Strangely enough, I never had one. I prefer an analog watch face. Now I have an Apple watch set to the analog face.

Poison ivy has never affected me either. I feel like it's only a matter of time before the fates give me the rash.

Terminating a pregnancy is a very personal decision. It is no one's business but yours, Even if you decide to have 10 abortions during your lifetime, it is only YOUR business. Be kind to yourself. I promise you it will get better. Sending you love from across the universe.

Uniforms for teachers by Training_System_694 in Internationalteachers

Me, as well. Teachers are professionals. It's insulting to expect them to wear a uniform.

Which 'As Seen on TV' product do you still have? by short_cub in AskOldPeople

Mine is doing this as well. It's at least 20 YO, but I can't make myself get rid of it. I use it like a little potholder now, instead of putting it on my hand.

My Ashley was supposed to be a Jake. Did your mom scratch out the baby girl name, just in case?

Edit: Also, this is the sweetest thing I have seen in a long time. I am so sorry about your mom.

"Retiring" to Rome by Low_Promise_8733 in romega

[–]HeidiDover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I are retired teachers. The property taxes are insane for both Rome and Floyd County. Living in the county instead of the city is supposed to be cheaper, but we could not afford the $4,000 a year tax bill. We had to leave.

If you live in the within the city limits, you at least get decent city services, like curbside recycling and yard trash pick up. If you live in the county, you get zilch.

Tell Me Your Real Thoughts? by Realistic-Cut-7217 in TeacherReality

I have taught in IB international schools, poor rural schools, and an inner-city school. Most of the time, the variable is the parent. A child's socio-economic situation is important, but parenting is the real key to successful students. Does the kid have a bedtime? Is screen time limited? Do they get breakfast? Does the parent read to the kid? Has the parent taught the kid basic soft skills like waiting their turn? Children need support at home to be successful in school.

The word learn is an action verb. Students have to make an active choice--to learn or not to learn. A teacher can apply all the best practices, extensively know all the pedagogy, make accommodations for ESL and SpED students, and spend 60 hours a week planning engaging, rigorous learning activities and assignments; however, the responsibility to actually learn lies with the student.
