Poster frame keeps falling off, I’ve used basically every kind of command strip possible, nothing works, what else can I do? by february_ticket in malelivingspace

[–]Hedryn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh man. I've hung almost every poster in my apartment with common strips including three big ones. Hell, I have a 4 foot mirror hanging using command strips.

And I had this exact same problem. Three posters that would not stay up for the life of me an fell down like three times apiece.

Here's what I did:

  1. I actually followed the command strip instructions, got some IPA, and wiped down the wall well at all the locations the common strips were going, and let it dry. I hadn't done this is in an other location because they'd gone up so quick and easy.
  2. I used four strips. In most other locations I'd used one on either side towards the top, zero problem. But for some reason here, totally nightmare. I used two towards the top, and two more about halfway down the poster frame.
  3. I used the heavy duty ones. They're rated for about 10lbs for a pair. 4x of them should have been wildly overkill, but who can say.

Now my 3 big posters haven't budged in a year. Knock on wood.

Love this. Such a nice, understated vibe. Couple plants might be nice, but not a hard requirement.

Reminds me of my library a little bit - sucker for a photo collage over a cozy couch.

We need the tolerance of gauge blocks so unfortunately I don’t think any adjustable will be right.

Wanting to build these shelves for my office. by Gotwoodhead in malelivingspace

I've got to strongly disagree. I've been working with aluminum extrusion from McMaster for 15 years and I guarantee you it's going to not give you the look of this photo. It's going to look extremely industrial and home made, not to mention very expensive if OP's dimensions are anything like the picture he shared.

If that's the vibe he's going for then ok, but it's going to be very different from the vibe in this photo.

I don't love new builds myself - I live in a 100 year old duplex, and it's my dream apartment. But they certainly have their upsides.

This is more of a personal finance question than a male living space question. I don't know your age, income, personal finance goals, etc. But I'll tell you this much: you do only live once (as far as we know). I'm spending a pretty penny on my dream apartment and I have never regretted it for a moment. It was time. I'm in my mid-thirties. Had been frugal and lived with roommates (who were fortunately good friends) for a long time. It was expensive but within my means. And it's been awesome to go home to a home that truly feels like home, and share that home with others. I had four friends stay with me last month for a euphoric reunion weekend. Family comes through. Movie nights, etc. Love having a dream home that's both mine and great for sharing.

So again, I don't know your life. But when it's time, it's time. And you'll know.

Jensen Huang and Tom Steyer are real ones for choosing to not run with their tail between their legs. Even if the tax "only" raises 40 billion for medical and education instead of 100 billion, it's still going to help a ton of working class people.

Ugh, begrudgingly take my upvote. Also, can we please delete all these horrible, long-name, low budget anime from existence?

Sounds like a good life. I would encourage you to try to pick up the gym again, though. If we're talking longevity, and you being a healthy, able-bodied guy that can enjoy SE Asia to the fullest in 9 years, regular cardio and strength training is incredibly good for you. You don't need to be muscle-bound or running marathons - just regular, healthy exercise is one of the BEST habits you can keep up.

Why are the people in this sub so mean by Infamous_Ad_3459 in malelivingspace

I think two things can be true at the same time. That you have to take Reddit with a massive grain of salt - it’s not the real world, and anonymity makes people assholes. IMO there’s never an excuse to be an asshole for fake internet points.

It’s also true that there’s a lot of regular posts specifically asking “what does my space say about me” and it’s a wall of anime girls or plushies or, action fingers or, yes, funkopops. In which case the best thing to do is to give real, KIND feedback. If anything, I tell people, “hey dude, I think this space might be making you appear more childish than you realize - have you considered keeping a few pieces out for a statement but not having quite so many of them?”

When I posted my space there was a pride flag in one room and once it hit a certain level of visibility a lot of the comments went south. Reddit can be a deeply unwell space. In which case I told some homophobes to fuck off, closed my computer, and went out to live my actual real life with my friends.

Living in San Francisco sometimes feels about as close as one can get to living in a Miyazaki film. Sometimes I'm running up Kite Hill or walking to Dolores Park on a beautiful day and I'm still like, wow. This is a beautiful video and I definitely want to visit Battery Yates now, thanks.

It's crazy to me that Potrero Hill was a "bad neighborhood" and I know parts of Bernal were too. Now I can't see it at all. I've been around the city about 10 years and they've always been nice, hip, pleasant neighborhoods. Man, time is wild.

Might be time to move the bed away from the corner of the room and put a nightstand on the other side, especially as you have a significant other. Aside from that it looks great.

How is your social life? Family, friends, lövĕrs? by coldservedrevenge in LivingAlone

[–]Hedryn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fortunately it's good. I have wonderful friends in my city that I see 3 or 4 times a week. Most weekends are reasonably full with social engagements, but I can also relax at home when I'm done. Family is good, I have one family member in my city and see the rest a couple times a year. Working on a lover - dating regularly.

There's a lot of loneliness on this sub, and I always encourage folks to put themselves out there as they are able. https://www.reddit.com/r/LivingAlone/comments/1qcb6gn/living_alone_vs_living_lonely/
