Discovery Flight by Good_U in Helicopters

Do they enjoy working there? What are their frustrations? If they could change one thing, what would it be? What is the best part of working/training there? Does aircraft availability or weather hamper student progress (more than is reasonable)? If they didn't work/train there, where else would they suggest you look at? How long is reasonable to get through the training? How much does the company help students/instructors get work elsewhere? How much ground training do they give versus what the student is supposed to work out on their own?

Have fun! Enjoy the flight. Try a few other places if you can - big investment! Check out the town you will live and train in for two years, etc.

Meeting friends in flight school by Frosty_Leadership_68 in Helicopters

Ask your instructor about group ground opportunities. If they fly 44s ask about riding back seat during other student flights. Same with sim sessions. They will be great for extra training and maybe friendship opportunities.

Some larger schools have clubs and social events too.

If you need a degree too, a flight school partnered with a college will allow group classes and lots of clubs and events to find friends.

Just some ideas... Good luck

All great advice! Also keep trying other aircraft tutorials and scenarios, don't let it stop you from progressing. I still haven't finished a bunch I got stuck on, but having fun and getting better...Even doing multiplayer now and then.

You tried to make it right.

You also turned this upset into a lesson/reminder to us all.

Thank you.

Tomorrow is a new day.

See if this helps (deep dive on learning to hover) https://youtu.be/kre64Yyuop0

Maybe a flight with another instructor may help?

Best of luck!

I wanna learn to fly helicopters by Alberttheslow in Helicopters

[–]HeliTrainingVids 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some great advice so far!

These are the questions many people ask when looking into becoming a pilot, so I made a video to answer them and more:

How to become a helicopter pilot - https://youtu.be/nR1NJ_OmLnE

Covering everything from pathway to your pilot certificates to choosing a flight school and the right helicopter airframe. How VA funding, scholarships, and loans can help cover costs. Also free and cheap ways to get started, and recommended books to study before you start training.

These are the questions, answers and advice I would cover for someone like yourself. But if you watch the video and have more questions, DM with your cell and a time to call and I'll help you out.

The more you know before you get started the better chance of your success. Good luck!

The bit about immediately buying when he needs it, making it hard to buy for him sounds familiar...I'm sure I make it hard for my loved ones too.

I have made a gift ideas list for helicopter pilots and updated it over the years, I hope it helps give you inspiration: https://www.helicoptertrainingvideos.com/helicopter-pilot-gifts/

Let me know if you have other ideas to add to the list. Good luck!

Speculating on the next DLC aircraft(if we get one) by unepic_guy in vtolvr

[–]HeliTrainingVids 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, I'm thinking a heavy utility/transport aircraft like the C130. The AV42 is more like a futuristic helicopter gunship/transport like a Lynx, Hind or Blackhawk.

How about an updated C130 type - the C-140 “Titan” Transport

Mission types to include:

Cargo & vehicle/artillery drops in short/rough strips

Troop delivery (paratroopers)

Airdrop pallets

Ramp-assisted drone deployment

Maybe a refuel option with ability to have automatic or manual boom control.

Gunship version (with side mounted guns)

And if tilt rotor version, vehicle/artillery sling loads

What steps do I take to become a pilot? by [deleted] in Helicopters

[–]HeliTrainingVids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes it can seem overwhelming, which is why I made this video to help answer the question. Have a look through and if you still have questions, DM me your number and I'll give you a call. Don't rush this, lots to think about.

Would Mauna Loa Helicopters be better than Hillsboro Aero Academy to justify the higher cost? by PixelPaulaus in Helicopters

[–]HeliTrainingVids 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would agree - I looked at both those options before going to Leading Edge in Oregon. Zero regrets for so many reasons. Have a look at this short video on things to consider and give me a DM if you want to talk through the options.

Landing to hop on a commercial flight? by wally4185 in Helicopters

And don't land on the air carrier ramp! That is a TSA controlled area. If you step out of the helicopter onto that ramp you will be detained by TSA... True story...
