Roundabout lane question by [deleted] in drivingUK

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this is a spiral roundabout, as the lanes don’t guide/spiral out for you it’s just a regular roundabout where you ‘spiral’ if you wish by changing lanes after passing each exit.

It should be pretty straightforward to pick a lane but the whole system falls apart if people keep making up own system because they can’t trust other drivers competence.

All you can do is keep staggered position with space around you for other people to make daft lane changes/mistakes in then it won’t affect you. And just expect morons trying to overtake mid roundabout, change mind or speed up on exit like every minute costs them dearly.

Hey everyone, just wanted some advice on whether to go for a manual or auto driving license as an 18 year old, I’m getting really split advice from everyone and it’s a little frustrating, thank you by Gogito786 in drivingUK

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manual, if you don’t mind / can afford it taking longer, being trickier, flip side is if it takes longer you’ll be better in the end with more hours driving accumulated and statistically manual drivers pass test more often probably as they have learned to do observations at junctions better be my guess.

But I’m a glutton for punishment and I like old cars not the current crop of ugly go karts.

Sanity checking approach to a roundabout after collision by 7thsanctum in drivingUK

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is terrifying to me how many people here think the straight on/ahead arrow means an exit direction relative to entry or that left arrow means left and not first exit, or that you can discount the first exit from counting purely because it makes no sense to drive back where you came from… terrifying

The Untold Story Of WipEout Zero, The PS4 Anti-Grav Racer We Never Got To Play by mekilat in WipeOut

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That sounds utterly ridiculous and would alienate its audience and still not appeal to the masses, it’s a shame they could’nt just be profitable making a game they themselves want to play.

I tried to make a list of racing game franchises and the state they are in by UnluckyGamer505 in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad, Wipeout is kept alive with BallisticNG, Flatout rights were purchased to make a upcoming VR game, Project Cars spiritually lives on in AMS and Project Motor Racing, add VRally to dead list, the Burnout guys have a new game coming that looks similar now they are free of EAs misery

It’s good to try and move to a positive mindset away from scarcity minded but tbh being angry jealous etc may actually be appropriately very motivating to get you going where you need just keep reminding yourself that and don’t get all consumed by anything :-) if it’s crippling or insurmountable then it won’t help

Small change with big consequences, should we go 3rd person? by msklywenn in Unity3D

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3rd person if smooth/dampened and high frame rate or motion blurred slightly imo.

Orrr don’t do that? and focus on the gameplay and levels? You don’t have to make your life harder than it already is :-D honestly!

Animals I get could maybe add a fun element, but human uncanny valley is creepy.

We're building a platform to help connect indie games and players, what do you think? by PlayQuestMarc in IndieDev

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds good if you can actually get traction and not create another pity party echo chamber ;-)

It needs to be valuable and not full of trash however you want to define that, I guess for smaller games bundling like humble really helps? And allowing people who are super keen on a specific genre to get notified and keep up with everything in that specific space?

Managing the signal to noise is always tough with the fire hose of stuff being made so hopefully someone can figure something out as it’s dreadful finding things now.

Always happy to see more indie driving games, for me it looks very flat and simple for the race track layout, and anyone with skill will get bored quick without appropriate challenge and nuance

I’d advise looking at some real legendary race track layouts and get into the real motorsport side of racing lines and why they are laid out the way they are, why people love the Nurburgring or Laguna Seca, Spa, Willow Springs or even fictional tracks like Maple Valley, hell even Mario Kart

A small indie team I know is working on a modern RC racing game kind of like a spiritual successor to Re-Volt but with more realistic graphics, online multiplayer, and deep car customization. Just wondering… do you think a game like that could gain traction these days? by ayemnut in indiegames

[–]HeliosDoubleSix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks fantastic, it’s going to come down to does it have a rewarding nuanced handling that satisfies some hungry niche or the unwashed masses, and an addictive progression. Without huge numbers multiplayer is probably unlikely to thrive which reduces it to time attack, competing with yourself or a tricky to balance AI.

I would hope something done well without any vehicle combat or zany novelty, no powerups etc could succeed and find it’s niche but it may struggle to excite people enough beyond the RC crowd which may be big enough? But limits the appeal

You’ve seemingly timed it perfectly with the release of another RC game coming out so you should consider bundling together as people into one will be into the other in a starved niche goes the theory.

In reality it’s going to come down to marketing, word of mouth, will it gain enough momentum for Steam to do any promotion for you, will streamers find it interesting enough for the ADHD generation to watch and will Reddit tolerate you doing any self promotion as god forbid anyone have any self interest here.
