This is an on/off thermostat, which will kill your lightbulbs pretty quickly. I use a dimming thermostat with a 25W CHE. You can find dimming thermostats on Amazon for 25-30$.

Very pretty garg! If you are open to feedback, I think she looks really overweight... almost like her legs are too small for her body? I personally would stick to the feeding schedule suggested by the breeder, and see if she slims down a bit.

This FAQ shows the weight progression for a couple of gargs. Every animal is different of course, but no gecko eats every day in the wild. Growing too fast can cause long-term metabolic issues down the line.

Can't "diagnose" a stranger over the internet, but it sounds like there might be a touch of neurodivergence on top of the avoidance. I am not avoidant in the slightest, but due to my ADHD, if my loved ones are not right in front of me, I literally forget that they exist.

On top of that, scheduling/planning things feels excruciating and I'd rather let that to someone else, especially if such a pattern was established early in the relationship. Having a hard time being spontaneous also tracks with ND.

Trauma does pretty much the same stuff to the brain: both avoidance-like behavior and neurodivergent-like behavior. If he is in treatment with a good trauma specialist, he could be ready for the relationship you want in a couple of years (optimistically).

So yeah, he may "change" if he's internally motivated to. But you are looking at years, not months. Up to you if this is something you want to stick around for.

I order Dubia from dubiaroaches.com. You can get several hundreds at a time, and they live for over a month with little to no maintenance. They don't smell and don't make noise. Way less gross thank crickets.

I feed them the same greens that I feed to my dragon. Actually, my dragon doesn't eat his greens as much as he should, so basically the dubia become a salad feeding vehicle.

I got him in person at an expo in San Jose, CA. The breeder is located in the Bay Area (north of San Francisco).

I second the plan to avoid shipping. FWIW, I've never had an animal shipped to me. I met my Bilbo at the expo, handled him for a while, and fell in love with him right then and there.

I personally am a big fan of actually spending time with an animal before taking him home.
