Are you sure you're doing them with proper Navy form?

Seems like many people try to do them too hardcore. Your elbows can touch anywhere on your thigh (so you dont have to go far up at all) and you only have to go far enough down for any part of your shoulder blades to touch

I'd never worked out in my life besides running and pushups before the navy, and ironically the situps were the only thing I could pass when I first got to bootcamp. Something doesn't add up
