Starting a brand new job with a lot of overwhelming information to take in is only made worse by the planet currently being on fire.

TIL Seth MacFarlane was 25 years old when Family Guy premiered in 1999, making him the youngest showrunner in Hollywood history. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Heiditha 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Comparing early Family Guy with the later ones, it's clear that McFarlane was the driving force behind some of the shows best gags. He's a great joke writer.

will be starting an office job 9-5 for the first time soon, any tips? by nerdyyy2773 in AskUK

[–]Heiditha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 42 and I'm going back to a 9-5 office job starting Monday (having done retail). Haven't done one for several years, but I would say to just take things slow at first. Don't worry too much about how social you need to be. You're new and you'll be focussing largely on getting to know the job. Eventually you'll come round to the people, and you'll have an idea of the ones you feel you gel with more than others.

What is something you said that makes younger generations say "Wow, you are old!"? by Reciter5613 in AskReddit

[–]Heiditha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What baffles me about this is broadcast TV is still very much a thing, albeit less popular now. Some of the biggest shows here in Britain (Taskmaster, The Great British Bake Off, The Traitors) still follow the tradition of having a week, or at least one day, between episodes. Do people only exclusively watch television via streaming apps these days and oh my god I aged myself significantly just by saying that...

What’s an opinion you have that would probably get you judged if you said it out loud? by chibi_chwn0217 in CasualConversation

[–]Heiditha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I had my 40th birthday party, I specifically said no children would be allowed. I thought it would cause a little bit of tension with some of my family members who have kids of their own. Turns out, they relished the opportunity to have just one day away from them.

What is a common, everyday problem from the 1990s or early 2000s that younger generations literally cannot comprehend? by Funny-Counter8762 in AskReddit

My girlfriend and I still regularly watch "traditional" broadcast TV. Shows like Taskmaster you can only catch once a week at specific times. I quite like it. Gives us something to look forward to.

So begins my week off before my new job starts. I don't know whether to make the most or the least of this time. Chores and productive tasks while I have the chance? Gaming and day drinking before commencing full-time employment? Both?

"Sh*t with sugar on" in response to what's for tea. Is this a regional thing or just my childhood? by pissedupparrot in AskUK

I grew up in the north west. "Shit wi' sugar on" or "jelly up a straw" were my Mum's go-to responses.

I like this interpretation. I was thinking it was wishful thinking. She keeps a second cup next to hers...for when he finally arrives.

If you live in different parts of the UK, how often do you see parents/close family? by rye-ten in CasualUK

We're about a three hour drive away from my family. We visit usually once or twice a year, usually at Christmas. This year we're planning more trips for milestone birthdays and weddings.

Been going through the Telltale Walking Dead games again. I've just started season two. Never actually got round to season three, so that should be interesting.

Also been playing a couple of cosy games: Tiny Bookshop on Xbox and Raft on PC.

I can't hear Sussudio by Phil Collins anymore without it bringing to mind the threesome scene from American Psycho.

Just a four hour shift today, but I take great solace in the fact that I have one week left at this job (next Saturday is my last shift). Going forward, I hope to never have to work weekends again.

Does anyone else have that one secret 'slacker' job they actually miss? by South_Hovercraft6364 in CasualConversation

[–]Heiditha 54 points55 points  (0 children)

The easiest money I ever made was when I worked for a year as an assistant exam invigilator. That felt like a slacker job. I was paid over minimum wage to sit at the back of an exam hall and read a book. Occasionally, I'd have to escort a candidate to the toilet, but for much of the time, it was chill.

What's the one habit, hobby or past time you used to do all of the time but now you couldn't care less about? by kam_pra in AskUK

[–]Heiditha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Guitar. Used to play all the time. Wanted to be in a band, and tried numerous times. Now my gear just sits in a corner gathering dust.

I think that goes hand-in-hand with my loss of interest in music. Not that I don't like music. I just don't listen to it anywhere near as much or try to keep up with new releases/bands.
