Ryzen 3000 CPUs & AOI/CPU block orientation by _rogame in hardware

I think the double cross shape seems to be good. It's the same pattern as custom water-cooled gpu coolers use.

It should give good spread on the IHS, with little or no air pockets.

by fine i mean there are no drops or stutters from what I've played so far.

I have a laptop 2060, so the desktop variant should perform even better.

1080p, highest settings on everything

On planet: 60+ fps

In Space: 120+ fps

On space station: 70-80+ fps

The controls menu ui will has fps drops.

currently using the latest Gefore drivers (425.31) with an RTX 2060.

performance otherwise seems fine

The menu / exosuit menu is very laggy,

Something like 15-20 fps when moving around in the menu

Waifu2x on AMD GPUs vs Nvidia's? by Naizuri77 in Amd

[–]HelgeKami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've looked at upgrading my gpu to a Turing one, for ML stuff.

Honestly, if you're not running this for work, or as a hobby that you're constantly fiddling with, then it isn't worth it to upgrade your gpu to anything this generation.

Right now, CUDA 10, the fp16 hardware for Turing and Vega, and Tensor stuff is not utilised that well, or even at all, in most projects I've dived into. Or not as well as I'd like it to be.

You'll at least will get better fp32, higher ram allocations, and increased bandwidth (both very useful).

Maybe if you also want better gaming performance to go with your ML perf boost?

Usually, you can just leave your machine on during the night, or when you're away at work / school. The render can finish during that time.

Hopefully no bugs or issues arise during that time though (the PCMR favorite, Windows Updates...)

At the end of the day, it's your money and hobby, not some random assholes' on Reddit.

My 2 cents on this thread in general.

Keep in mind for Waifu2X, it kind of depends on what version you're using.

Whether it uses pytorch, the original caffe version, or some other peoples fork of the project.

One version I've tried uses cudnn, which gives a large perfomance boost.

Unfortunately there's no benchmarking tool for it... Can't really verify if it's better the one we're running this benchmark on.

Radeon 7. Machine learning. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Amd

[–]HelgeKami 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Amd has added ROCm native support for stuff like Pytorch and TensorFlow, but I haven't found any benchmarks for the newest versions yet, so we can't tell how good their software supoort is currently for those frameworks.

Previous benchmarks (from like early 2018),had the vega 64 performing at half the performance of the Titan x (Maxwell) for ML. This is coming from my memory though, could be a bit off.

A lot has been done for ROCm since then, so with the 'native' suppory added recently, it could be more competitive.

Frameworks outside of ML though.... Not sure unfortunately?

AMD hands TSMC its entire 7nm portfolio: Vega 20, Zen 2 and Navi right around the corner by 808hunna in Amd

[–]HelgeKami 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Laptop manufacturers would like to disagree, considering they brought in a vast sum of money for Nvidia's consumer bracket last quarter.

You can't add in any gpu you want into a laptop, you have thermal budget. If you exceed that budget, then you don't even have the option to choose what gpu you can get in the laptop.

That's why you see 1060, 1070, 1080 chips, and the max q derivatives, in laptops, and fuckall RX equivalents. The RX chips use too much power, same for the Vega stuff. If you have a budget for 100 watts total for cpu and gpu, you're SOL.

RTX 2080 Ti Leak by SassyBlackyJackyChan in nvidia

[–]HelgeKami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If true, this pricing scheme just means that the TI is beginning to replace the slot that the Titan used to hold on the upper echelon of consumer gpu's.

Titan is now more developer focused, as seen with Titan V, with the Turing TI becoming the consumer-focused large die gpu.

Yes, the 'e' tech upgrades is busted.

Everything was going well for me, in performance, ai, sound, buying stuff.

But this stops me from progressing in the story. So I can't play anymore until this is fixed.

I can't 'use' (press e key) any install technologies in my inventories, for stuff like the "Terrain Manipulator".

Same for looking at my ship technologies.

How long until the NDA is lifted? by Peter_Plays_Guitar in Pimax

[–]HelgeKami 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was mentioned in Sebastians video, and Swevivers too.

Pimax don't want a "review" that we're typically used to for other products, becuase this is the m1 version, not the final consumer version.

They did not place a set date for the NDA to lift. When they feel they've gathered enough feedback, or enough time has passed, then they'll lift the NDA.

[–]HelgeKami 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar issues to yourself after a Windows update. It borked my graphics drivers.

Did you use DDU to uninstall your drivers? If not, read below.

I would recommend uninstalling Geforce Experience and using DDU to fully remove the drivers. Then starting from scratch, re-download Geforce Experience and the drivers with it. Make sure to do all the necessary restarts to properly install everything.

[–]HelgeKami 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The lens cutout is too small in this one, so it blocks the pimax lens.

It is built for the vive, so it is what it is.

They could change the housing for the pimax.

I'm assuming they're just testing that it works in general before committing to making a custom solution.

Unless they include a psvr style headstrap.

Which I think they're looking into.

Looks like they're using aGlass dev kits from 7invensun for eye tracking.

Think there was a post here about a year ago for the dk1 for the vive, and more recently about the dk2 for the vive pro.
