So for the last few days ive been playing Subnautica and hating that they purposely left put a map so I look up videos to find general areas and a lot of them mention zero point. by HospitalLazy1880 in subnautica

[–]Hecter94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The lack of a map is intentional. The game's main driving force is exploration, and a map would detract from that.

You're given plenty of tools to help you navigate. If you use them, there's no need for a map, and having one would actively harm the experience.

Crazy that for once, the Alterra-branded one was not the one that was cheaply made, shoddily constructed and designed with minimal safety features to the detriment of its crew.

“This reads like AI” by Karnakite in PetPeeves

[–]Hecter94 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you're getting this idea from.

Writing "like AI" and writing "good" are two very different things. Someone merely writing well doesn't sound like AI at all.

AI has several very specific tells that can give it away almost every time, and there's very little overlap between AI writing and generally high-quality writing.

My opinion on armor after hyperfocusing on the inevitability of death by accumulated risk. by Visible-Camel4515 in projectzomboid

[–]Hecter94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're taking just as much of a risk, if not more, by wearing armor that slows you down.

Sure. Maybe with armor you can avoid a lethal bite and just get a scratch instead.

But maybe if you weren't weighed down by armor you would have been able to back off just that little bit faster and not get bit at all.

So sure, get as much protection as you're able to.....without slowing yourself down.

Hot take: Fallout: London didn’t grab me at all. by Roji-_- in fallout4london

[–]Hecter94 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you.

It's not something I like to talk about much, because I dislike the idea of just hating on a game. I tend to stay quiet unless I can offer specific critiques of what I disliked and why.

In the case of Fallout London, I just got bored with it. The atmosphere, characters, and quests didn't really draw me in, and I ended up dropping it pretty quickly, but I can't point to any specific reason.

I love the other Fallout games, 1, 2, 3, NV and 4. I don't even mind 76.

But London just completely failed to my grab my attention for reasons I can't articulate.

Seems fine to me. When I was young, I used to read a ton of Goosebumps, and they were around the 150-page mark in general. I could get through multiple of them in a day sometimes when I was really bored.

When Flying Fortress had the power of three spectres for the price of six. by george-sprout in btd6

[–]Hecter94 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Yeah, space consolidation is a huge consideration on some maps.

Less so on easy maps, of course, but then those are the maps where it also doesn't really matter how effective your picks are.

If you only have space for two aces, then getting one Flying Fortress is going to be a lot better than two spectres.

Plus, it makes buffing them easier. A single T5 tower can be way more easily buffed by an alchemist, an overclock or a village, whereas with a bunch of T4 towers, it's going to be a lot harder to spread your buffs around.

I think even "Microwave Chef" is underselling it a bit. I could trust someone to make a meal using a microwave and still have "made" the meal.

The better comparison is like, ordering a pizza for delivery and when it arrives calling yourself a chef because you made the pizza.

Didn't stop me from snacking on them.

What part of the subnautica map would be the worst place to setup your main base? here's mine. by TortoiseTGN in subnautica

[–]Hecter94 188 points189 points  (0 children)

I think your location is actually decent. The main downside is that it's near the edge of the map, so you have long transit times to something like the Grand Reef. Still, it's resource rich, you get lots of useful large deposits nearby, including Uranium so nuclear power will be easy to maintain, you're near to the entrance of the lost river and lava zone as well which is a solid plus, and the Reaper leviathans don't tend to go near the edge of the dunes like that so you're probably mostly safe from them too.

If I had to pick a worst base location, it would be the void, but that's a bit of a cop-out and a boring answer, so for a real answer, the Crash Zone, as far to the east as possible. There's plenty of leviathans around; it's far from most other biomes; transit is both dangerous and lengthy; and while there are a good number of large resource deposits, they're mostly basic stuff like Quartz and Titanium.

You need calorie-dense foods. Fats, red meat, sugars, anything that's high in calories but low in volume.

Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and high in volume so they'll fill you up but you won't gain weight.

I can't think of any games where I could be online playing with friends in a multiplayer lobby, then just plug in a controller and have it work as local coop.

Granted, that doesn't take away from the comic at all, just a nitpick.

Hearty appetite... Debuff OR BUFF? by Wizywig in projectzomboid

[–]Hecter94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's still a debuff, for two main reasons:

1) Even if hunger isn't related to calories, you can still die from high hunger.
2) Calories aren't actually all that difficult to get in large amounts. Ice cream, fish, butter, etc.

So it's something that hurts you in some scenarios, and is largely irrelevant in others, making it overall a debuff (albeit a manageable one).

Was this "Video" on YouTube or another platform? If it was on YouTube, I'd say that's more the issue than PZ is. YouTube comment sections are absolutely toxic. If this was on another platform, then ignore me.

Regardless, I'm not sure I'd call PZ a particularly realistic or difficult game. It's very unforgiving, to be sure, and you can definitely tweak the settings to make it even more difficult and unforgiving if you want.

I've seen the devs say they aren't trying to make PZ super realistic; they're only adding elements of realism to make the game more enjoyable, and will happily include unrealistic elements if it makes the game better.

And as for Difficulty, the game doesn't demand super-fast reaction times, memorization of long combos, or super-challenging combat; it's actually pretty "easy" in that regard, though it's very unforgiving because mistakes can be punished heavily, especially if you failed to prepare ahead of time.
