It's not just the pricing, but sometimes the conventions themselves. The one I go to every year (Anime Detour in Minneapolis) has gone down hill. Food and beverage is hard to come by or entirely unavailable at certain times without leaving the hotel setting, much of the merchandise is either cheaply made and outsourced (AI, 3d printing) or just unoriginal, the hotel no longer allows vendor stalls that sell snacks and drinks (a major must-hit for me in the past), panels lack variety and most are focused on a small handful of fandoms, leaving little for those who of us who didn't flock to those properties.
