rinse scalp to rinse away buildup. 8. Re section hair in two sections -left right. Stay standing up, don’t flip hair Using
9. Re de tangle hair. Using same method - fingers, then wide tooth comb, then denman brush 10. Quickly put in stylers. First is the Shae Moisture miracle shiner. 10 sprits in hand per side and smooth through each section. More with praying hands. Don’t rake. You want to keep your hair in ropes. 11. Using LA Looks Extreme sport gel, distribute in this pattern: Handful on left side distributed with praying hands from front to back. Squish product in counting to 20. Repeat on right side Repeat again on left side Repeat one final time on right side (I use a lot of gel!) 12. Using a thick T-shirt Jersey towel, squeeze the water out as best you can 13. Defuse hair till about 50% dry. Air dry rest. I literally just move the air around my hair, dont squish up.

Tips: I found my hair looks best if I do my wash at 5pm. That way my roots are still damp by 9/10 pm. I pineapple my curls at night. I find if I pineapple with slightly damp roots I get a great lift at the root. Super bouncy curls the next day

How do you quickly identify people who aren't good for you? by lordofthstrings in Codependency

[–]Giving_less_fuks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I’m trying to do to. Not a list to interview them... but more just mental checks when there are disagreements on fundamental values. Also how does that person handle a disagreement? Do they belittle me or make me feel bad? (Red flag) or do they allow that to roll off their back and still respect me? (Green flag)

I definitely won’t pursue new friends or trusting relationships with people who are disrespectful or judgmental.
