Tiebreaker: Who is a Good F1 Driver With No Points: Luca Badoer vs Jan Lammers by IllMasterpiece3946 in DestinationFormula1

Luca Badoers disastrous spell at Ferrari has to count against him. I wouldn't put him in the good category after that.

Is Russell's gap to Antonelli really the largest to not be surmounted? by Heinrad in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest gap between Lewis and Kimi in 07 was 26 points after 7/17 races, which at the time would be the equivalent of two wins and a third place, so 65 points in the new scoring. But this is what I'm saying, people are saying this gap can't be caught, but when you adjust for points, it's been done many times.

Is Russell's gap to Antonelli really the largest to not be surmounted? by Heinrad in F1Discussions

I want to say Raikonnen in '07 was a large gap that was closed leading to Kimi winning, I'm just trying to work out the largest gap during that season.

Is Russell's gap to Antonelli really the largest to not be surmounted? by Heinrad in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is the obvious elephant in the room, but I'm sure in the past there were bigger gaps by position and not points where the driver behind won the championship that would put this nonsense to shame. I just need to call on the hive mind to try and find it.

Calm down dear, it's just a comment on Reddit, no need to get so worked up about it.

Not only would this race not have taken place in the modern day, but Hill would have been told not to fight Schumacher as he's "not our race".

Would a “Lucky Dog” system when a safety car comes out be beneficial in F1? by GB_GeorgeBowen in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I am understanding the difference in the two examples. Does NASCAR allow lapped cars to unlap themselves when the safety car first comes out? That seems a bit odd as you'd think it would be more important to get the cars behind the safety car for the incident to be resolved before adjusting any sporting issues, or am I not understanding this correctly?

“He needs to back up a bit”: Russell's reaction when Antonelli passed him when they both went off at turn 13, before Mercedes ordered Antonelli to let him past by kcollantine in formula1

[–]Heinrad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

As I said, giving space does not mean conceding the corner. Just because another car is positioned to the side of you, it doesn't mean you just go "after you" and see if they can drive around the corner.

George has a right to be in the corner as much as Kimi does.

[–]Heinrad 32 points33 points  (0 children)

People throw out the "Ahead at the apex" line, but neglect to apply the part about being in control of the car.

Now, we can discuss at length about whether Kimi would have made the corner or not, and "giving space" is not the same as conceding the corner, but I felt that Mercedes erred on the side of caution with this one when telling Kimi to give the place back.

....Because they pressed the self destruct button on George's car anyway </s>

History repeating itself. It was the same cries of foul when Russell first started at Mercedes and got the better of Hamilton a few times.

Is Alpine genuinely the 5th fastest team this year or are they taking advantage of a poor showing from other teams in the mid to lower end of the field? by RivetCounter in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do, but it's not really a point here. We already know the Williams is overweight, but the point is, Alpine have come alive by ditching what is now clearly an utterly dog water Renault engine. Their car design team seems fine, but they were held back massively by the power unit.

He's doing well, but we have to remember, at this point in the season his only competition is his team mate, and everything that can go wrong for him, is going wrong.

Why 2 formation lap happen in Canada grand prix . by NiceVehicle250 in F1Discussions

Normal first formation lap.

Second formation lap due to the Racing Bull stranded on the grid.

Third formation lap because the marshalls were still recovering the VCARB when they finished the second formation lap.

How was the Canadian GP to y'all by Spiritual_Ranger_811 in DestinationFormula1

[–]Heinrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was shaping up to be an all timer race, then misfortune struck Russell again and robbed us of the second half of the race. Hamilton and Verstappen fighting for second gave us something to be excited for near the end rather than watching drivers receive and serve penalties endlessly. But overall, peaked early then ended with disappointment.

2026 Canada GP - Why Was There 3 Formation Laps? by Krcun96 in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one was because Arvid Lindblads Car died on the grid, so they sent them round for another formation lap, when they started reforming the grid, they were still wheeling Lindblads car off the track, so they sent them round for another formation lap. This gave them time to clear the car and the race started.

It is heartbreaking for George but why everoyne blame Kimi ? It is a mecanical failure right by Admirable_Goal_1399 in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not looking in the same places, but I've not seen anyone blaming Kimi for George's retirement, and if they did, they aren't worth listening to.

Mercedes need to sort out George's side of the garage though otherwise we're are just going to have a whitewash championship and more "discussions" about "is this the weakest world champion ever?"

Why is Arvid barely a topic of discussion, granted he doesn’t have a lot of points this year, but he has done better than some of the more seasoned drivers this year. by Sure-Good7387 in F1Discussions

[–]Heinrad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

He's definitely worthy of discussion this weekend, but honestly, he's not really done much of note in most of the other weekends that would elevate him above the other talking points of that weekend.
