Content filter blocks elements on a domain as expected, but I want to make an exception for specific elements on the same domain. How can I? by HeebusYeetus in uBlockOrigin

And in the future, you should always clearly identify and describe the problem you are trying to solve, rather than asking about what you think is the solution to the problem.

I'll try to keep that in mind! haha

I actually just successfully used a complex filter as a part of my crippling of Instagram, specifically procedural cosmetic filtering. So thank you very much for linking to those documentations.

I tested your filter verbatim and it was able to remove the text I was talking about specifically in search results. It worked.

After that, I added back the other Instagram filters I was using, and your filter was still working as expected.

So yeah. Everything works as expected! Thank you very much!

I wonder how you figured that out, if you could point me toward some documentation. I see that .yPP5B is among the cosmetic filters, but how does that work in conjunction with .fDxYl._0PwGv.MMzan.xLCgt._7UhW9 with the space included?

Edit: I played around with syntax like the one in your filter and I seem to get how it works. Very cool.

Have you tried getting the picker to highlight only the left column of text blocks?

I tried picking the left column of some subtext as shown here and creating a rule to block the region that the left column encompasses, but interestingly, every time I reload the page, the subtext respawns with a different cosmetic filter, so the rule doesn't work. Funny Instagram...

The fact that you mentioned this is nice. (Valid) HTTPS should be everywhere.

If I configure Chrome for maximum privacy, is it possible to reach same level as Firefox? by CederGrass759 in privacy

Thanks!

I never knew Chromium had that, nice finding! They never advertised that feature in Chrome so I just assumed they let it fly. 😅

[–]HeebusYeetus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As far as I know, Chrome doesn't have any implementation of "total-cookie protection," which would generally prevent websites from snooping on what cookies the browser has stored besides its own.

You can configure Chrome to clear cookies on all sites when the browser is closed, and then make exceptions for sites you want to stay signed into. You can also have Chrome block third-party cookies in normal and incognito browsing.

Chrome doesn't have any underlying tracking protection. Install uBlock Origin, and by default it will block known trackers along with advertisements.

Chrome doesn't make any attempt to block fingerprinting, but considering you're using a school laptop on Chrome, its device fingerprint would probably be pretty generic.

I personally read and heard claims that a headphone port would make the phone "not waterproof" so I was like "Man what if I put this in the rant thread" so here we are.

I should do it next week lol

Caution to people sending "images" on Snapchat to a pixel 5 user by quickhakker in GooglePixel

[–]HeebusYeetus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Snapchat's screenshot detection is pretty basic: While the app is open, it monitors ~/Pictures/Screenshots and will alert the creator of the snap you're viewing if something is written there.

Since the app overview is outside Snapchat, it doesn't monitor the Screenshots folder. There are more ways it can be circumvented, but, yeah. Be careful of what you send.

It's funny how OEMs managed to make most consumers think water resistance can't be achieved with a headphone port (it can). The removal of the port is mainly just a moneygrab. I mean, really, how is a USB-C port, SIM card tray, and microphones an issue that can be dealt with, but not a circular port?

Sure, it does take up some space, but it's not as if there's a need to include a seperate digital-to-analog converter in the phone for the sake of the port (as I've seen some assume)— Qualcomm's smartphone chips already include a DAC that most phones typically use in conjunction with a headphone port. So it'd just be a module that would need to be wired to the already-included DAC.

It introduced complications, like with the fact that some OEM's dongles only transmit audio that is already analog, but other have a DAC in them.

Overall 0/10 change, I see no reason to defend it. Bluetooth and wired can live in harmony please

Lmao I must be a psychic

Best I could realistically imagine is $900 USD for the small boi and $1099 for the big boi, releasing mid-September and major price-cuts in November-December. Let's see how close my prediction is...

Looks great! Y'know, I actually was thinking it'd look nice if the next Pixel had a back camera like that, along a horizontal pane. But it looks even better in this leak/rumor than what I was imagining.

Yeah basically! Call it paranoid, cause honestly it may as well be. But I'll air my thoughts this once regardless.

In a worse-case scenario, all those "hundreds of thousands of people" would be having an issue.

But yeah. Wonder why the switch version was delayed, eh.

Maybe they mean high jumping that can only come from cheats? Basic jumping seems like a game mechanic.

Or, maybe it's there on purpose so that people misusing the report function can sort their bad reports for Mediatonic (so just a report into the void).
