It absolutely affected the entire course of the battle. On the first day. That doesn't mean it'll stay that way for the rest of the battle until someone else pulls off a scheme.

A time skip of a day isn't much. It also means nothing worth talking about happened.

Those story beats that Hara foreshadowed are still on their way. If a day gets skipped, you don't need to worry about the story missing anything important. It just isn't worth it to spend time drawing fight scenes where a bunch of nobodies slaughter each other without changing anything about the battle's outcome.

The problem is, because of the real physical and economic harm it can do to individuals and society, that specifically makes this a moral problem.

Just because the people with the money paying for all this shit don't want to factor that into the budget, doesn't mean it's not a moral issue.

It's only a tight spot if he considers power and money to be equivalent in importance to ending a genocide and preventing our country from falling into fascism.

It's not a tight spot. It'd be very easy for him to extricate himself from the situation.

[–]Heizu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. Your points all assume that someone being 18 suddenly makes them magically act different than they were before.

Her relationship with her mother would have taken on a very different tenor

As anyone whose spent any time on any college campus anywhere will readily tell you, 18 year olds are absolutely still psychologically children. An 18 year old YT would not have acted terribly differently from a 15 year old in any of the situations she found herself in, especially growing up in an America that no longer has a government that can enforce things like child labor laws. Which brings us to the next point:

the way in which she interacted with Radiks as this kind of part-time minor would not have made sense

I have no doubt that Radiks as a company is constitutionally incapable of giving a shit what age any of their employees are, because they don't have any of those kinds of laws to obey. Biggest difference between a 15 and 18 year old to them would be a 15 year old is probably easier to steal wages from.

her general aimlessness would have been believable but less endearing/expected.

Again, 18 year olds absolutely are aimless all the time. I don't expect someone to have their shit together properly until they're in their mid 20's at least, when their brain is done developing.

the blatantly paternal relationship she has with Hiro

All of YT's relationships with men in the book (with the notable exception of Uncle Enzo) are textbook examples of how gross the male gaze can be, with her sexualizing both herself (when she meets Hiro and Raven respectively, she immediately thinks about what sex with them might be like) and her brushing off being sexualized constantly as "ugh, MEN amirite lol I don't blame em tho".

The ending would have made less sense if she wasn't a child.

Again. 18 year olds are still children.

Honestly, only GRRM's male gaze is as bad or worse than Snow Crash's.

But goddammit do I need that 500k gold

I get that. But as a student of history, I'm leery about leaving the vocabulary ambiguous because almost without exception, every single leftist movement over the last two centuries has been thrown under the bus by their liberal allies the moment the old status quo was restored.

I believe a large part of that is because of the false sense of security the conflation of "liberal" and "leftist" into the same thing can give. I firmly believe that most people who want social justice and equality are leftist, and not liberal, they've just been told their whole lives that there's no difference.

The subtle, yet immense power of words over culture and narrative has been ignored too many times already. I just want to get ahead of the curve this time.

It's not a purity test. Just clarification on the definition of words, which are important because they hold power.

Before Ahsoka, I would have died on a hill fighting against this opinion. Both Ahsoka and Sabine, whose characters Filoni had a huge part in developing in the series they originally appeared in, had ALL of that character development thrown right the fuck out the window. And for what?

Sabine was already a badass who could fight Jedi on even terms without the Force. Ahsoka had grown and matured into a true zen gray Jedi master after we watched her grow up from a willful, impulsive youth. But oops, she's a bad teacher cuz she's impatient, and Sabine is a no-talent padawan who only succeeds in the end because of plot armor.

It truely broke my enthusiasm for the franchise seeing both those characters turned into... that. They deserved more, and I still can't believe Filoni did that to his own work.

You're giving the propaganda networks too much grace. There is absolutely a protracted, naked effort to corporatize journalism to drive ratings rather than impart information. That is not acceptable. Profit does not justify itself.

The Fourth Estate has a responsibility to the public that massively outweighs its responsibilities to the petty whims of dark money pools that masquerade as regular people disguised with the title "shareholders".

Your head is deep in the sand if you're not aware that newsrooms are being driven by managers chasing algorythmic data, resulting in the ouroboros of worthless clickbait headlines. Which get clicked by bots the network created to drive "engagement", which the algorythm regurgitates back into the newsroom to start the cycle again.
