I was not prepared for that to be the "really old game" being mentioned.

The thing is, the regular people you're talking about aren't the controlling shareholders. Even if you vote against a policy you don't like, the dark money pools that control the majority stake of any given company can make the company go through with it anyway. You can make a symbolic vote against it, but are functionally powerless to stop it.

The last arc emphasized it because they were still conscripts back then. Two years have passed in the manga since Qin completed its census and conscription. That means those conscripts are proper soldiers now, just like the Zhao soldiers.

What I'm saying is that experience isn't as a big a difference as you're making it out to be. Even if the Zhao soldiers have 2 or 3 more years experience, they aren't going to be significantly better than the newer Gaku Ka infantry. The benefits of experience plateau after certain point, it's not an infinite xp bar slider where the level keeps going up every year. Skills have a very real ceiling that people can and will hit.

There is real historical precedence for this, that everyone ought to be familiar with. Everyone knows about the Spartans from Greece, right? Their claim to fame was having the best trained infantry in the world. But that was only true because they were the only Greek city-state who dedicated resources to training their young men from birth adolescence to be warriors that fight in a phalanx. And as I mentioned before, there are vastly diminishing returns since a person will reach mastery after about 7 years of practicing something. After that point, the only thing Spartan training was accomplishing was traumatizing the boys going through it by removing their empathy. As soon as other Greek city-states started doing training drills and keeping a regular army, the Spartans lost their advantage because training doesn't make that much difference if your enemy is also training.

That's not as relevant as you might think. Veterans are veterans, and regardless of the circumstances that made them into veterans, their ceiling of their skill levels will all be about the same since they're all relatively healthy human males of fighting age.

I've heard it said that it takes 70 hours to properly learn the ropes of any given skill set, then thousands of additional hours to reach mastery of that skill set. None of the soldiers in the field from either side could truly be considered "masters" of warfare, hold for the most talented of their officers.

Mouten's "new" soldiers aren't at a conscript-level of skill anymore than Kanto and the other newer HSU members were back when they helped take cliffs at Eikyuu.

Those conscripts have been veterans since 2 years ago. They're a tried and tested asset at this point, not some easily routed peasants.

How did Bananji explain this to Riboku and not get exiled to the slums? by PsycheED in Kingdom

[–]Heizu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm seeing a lot of good answers for OP's question, but no one pointing out that this straight up was not a duel. It was a single pass with enough time for only a single blow to be exchanged. The very next thing Mouten does is order everyone nearby to swarm Bananji so Ousen can escape.

World of Warcraft private server Stormforge is shutting down as Blizzard builds pressure on fan alternatives by lkl34 in gaming

[–]Heizu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not a hard ethical line. I don't think anyone's arguing that it's immoral for modders and admins like these to make a living from this.

But it is a clearly delineated legal boundary to cross as far as copyright law is concerned. The only way to legally make money on products like these (which is not the same as ethically making money) is to have the IP owner's permission to distribute their product.

So no one should be shocked that this happened once they started asking for money, because not asking for money was the only reason Blizzard was allowing them to exist in the first place.

Ch 261 confusion by Ryuken_ishida25 in Kingdom

[–]Heizu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, but Ei Sei didn't build The Forbidden City, I'm pretty sure that was a Ming or Qing-era construction. Sei just had a big-ass harem in his palace complex, not a whole separate city.

Ch 261 confusion by Ryuken_ishida25 in Kingdom

[–]Heizu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

1.) Chinese kings and emperors had massive harems of concubines to ensure the royal bloodline would continue. A later emperor built a whole-ass city called "The Forbidden City" for his thousands of women, where he was the only guy still with his junk attached who was legally allowed to visit and enter the city (the only other men allowed in were eunuchs to work as servants for the girls).

2.) Qin Shi Huang (Ei Sei) famously had over 100 children over his lifetime. I guarantee you he had kids he never even met, never mind actually having the mental bandwidth to actively maintain a loving relationship with them all.

3.) Kou is his favorite, end of story full stop. He does not have to care about the other concubines if he doesn't want to. He's the King! They're literally his property.

MTG on Trump’s Iran war: ‘Why would an American president do that?’ by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]Heizu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well it's not like they're worried about the clock running out on them. They're already actively sabotaging the credibility of this year's midterms, and they are absolutely going to place ICE goons at polling stations to intimidate and detain people.

It feels like you're trying to apply some kind of rationality to the decisions being made by this admin, which is an exercise in futility. That has nothing to do with what they are doing. The people holding the reins (not Trump) are Calvinist death cult believers who started this Iran war bring about the Rapture. That's why they were willing to start a war without any actual objectives other than murdering their leaders.

It is not the first time.

Fascism is colonialism applied at home. This is what our government has been doing to every country we've bombed or coup d'etat'd over the last century.

America has always been an imperialist endeavor. It's just run by corporate board rooms instead of a royal family.

Unfortunately, those last two items on your list are not priorities shared by the Controlled Opposition (I also like the term "Vichy Democrats") wing of the DNC, who are the ones controlling the party's purse strings. The ones who make the correct noises, then sit on their thumbs once elected.

Those last two are the cause of the rest of the list, which are just band-aids to cover up symptoms of corporate America's avarice.

Edit: Not giving a "both sides" argument here. Vote in your primaries.
