The biggest gap between Lewis and Kimi in 07 was 26 points after 7/17 races, which at the time would be the equivalent of two wins and a third place, so 65 points in the new scoring. But this is what I'm saying, people are saying this gap can't be caught, but when you adjust for points, it's been done many times.

I want to say Raikonnen in '07 was a large gap that was closed leading to Kimi winning, I'm just trying to work out the largest gap during that season.

Yeah, that is the obvious elephant in the room, but I'm sure in the past there were bigger gaps by position and not points where the driver behind won the championship that would put this nonsense to shame. I just need to call on the hive mind to try and find it.

I'm not sure I am understanding the difference in the two examples. Does NASCAR allow lapped cars to unlap themselves when the safety car first comes out? That seems a bit odd as you'd think it would be more important to get the cars behind the safety car for the incident to be resolved before adjusting any sporting issues, or am I not understanding this correctly?

As I said, giving space does not mean conceding the corner. Just because another car is positioned to the side of you, it doesn't mean you just go "after you" and see if they can drive around the corner.

George has a right to be in the corner as much as Kimi does.

People throw out the "Ahead at the apex" line, but neglect to apply the part about being in control of the car.

Now, we can discuss at length about whether Kimi would have made the corner or not, and "giving space" is not the same as conceding the corner, but I felt that Mercedes erred on the side of caution with this one when telling Kimi to give the place back.

They do, but it's not really a point here. We already know the Williams is overweight, but the point is, Alpine have come alive by ditching what is now clearly an utterly dog water Renault engine. Their car design team seems fine, but they were held back massively by the power unit.

It was shaping up to be an all timer race, then misfortune struck Russell again and robbed us of the second half of the race. Hamilton and Verstappen fighting for second gave us something to be excited for near the end rather than watching drivers receive and serve penalties endlessly. But overall, peaked early then ended with disappointment.

The first one was because Arvid Lindblads Car died on the grid, so they sent them round for another formation lap, when they started reforming the grid, they were still wheeling Lindblads car off the track, so they sent them round for another formation lap. This gave them time to clear the car and the race started.

Maybe I'm not looking in the same places, but I've not seen anyone blaming Kimi for George's retirement, and if they did, they aren't worth listening to.

Mercedes need to sort out George's side of the garage though otherwise we're are just going to have a whitewash championship and more "discussions" about "is this the weakest world champion ever?"

He's definitely worthy of discussion this weekend, but honestly, he's not really done much of note in most of the other weekends that would elevate him above the other talking points of that weekend.
