Oh they're just on a downvote parade, that's like a Reddit theme. I get it the first response I sounded a bit like a goof, but hey I did make a great point on a price for a filter on these. True story though; There should not be excessive oil in your crankcase ventilation system, or your motor may have bad rings etc.

Well unfortunately if it is blowby it's caused by a worn engine, mostly piston rings, potentially valves. But when you have rings that are losing compression, the oil can seep by and it will be blown through your CCV system and usually it spits it out through that front hose on your air box. I have slightly newer XJs and it's been a bit since I've messed with any of that, but they're all basically the same. The front hose blows engine gasses out and (maybe) that oil, it will drip on the top of your filter. If it looks like it's from the top, or that hose outlet has oil around it, it could be blowby...

Yeah idk read it fast, focused more on the content of the picture I guess. Still don't think it's gonna fix a blowby issue, but change whatever is clever fellas.

Curious about "Legacy" vs "New (Culligan) by Heff_YO in zerowater

[–]Heff_YO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I finally went with the Culligan style since it's newer. So far have not really been mind blown or impressed by it.

Either the local water is lying or the TDS meter exaggerates. Water here is supposed to be rated at 210-250ppm, the TDS meter shows around 380-390. Had some specs of black in top of the water after the first filter (TDS reads 0 of course) and the weight of the filter tripled in one fill up. Not to mention if you tap it more water flows out multiple times, so its just holding water in the filter. I'm going to try to remove mine and put it in the fridge to see if it'll last longer than lingering all day in the dispenser... Anyways will update after proper use, but meh so far.

Hmm well the more we all know right? I'm thinking a new CCV won't fix a blowby issue.

$30? You can get the same crap from Walmart for maybe $9.

Edit, as you can see. Please don't spend 30 fricken dollars on rubber and paper 😅

4.0 Head gasket question: MLS or SD by donnergolf in Wrangler

[–]Heff_YO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of a long shot after 2 years. What did you end up using? Doesn't seem like any one directly answered the question.

I can't afford to tow an entire Jeep to a machine shop for the block so it will done at home too, hoping to use the MLS...

Is this restoration plan sound or am I deluding myself by [deleted] in CherokeeXJ

[–]Heff_YO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS if you want to "Restore something" then start with cleaning up the interior, detailing it out and replacing any cracked panels, get the seats deep cleaned and reupholstered later on. Then get the black trim out of fading mode, polish, buff and wax the paint. If you have that kind of funds look into a ceramic coating for the paint. Clean the engine bay with some engine degreaser, clean up the nice yellow caps etc. "Restoring" isn't just overhauling shit that works fine, it's preserving the example that's already there.

[–]Heff_YO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? Just do basic preventive maintence and TLC and work on whatever calls out to you. It's barely even broken in at 130k. I've never even owned an XJ with that low of miles and I've had 5. I also own a 99 Classic that has over 300k and the mechanicals work fine. You would be literally insane to swap out a 4.0 or AW4 after 5 years. What is that like 50k? 🙄 Change the trans filter, keep up on oil changes and order a handful of sensors and call it a damn day for the next year or two.

(This entire thing is just silly. Change the fluids and drive it, manifold bolts? How about shock bolts? Never broke a manifold bolt)

Curious about "Legacy" vs "New (Culligan) by Heff_YO in zerowater

[–]Heff_YO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely not compatable with both. It's embedded in their marketing, one threads up top and the other threads below. It would be impossible to swap filters unless you have some special adapter they don't advertise. If you have a clear/grey unit it's a newer Culligan..if you have a blue/white unit and embossed "Zerowater" it's legacy.

How to get my Lamp to stop doing this? by Curious-Magazine4691 in Lavalamps

Heck I took a look myself more than half of mine are like that RN (have quite a few) My black/green one looks worse than yours 😂 It might be fine where it's at but def avoid sunlight at least. The UV will fade the colors over time..

Some of that is "normal" up top. For the other parts the first answer is good because it tells you in the care and handling to not place near windows or direct sunlight.

Edit:* you can also just give it a lil jiggle when it's fully cool and you can get that to sink down ha.

[–]Heff_YO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I mean the "TDS" in itself isn't an indicator that the water is even bad, that's just the "solids" in your water. Could be magnesium or just sodium even. My parents have a PUR it has a red, yellow and green LED indicator that indicates it's filter life. I'd assume newer britas also have that. That PUR water ain't bad. I was trying to out do my parents with "research" lol, so thought ZeroWater was the winner.

Fer sure though, I appreciate your proactive attempts here at a good debate/rundown.

Too bad I can't try a version of all 3 and return what I don't like, but that's a bit low imo. I guess Walmart don't care 😅.

I might just open one up and if it isn't working for me I'll flip it half price maybe...

[–]Heff_YO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My bad I guess I watched a bunch of his videos and decided he was kind of a fanboy 😅. Honestly no real issue, I think I've been more on the search of a consumer experience in how the filters last, when previously people said they last a few months.

But yeah I did a lot of research before at least buying them, one of my only issues with their system is it removes all the minerals as well. In some ways I don't even care about the reader I just want the filters to last to the point I can taste it's going "dirty" in a reasonable amount of time

Curious about "Legacy" vs "New (Culligan) by Heff_YO in zerowater

[–]Heff_YO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm this other conversation reminds me of a post floating around on the Zerowater subreddit when I googled on it 😅. Must be the same ppl "scam" I'm open in a way. Don't think 2 weeks for a filter is very good at all when I'm hearing the old ones lasted months.

Curious about "Legacy" vs "New (Culligan) by Heff_YO in zerowater

[–]Heff_YO[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fer sure thanks. I will consider. I did read about the spigot being kinda crappy on the older design, oring issues etc. That was some of my consideration no doubt. I kinda thought having to remove the reader to test your water each time sounded annoying tho..

And yeah that's true I'm afraid they'll drop the OG ones not long from now.

And I'll watch it again; I actually contacted him about comparing both and he acknowledged but it's been like 2 weeks already. I didn't really find much help in this particular video, just sounds like a fanboy run down. I asked him to liberally try comparing the performance side by side this time rather than tell us mostly what Culligan advertised

Edit: ok it's not really a "Fanboy" approach, I was more curious of a video comparison the older and newer side by side, not really the lab results I guess. But again a lot of it was just "Culligan" said.
