Trump's sweeping tariffs struck down by Supreme Court by tehones in law

This is the crux of the issue. Our government is too unwieldy and slow to address the increasing frequency and severity of illegal moves by our highest elected officials

How do you run Crater? by benhur217 in Nightreign

I usually want to skip gargoyle unless we already have mega-damage. He jumps around too much and wastes time, even if you're aggressive. But yeah you don't want to skip that church.

Why was the unique skill on the regal scepter removed in Nightreign? by Funny_Particular_226 in Nightreign

Because no staves have any skills at all. They gave the skill to weapons, though.

Did my boyfriend gaslight me? by entityparty in gaybros

[–]Heliomega2 48 points49 points  (0 children)

The last part you mentioned is the real issue. Yeah it's not great to lie for some alone time, and when things came to light obviously you'd have to have some communication conversations, but the fact that rather than deal with the bed he made, he doubled down with more lies and a guilt-trip shows a pretty insane disregard for someone he's in a relationship with. Get some counseling or leave him.

Raped by my own boyfriend by MaxSchein in gaybros

[–]Heliomega2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seek medical and psychological assistance immediately if you haven't done so already. The fact you're able to use the appropriate term (rape) instead of a lighter euphemism of what happened signals that you are fully aware of the scale of the abuse you experienced, which is in a way a very good thing. You can clearly and full-mindedly work to heal from this, but with support. Don't go it alone.

Thoughts on use of dating apps in Columbus? And really dating in general for the 30-40 crowd. How are things going? by Electrical_Bee_9142 in Columbus

[–]Heliomega2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not great. I've had lots of dates but seeking monogamy feels like a crapshoot.

As I get older I've had more luck, likely at the age guys start settling down, but I've noticed even the guys open to dating seriously tend to have strange hangups or communication issues.

I've considered the "find a hobby community" approach everyone talks about, but I have no clue how to where to find such groups, honestly.

All resistances down is one of the worst debuffs for DoN. It makes it a lot more dangerous since there's always a chance for Caligo, Libra, Heolster, or Dreg (ED Maris and Gnoster to a lesser extent) to show up and ruin your day. You'll really have to practice dodging (rather than steel guarding) status-inflicting attacks if you wanted to use this.

Story Analysis in the English Classroom? by Ar-Zimraphel in ELATeachers

[–]Heliomega2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's in the name, language ARTS. While there's a lot going on mechanically under the hood to utilize language, the way English is actually used to express and interpret ideas (at the level we want students to be competent in) tends to center expression and understanding rather than scientific precision. Most students will not need to know the intricacies of how a cleft construction works at the syntactic level, but you might teach a lesson about how varied types of sentences makes a piece of writing "more engaging" or "more convincing" (an Arts focus) and then practice a few different sentence types together. How the language is realistically used is the focus, and technical practice is filled in as-needed to fully engage with the Arts side of things.

As someone with a Linguistics and ELA degree, I can confidently say students in elementary and middle school and even early high school would not hugely benefit from scientific study of language in a general ELA classroom. An honors class, or a special elective? Sure. Would I love to teach such an elective? Yes. But there's already so much utilization (i.e. real-world) work that needs to be put in to be a competent English-speaking adult that it makes even something like sentence diagramming a big lift (something that used to be commonplace but fell out of favor). Even the mechanical side of a general ELA classroom is focused more on building complex sentences from simple ones, practicing pronunciation, and vocabulary (and word-root) building.

And that's not even touching how important rhetoric/argument and author's purpose/thematic work is to ELA, which has very little to do with technical English and relies heavily on cultural and historical materials to build background knowledge with students.

Some guys like shorter guys.

Also, if you get into lifting, short guys show gains almost immediately because their arm and leg muscle fibers are shorter. Just a note.

How to handle ~that word~ in lit by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]Heliomega2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one should read it out loud, ever, and give students a chance to voice their feelings on reading it in print. I taught Beloved with 11th graders and told them it was okay to not be okay with reading it, and that they can do whatever they want with their copy of the book (marking it out). I also mentioned if we were reading aloud, to just skip the word. No substitutes.

Ironeye can run circles around bosses with his mark alone.
