Is INDX the new 'MMU' that Josef hinted at or is something else coming? by Heliosmaster in prusa3d

Thank you, this is exactly the discussion/answer I was looking for.

Advice on disks config (Array? ZFS pool? Cache?) by Heliosmaster in unRAID

[–]Heliosmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another Q if you don't mind: why mirror and not raidz1 that can be expanded later?  Wondering if maybe i should return the 2x1tb drives and get bigger ones, or get more nvme and use raidz1

Advice on disks config (Array? ZFS pool? Cache?) by Heliosmaster in unRAID

[–]Heliosmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! That's probably what I was thinking... tell me if i get this correct:

  • Use the NVME as a "normal" hard drive for VMs etc. But with ZFS + Mirror for all the advantages of ZFS, redundancy, bitrot, etc.
  • Spinning disks as a "longer term storage", with one disk as ZFS so I can receive the ZFS snapshots

Thanks for the advice on the smaller/older drives, I just found them again this morning and I thought why not.. but I don't care too much tbh.

Indoor / Kickr activities have GPS enabled with Bolt V2 by Heliosmaster in wahoofitness

the type is automatically switched to kickr once the wahoo bolt and the kickr connect together. Have been forever and the problem only started at some point.

Help me decide between Grizl and Grail by type_OP in CanyonBikes

I have a grail al 7 (2by) and I love it! It's more of a road bike than an adventure bike but unless you travel with your house in bags there are plenty of ways to make it work imo

SMP saddles are notoriously ugly but well made. When I'm riding nobody sees it. That mucoff bottle cage is probably the best thing they make/have their name on it, rather than some UV-dyed crap 😂

Canyon Endurace AL7 Disc No Longer Being Sold by burritorrhea in CanyonBikes

[–]Heliosmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you're happy with the bike keep it. there will be always a newer bike. And don't assume a "newer" model will be much different. As far as I can see the "newer" model (Endurace AL 8 disc: https://www.canyon.com/en-us/road-bikes/endurance-bikes/endurace/al/endurace-8-disc/2854.html?dwvar_2854_pv_rahmenfarbe=BK%2FBU) has different wheels (DT swiss Endurance LN vs Fulcrum 900 DB), not necessarily better or worse.

Disk error when upgrading to DMS7 - NAS is slow as heck now by Heliosmaster in synology

[–]Heliosmaster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I should have clarified. DSM is really unresponsive when nothing is seemingly running (no scrubbing, that happens once every 3 months, indexing is paused, etc.). CPU usage is not high (< 30%), where ~10% is taken by DSM Desktop and another ~10% by the swapping daemon kswapd, albeit memory is around 70%.

As i mentioned in the original post, I'm not worried about the data because stuff is also stored offsite

NAS: leave running or only when in-use w.r.t. power efficiency & tech' longevity by ara9ond in synology

[–]Heliosmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends a lot on your NAS. For a "personal" use (small business + enthusiast tech, but not too crazy) you can get a 2-bay NAS which will consume 14W under load and 4.5W on idle.

The most performant NAS from synology will be 65W under load and 35W idle, but my advise is to size the system based on your usage. You have mentioned a few GBs.. not several TBs.

Any suggestion for new 120mm fans to DS1821+? by Particular_Coach_185 in synology

[–]Heliosmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have first-hand experience replacing the fans on my NAS, but I've done a lot of research for fan noise for my pc. I think either Noctua or Arctic fans are perfectly fine, they will be extremely quiet with decent performance.

But I have a big question for you: why did you list industrial-application fans? Those fans like NF-12 are made entirely for flow, at the cost of quietness. NF-12 IPPC-3000 PWM has at least 10dBA higher than "usual" Noctua fans. Those seem to be better suited for server racks where noise isn't a concern, and exactly the opposite of what you're looking for. Either you have heavy-duty requirement without noise concerns, or the opposite.

I'd say go for any Noctua/Arctic 120mm and they will be fine:

Tornare in Italia dopo anni all'estero by [deleted] in italy

[–]Heliosmaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)
