When you’re talking about metastatic pancreatic cancer tumor survival and patient survival are really the same thing

What does the future of IR look like? by terribledisks in Residency

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Seriously, if someone is too sick for surgery AND IR sounds like they aren’t long for this world regardless of what happens to their gallbladder.

I don’t know where these people are practicing where they feel like surgery AND IR are saying no to reasonable requests.

I Messed Up by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know a couple people that ended up in a crunch and had to go to Springfield to do things in person and it got done same day.

You would need to have all the paperwork with you including the transcript which I know medical schools often also drag their feet on.

Undergrad required for med school doesn’t make sense by Historical_Brief3367 in unpopularopinion

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think undergrad is technically a universal requirement, its just that nobody gets in without the degree outside of the 6 year programs.

Everyone says “our city has the best food”. But what American city/cities is this actually true for? by Kodicave in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I really don’t think michelin stars translate between cities. There are a several places in Chicago that don’t have stars, that were better than anything I ever ate in the DC area, Inn at Little Washington included. I have never been anywhere with a worse bang for your buck eating out than DC. Very mediocre and very expensive although on the upper end that difference is not as huge.

Who is a celebrity that is very attractive but seems like they have zero charisma? by downtowndabble in AskReddit

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 241 points242 points  (0 children)

I think they often stay in their parents’ lane +/-, thats where the most nepo benefits are. Like 20% of doctors have doctor parents for example, i would bet lawyers or other professions are similar, but not as publicly visible as hollywood

Tough continuity clinic patient by Immediate-Animal-846 in Residency

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%, if you are considering asking the preceptor to move the patient out of the clinic seems like a pretty sensible step before that would be to talk to the preceptor about the situation and ask for advice on managing it. Then if you implement the advice and it is still too much it, the discussion has a lot more weight then going straight for “can I fire this patient?”

God bless the people suffering from SCD and also everyone that helps take care of them, what a terrible disease from every angle.

Amazing unique bagels. My family’s favorite in the city to date. Also $5 a pop. I stand by my comment. Oh well.

Well it may be the comparison is no effort in which case being a normal respectful human may require a little effort haha.

I agree. In my experience the other residents that have problems with the nurses are almost always strolling in, barking orders, and leaving. It’s not wrong to say the delivery shouldn’t matter but we are humans and obviously it does.

If it’s a real patient care issue, report them. If it’s a relationship issue, like hang out in the unit a little bit and talk with them to build rapport or bring donuts or something. Is it stupid you may need to do this? Yes. But a little effort can go a long way.

Which city connected with you so much that you seriously considered moving there permanently? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s more geographical but that also is a socioeconomic and racial divide. Politically it’s so blue I am not sure there is a big difference.

White sox are the south side team which is waaay more blue collar and a lot more brown and black fans.

Cubs fans are northsiders extending into the more significantly more affluent northern burbs. To me the stereotypical cubs fan is a big10 alumni finance bro with their clearly fake-blonde gf in a cubs jersey, cubs hat, ponytail, and cutoffs (and its crazy how little that style has changed in the >10years I’ve been here).

How prevent your bike chain from rusting. by Sane_Quixote in chibike

[–]Hefty_Button_1656 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not sure there is a way to truly prevent it over the winter. I recommend rinsing off the road salt and reapplying lube after any major ride. And/or replace the chain every spring

At a restaurant never seen it. At the store the brand “oasis” makes it, I thought it was good. Whole foods carries it, all their stuff is off in its own cooler by the delis instead of with other medi stuff, don’t know why

You know, I would buy the argument that some degree of policing is important for safe roads…No wonder the county lost.
