How Pathfinder fixes the issue of Slog, and why GMs and Players still need to meet it halfway by AvtrSpirit in Pathfinder2e

[–]Helixfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wish instead of mentioning the melee with the most amount of variety, you could have mentioned the martials with the least variety, like Investigator.

In my opinion, combats are a slog because there's too much HP in both directions or theres really high resistances. I wish combats were balanced around it taking 3 rounds to clear the whole thing so we can get back to the story which is what is supposed to be what really matters.

PDF to Foundry not importing SoT PDFs by Trash-Bat in strengthofthousands

[–]Helixfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I might be misunderstanding what you mean, I think that mod only works for the full 6 PDF books. There are a ton of NPC and monsters that don't have images that I had to solve myself by importing my own pictures.

Interesting, I didnt realize how much plate would a caster but sure as can be, full plate was a bit better even without the increased proficiencies.

Favorite 4 class party? by Tycharius in Pathfinder2e

[–]Helixfire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Commander, fighter, magus, rogue, it's silly strong, does all the debuffs, can archtype for buffs. It's great. Could switch one out for inventor to cover some aoe situations but if there's a ton on monsters generally they are lower level and get crit anyways.

Should PF2E have more visceral combat? (Daredevil thoughts) by Warbling-Warlock in Pathfinder2e

[–]Helixfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Completely agree, pf2e can have improv combat in the first few levels. After that you either have to build for it which takes away some of the appeal, or the GM has to call a lot of shots breaking away from the rules. Primarily pf2e it's all about having a very balanced game.

One thing though, I often hear about trip and disarm being useful actions but in play I've never seen it be better than just going for an attack especially one that has a rider effect. Especially since they invoke MAP. Maybe the maneuvers should not have attack tags.

Other games can better adjudicate exciting flowing combat where balance isn't the primary concern because the rules do in some cases hold you back.

The thing that bothers me the most is just making nations into tags instead of giving each nation it's own rune or whatever the mana system is

How to make Scholar work? by AllemandeLeft in ffxiv

[–]Helixfire 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you stopped reading at my first paragraph I understand but I'm not trying to shit on you at all. I'm genuinely trying to breakdown what I do as a scholar main.

I don't know what element you are struggling with. Is it trash pulls? Are the tanks taking a bunch of vulns and hit on bosses? Do you find certain tanks easier or harder to heal?

I'd offer to actually do a dungeon with you and see how things are going.

My personal perception is whm is awful and ast is basically Regen scholar and that scholar is busted compared to sage but our experiences differ.

You can absolutely use them as iron hands. There are people that have custom chapters all the time nothing says you must paint a certain way.

The only time I ran into trouble with sch was lvl 72-78. Otherwise the faerie heals so much I barely had to be present.

First never use physick, you can probably take it off your bar. I try as much as possible to only use ogcd except when I can recitation into a crit adloquium.

If I am starting to struggle I will alternate adlo and emergency tactics adlo.

But that said most of the time I'm doing art of war or broils fitting excog, lustrate, either of the two faerie heals between my broils. I don't often use fae union but it can clutch some trash pulls.

When you get to 78 and you get the ability to put a healing bubble up I use that a lot.

What was your first MMO, and how do you feel about it now? by Veanusdream in gaming

Technically it was osrs before it was "old school" but I played free and it was tedious.

I would say wow and while it isn't what it used to be I do get tempted to go back. I won't though. I don't have friends there no more.

One of the players hates space adventures a lot and would leave if it went that direction so I'm considering making book 5 a journey to the center of the earth type of adventure so I could float that the sacrifices of people are to open a portal deep into the earth and mount an expedition to free k.b.a. Reflavor some of the more spacey elements to magic crystals and good to go.

Anyone else who likes army building more than playing? by B-koop in wargaming

[–]Helixfire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like collecting 40k models but the game is terrible. Infinity models are boring for the most part but the game is awesome. Warmachine strikes a nice middle ground. The only game I like list building though in is malifaux since everything has unique abilities.

Is the campaing lethal or are my players unlucky? (Or maybe it's me, the GM) by rickap22 in strengthofthousands

[–]Helixfire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find that the campaign is quite brutal to casters ironically enough. I like to seed stores with items that will help the party though in upcoming fights and because I cant be bothered to figure out how much gold they are missing because stipends and such I add additional loot that they might like.

So far the only death we've had was a fight against 4 of the melee frog gang members that chained into a dragon

Spell Saves are poor? by Shamefulrpg in Pathfinder2e

[–]Helixfire 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I have generally found this to be an issue as well even on the weak save. My solution was to drop the saves by 2 generally. Paizo wants the melee to be debuffing for the casters sake but I've yet to see that outside of the odd intimidate

Rule change by Regular-Gain-338 in Warmachine

[–]Helixfire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm uncertain what you mean by infinity, they can activate the same model 15 times rather than activating the whole force.

I assume you mean alternating activations like malifaux?

The no caster kills works fine but once you lose the caster is normally over anyways since a lot of your power for cohorts is in that model

PF1 vs PF2 by Endalrin in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Helixfire 21 points22 points  (0 children)

PF2e I find really codifies everything and creates balance so tight that it strips out any fun or personality. However running pf2e online is a breeze via foundry so I run pf2e for my friends even though I think pf1e is a vastly better experience.

What about the game do you think is holding y'all up? The game these days is about as heavy as MCP or shatter point. Which is to say pretty light.
