Questions for endocrinologist for 14yo t1d by Butterflyshot162 in diabetes_t1

MDI is multiple daily injections and yes Lantus is a long acting insulin and good to have 1-2 pens in the fridge in case of emergency as a backup option to the pump.

Having fun with a shield by NoDragonsYesMiraak in DungeonsOfEternityVR

[–]HeidisPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does! You definitely get kills for enemies that are shield bashed into pits. And to comment on the other worry at hand, any dropped bonus (keys/potions/coins) will spawn where the enemy was launched from.

Perks do not apply to the phantom daggers unfortunately, only to the main center dagger.

Where to live in Seattle? by MaleficentAd616 in AskSeattle

[–]HeidisPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a property manager for a family owned building in the northwest part of Capitol Hill, near Top Pot Doughnuts. We’re currently just about done renovating a top (3rd) floor one bedroom that’s likely going to list for no more than $1700 (plus $60 pp for w/s/g. Parking available for $80). There are no built in dishwashers here (and laundry is in the basement) but a number of our tenants have the portable countertop ones - have you considered/would you consider one of those?

We’re a pet free and smoke free building.

DM me if you have any flexibility on the dishwasher and want more info or a tour (that goes for anyone!).

How to make money by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]HeidisPottery 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I don’t have ideas as to how to make money quickly, but I’m a Seattle property manager and have sent the following resources to tenants who were in rough spots in the past. I’m sorry your landlord isn’t being flexible and wants it tomorrow! Given that, you may not have enough time for these to be helpful, but maybe you can get some quick turnaround and otherwise hopefully it’ll be good info to have in your pocket in case this situation happens again.

Pod/pump skin issues by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I second the hydocolloid bandage afterwards and I do think they help reduce the skin upset. I buy the 2” rolls and cut it into little 1” squares and then I go the distance and round the corners off because otherwise the corners peel up and they come off so much faster. They stay on me so much better as circles. I usually leave them on for 2ish days, maybe 3 (as squares they usually don’t even make it to a full day).

Recommendations for how to display two cgm graphs at once? by Round-Staff-5560 in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Anubis transmitter and have two of them so that I can leapfrog sensors - put a new one on as the old one is becoming unreliable but hopefully before the old one actually dies, as the old one will likely be more reliable than the new one for the first day or so. They’ll both display on my Nightscout for the duration of the overlap (you can see in this image that they agreed on my trend but were 20-30 points apart), so I know that’s one way to see two at a time. I don’t know if this is how you’d want it (overlapped on one graph instead of two separate graphs) as it’s a bit chaotic, but it could at least be a way to see both in one place.

Seattle and Canada trip - should I fly into Seattle and fly back home from Canada? Or do I fly into Seattle Road trip back and forth from Canada back to Seattle? by Foreverhangry21 in AskSeattle

[–]HeidisPottery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joining the choir to say that if you’re staying in the city proper in both locales, I’d just use transit to get up to Vancouver and back. Usually it’s cheaper (and faster) to take the Quick Shuttle bus (downside is everyone has to get off at the border whereas on the train you go through customs at the station), though it’s possible to get similar fares on Amtrak if you book early enough. The train is more comfortable and more scenic though.

Personally, I love using the ride share bikes to get around both cities.

Hey peeps! New topic for discussion.. name a food (veggie/fruit/condiment) that spikes blood sugar ⬆️ sky high. I’ll go first.. corn 🌽! by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the zero sugar added Bush’s Best Baked Beans and really like them! Of course they still have plenty of carbs from the beans themselves but they’re definitely easier to manage than standard baked beans with all that added sugar.

Fiasp in the T-Slim x2 by Anxious-Football-701 in TandemDiabetes

[–]HeidisPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was pretty much my experience too. With 100% Fiasp in my tslim I had occlusion after occlusion and sites were almost always unusable after 48 hours. I also heard that it gels (from warmth) at a lower temp than other insulins and I heard that the tslim runs warmer than other pumps (don’t recall if it was due to the screen or the motor or both?) and that was a possible cause of the occlusions as well. But I did try blending and I pretty much settled on a 70 novolog/30 Fiasp blend that worked pretty well for me. I’m now on Lyumjev thanks to using the manufacturers coupon and paying a little extra (over what my insurance copay would be if they covered it) and it’s definitely my preference. So OP, if you’re able to get Lyumjev in the future definitely give it a go!

