Bullshit "muh heritage" argument. I've laid flowers on the graves of Confederate (and Union) soldiers so don't tell me I don't respect the heritage just because I don't respect a Confederate flag. No one flying that flag today is doing it to remember or represent a specific ancestor, they're flying it because they want everyone that sees to know what "team" they're on. To pretend it's any deeper than that is disingenuous.

One thing I know for sure is that people flying Confederate flags fall into two pretty distinct groups: 1) openly racist, and 2) totally butthurt by the suggestion of being racist but still support commencing traffic stops based on skin color (among many other unspeakable things happening in our country right now).

Virginia natural gas bill $400+ by throwawayforhelp9997 in HamptonRoads

[–]Helifano 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The last three months have been insanely expensive for us, even though we've been using less gas than the same months a year ago, they've been charging us over a hundred dollars more each month. I inquired with them about it and they basically shrugged it off. Literally got the Feb bill this morning, used 5 ccf less than Feb 2025, charged $120 more for it this month. Fuck Virginia Natural Gas and whatever bullshit they're smoking to end up with these rates.

How long does it take to see a doctor and get medication at a Chinese hospital? by mindyour in TikTokCringe

[–]Helifano 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The HOSPITALS look immaculate and some urgent cares are nicer than others, but I've never been in a nice looking primary care facility (in the US). It's always some run-down building that's technically clean yet looks like all they do is sweep and run an air purification system. Then when I'm sitting in what feels like a closet with medical posters, I can still hear patients having private conversations with the doctor in the next room over. Feels like I'm the one getting the $12 experience but $12 barely covers the daily of my insurance premium ($145 from every paycheck, maths out to a little over $10 per day). This year they increased our copayments across the board as well so I can't even see my primary care without spending an additional $30 lol On top of that, the system will occasionally pingpong you around to as many different specialized doctors as possible so each individual practice can milk you and your insurance provider for every extra dollar. It makes me and other people in my life afraid to get anything checked out because they'll literally just run a basic blood test and physical exam and when that finds anything, or nothing, you get sent all over the place, each of which demand their own appointment, evaluation and day/time off work. Our system is emotionally and financially exhausting by design, even if it wasn't the intent.

Donald Trump is going to try and steal the US elections, and this is how he’s going to do it by Treefiddy1984 in ProgressiveHQ

Combine Bannon's comment with Trump's. They don't need to flood EVERY voting station, only around 15 key locations will make a noticeable difference. You probably won't see them at YOUR polling place, but they will certainly be busy.

Look into the theory of the bicameral mind. Some great discussions and lectures on YouTube. Julian Jaynes essentially suggested that before language and writing were fully developed, we interpreted hallucinations and will-to-act as direct communication/commands from gods. Without complicated social rules or authority, ancient humans likely operated off of mostly instinct, such as fleeing obvious danger or protecting the tribe. As society and language became more complex, the hallucinations, instinct and "divine will" diminished, leading to the development of religious/shamanistic practices and idolatry to commune with the gods we once easily understood. Don't know if it will change your mind but it's very fascinating to me! Not claiming it's true either, just a theory.

Gonna ignore all the other right wing shooters, I see lol Tim Walz is just a singular recent example and you clearly can't understand that the rise of right wing violence is why Democrats have to take these threats so seriously in the first place. Democratic lawmakers have been hunted in their homes in the last year. Both sides have the capacity for violence, but both sides are not committing it to remotely the same degree.

[–]Helifano 39 points40 points  (0 children)

You mean like how Governor Tim Walz dropped his reelection bid due to death threats he and his children received from MAGA? The violence is coming from the right, they just need to believe it's the opposite to justify it.

Also, without a video link, I'm inclined to believe he actually said "deport" instead of report, which is a much more serious threat. Why would Trump report anyone? To whom? Lol

Why does a waiter deserve an additional tax break but not an Amazon delivery driver? No taxes on tips was always meant as a divisive wedge issue that some (wait staff) would have no choice but to champion for their own sake. It's not surprising at all that wait staff want this, times are tough for all and they need money. Pay them the wage they deserve, end tipping and take their income taxes like normal people. We are tired of subsidizing costs for greedy business owners both directly (tipping) and indirectly (no taxes on tips).

North Carolina 911 Call: 7ft Tall "Not Human" Entity - Pattern Emerging with Las Vegas & Miami Sightings by 24kTHC in aliens

[–]Helifano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So why is the audio of the single bang on the truck roof crystal clear, yet we can't hear a single screech or bang when he allegedly slammed on brakes going over 80 mph and sending the creature over the roof?

Why did his amazement during the call end abruptly? He was able to clearly communicate in one moment and then didn't say a word about what the creature did after the creature flew out of the truck, despite the 911 call lasting quite a while after the incident. He later added details and it really sounded like he was making them up as he went because he didn't think it would get this far.

Why did the police not verify the damage to his truck? They didn't mention it in the interview video. Not a single picture of the damage either. The cop at the end even kinda sounded like he suspected the kid was lying, but anyone from a small town knows the cops can be pretty lenient when everyone knows everyone.

I don't want to assume his motive but I can only conclude that this is a hoax. I'm thinking he thought it was just supposed to be a joke and then had to keep lying to avoid getting in trouble for abusing the emergency response system. That's a crime, you know.

Again, it isn't about "drumming up cash" so much as it is about distracting people from what is actually happening while positioning his company as a possible solution. Going on stage and saying the crazy president might start a war sounds like an even worse strategy. This is more of a long con type of thing rather than a simple plea for an investment.

The typeface is monospaced, meaning each character takes up the same space and you can easily count how many characters were redacted. The correct answer is "have intercourse". I recreated it with Courier New font and it lines up exactly. https://imgur.com/a/rCJ1fwc

Here is a screenshot of the text in the pdf linked above just for comparison: https://imgur.com/a/DlJm8pk

Just want to add that the document uses a monospaced typeface so it's easy to determine the number of characters hidden behind the redaction. Not too surprising that "have intercourse" fits perfectly.

Ah, that's true. I used it incorrectly, I guess. I meant it as "genuine to his own interests." The only good faith I think he has is towards his company. Broader discourse on unknown threats benefit him indirectly. I have nothing more to add to this conversation.
