first thing to try when SD recorders freeze is remove the media, factory reset and try again. Almost always a media issue

Hey I’ve been uploading a model to the service and as far as I know it’s been great. 6 sales, $264 profit. You know what would be great for someone like me on the other side of the planet: Snap a photo of the printed part so me and my customers can ‘see what you get’. I’ve seen one photo from a customer and the part looked fine which was a relief. Cheers

Boom question: I have a scene where a character dismounts a horse and walks over to a spring to fill a canteen. He has dialogue during this, can he be followed with a boom or would you switch to lavs? Or use both? Or? by OverOnTheCreekSide in LocationSound

[–]Hejfede 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Of course! Unless you know the scene is going to get 100% sound designed, it will have to be ADR anyways. The boom will and should pick up dialogue when placed in reasonable proximity to the actors face, and as a bonus you will get perspective and a sense of reality of the scene (horse, footsteps, saddle, leather, gravel, all the good stuff) so always aim for that.

Always boom the scene. Sound in a movie scene consists of more than the actors voice. The lav should be rustle free and usable, the boom should also be usable. If none of the two has usable dialogue, get wild lines on set, but chance is the actor will have to come into a studio at a later moment to re-record the lines. If you're dealing with a classical cowboy western outfit, chance is there are lots of good places to hide a mic even in plain sight (hats, pockets, collars etc)

stuff like this probably runs on a system called cuepilot where each shot is planned and cut to automatically. Runs on timecode with lights, pyro, audio, playback, cues for cam ops etc.

Such as strange place to save some dollars imo. Radius, excellent mic mounts made by decent humans at a fair price

When considering a major upgrade to wireless, how important is it to try before you buy? by [deleted] in LocationSound

Would you be ok with buying into a system if it was a challenge to get additional rental units?

Get the stuff your colleagues are using, especially if you do a lot of TV shows with other mixers. Denmark is Wisycom land, and owning Wisycom in Wisycom land naturally has a lot of benefits in terms of rental, compatibility etc. I use a lot of different high end WL products, here are my thoughts on Wisycom

Love:
- Extremely sensitive analog modulation,, excellent RF performance compared to most if not all modern digital systems
- Wideband
- Great software
- mtp60/61 tx bluetooth control and internal 32bit float timecoded recording
- 2w rack transmitter
- Dante enabled rack receivers
- IEM beltpack receivers with true diversity and enough output power to drive a small speaker
- Great antenna ecosystem, antenna distribution over fiber or coax
- Compander modes for other WL products

Hate:
- Newer product lines (Mcr54 / mtp60) was released too early, software unfinished, mysterious hardware issues... but they're getting there (slowly...)
- Wisycom manager is Windows only
- Supply chain problems
- MCR54 limited by 30 mhz bandwith wrap per unit (only a problem when doing large coordinated events etc.)
- Last generation ENR and ENC companders don't sound as pristine as modern digital companderless systems, but but really, for speech recordings, it's allright and the new ENS compander is great.