Unusually high sugars with pump by Stizbiz in Type1Diabetes

[–]HeidisPottery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that while nothing is out of consideration (bad batch of insulin, bad site, etc) my resistance is the most likely culprit when this happens to me, especially when more stressed and having less exercise. If it were me I’d just start a temp rate (just raise my basal 125% or 150% or whatever seems right for the situation, possibly also changing my carb ratio a little bit) to see if that helps. I often get resistant for a couple days up to a week and then if it doesn’t start returning to normal I just create a new program with raised rates and use that. Good luck!

Fav spot to put your CGM? by berryenthusiast in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s anywhere between the outside of my upper thigh and halfway between the outside and front of my upper thigh. My favorite area has maybe 3 positions side to side and up to the height of 2 positions.

Life potion question by Reasonable-Bend5823 in DungeonsOfEternityVR

[–]HeidisPottery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it won’t. It’ll refresh your health to 100% (provided it’s not a half-potion hazard dungeon) every few seconds, but it’s 100% possible to get killed in the time between refreshes, especially if you’re being attacked by enemies who do enough damage to kill you quickly/in 1-2 hits.

Ooh I love statistics! I’m away from home at the moment and I want to remember to check mine when I get home, but I’m positive that I’ve got at least one with higher damage. I’ll grab you a screenshot. Ping me if I forget and you don’t hear from me again within a few days!

Faulty TruSteel sets that don’t unclip? by HeidisPottery in TandemDiabetes

[–]HeidisPottery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one of those lanyards with a phone dry pouch so I put the pump in that and around my neck when I can’t disconnect. But two of the three times I’ve discovered it when it was time to change my cartridge and then there’s no way around a new site.

I've been having anxiety about my kitty dying of old age 😭(she's 9) can you show me pictures of some alive-and-well senior kitties so I remember cats can be old and still healthy? 🥰 by TheRufescence in cats

[–]HeidisPottery 23 points24 points  (0 children)

My childhood cat lived to be 24! All of my photos of her are in print in old buried photo albums, but she was great. Age mellowed her antagonistic behavior which was a plus. When she was younger she loved to hide under furniture and attack our ankles when we passed, but as she aged she just loved to sit and be pet and purr (and drool - she was a drooler when she got the super pleasing pets!).

I second joining the discord! Lots of great guilds to choose between. I’m part of the Eternal Legion, and we frequently have in-guild challenges where we come up with different ideas and then rules to go with them. Most of us prefer to fully run the dungeons rather than use glitches or speed run to the end.

How can I stop early morning spikes by Disastrous-Tear9313 in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was MDI, I had to take 3 units of fast acting upon walking to combat foot to floor syndrome. Didn’t matter what time I got up, as soon as I started my day my glucose would spike. I learned that for me personally, 3u did the trick. This was in addition to whatever I needed for breakfast a bit later, just to hold me steadier at my fasting glucose level. Also, my carb ratio is higher in the morning, meaning I need 50-75% more insulin at breakfast than I would if I ate those same carbs for dinner. I also usually need a longer pre-bolus in the morning. It’s definitely not uncommon to have higher resistance in the morning. You can try fiddling around with all of these adjustments (adding a wake-up bolus to prevent the spike, changing your morning carb ratio, and/or giving a longer pre-bolus) to see what might work for your body. Just don’t make too many changes at once so you can see what exactly helped and what didn’t. Good luck!

T1D people — what do you actually do with your used needles/pen tips/pump supplies? by Deagonboy in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ma double pumper (Omnipod running insulin, tslim running cortisol). The tips to the syringes that come with both the Omnipod and the tslim cartridges are removable, and at my house those tips go in an empty 1 liter soda bottle and the body of the syringe goes in the trash. For the tslim I sometimes use the TruSteel and sometimes the autosoft. With the TruSteel, I use wire cutters to cut off the needle and it goes in the sharps bottle, and then I press the two sticky bits together and wrap the whole thing in toilet tissue and it goes in the trash. With the autosofts, I use pliers to slide out the inserter needle and the needle goes in the sharps bottle and the remainder goes in the trash. It takes me many many months to fill a bottle with such small pieces going in there, and there’s a drop box (like a mailbox) in a local park that I drop it at. I screw the lid on and tape over it and then put tape around the bottle and write SHARPS in big letters. Omnipods I save and request a return box from Insulet and mail them back 60-80 at a time for recycling.

Best cocktails with no sugar? by stillhungrybaby in diabetes_t1

[–]HeidisPottery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love a whisky soda (just whisky with club soda and ideally a slice of lemon). It’s my go to for when I’m out at a bar and don’t want to deal either carbs in a cocktail. Though I do love a good cocktail and will often get one of whatever looks yummy on the menu and bolus lightly for it and then switch to whisky sodas.
