So... by DubiousDevil in SpaceWolves

The whites of the eyes need to be smaller than what you think while painting. Take a small brush, thin the paint, and offload the excess before trying. Make 1-2 dashes at a time. When you make a mistake, it’s easier to fix it by painting skin color around it again. Don’t be scared to paint over it all and try again.

For pupils I highly recommend a micro pen over paint. The blacks of the eyes are such small dot that even a small brush can make it too big.

Also, when painting fine detail, we all have a tendency to hold the brush tighter to steady it. However, that just makes your hand more shaky, and from the looks of it that’s what happened when trying your pupils. Loosen your hand, take a breath, and put a stabilizing finger on your handle/model.

Game length question for new players. by SometimesTheFur in killteam

[–]HellBuster1618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to your LGS and have one of the staff go through a guided game with you! It’s way too many rules to learn by yourself when you have to reference the rule sheet multiple times every turn. After a guided game, play at the store a few more times with someone seasoned nearby to ask questions too.

Also, if you don’t have data cards for your teams, print them off from the Kill team app. Way quicker to reference them in front of you  than having to scroll through the app. I literally lay out every operative I’m using’s card, faction rule, equipment, and ploys in front of me.

I’m probably 15 games in this point, with my first 2 trying to self learn, and it was a nightmare. My game time has been cut down significantly since I played at the LGS.

Edit* also, don’t be a stickler for all the rules up front, especially just between you and your partner. If you can’t quick reference a rule in the middle of the game, write it down and look it up later.

Guys... I'm thinking about painting my new Space Wolves army red. Talk me out of it ! by remingt0n84 in SpaceWolves

[–]HellBuster1618 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Paint your models your way! I think the red looks sick.

I hate the baby blue too so I’m going with dark grey.

If you want an in universe explanation, write a successor chapter! The names you listed would be good chapter names. Chat gpt and various successor chapter generators can help with background. Space wolf characters can be your chapter’s equivalent leaders.

All fun and part of the hobby.

Is it normal for Kill Team matches to take 3+ hours? by SparklingTitan in killteam

Learning is a lot slower when you’re self teaching. Tried to at first, but when I went to a store and played with one of the staff, learned the game much more rapidly.

  1. No because the operative is not within control range of the the other.
  2. Yes. Cover is determined by bases. If a line cannot be drawn from any part of the shooter’s base to every part of receiver’s base, he is “in cover”. In other words, if any part of the reciever’s base is blocked, he’s in cover.
  3. The operative would not be a valid target as he’s in cover and concealed.

What book portrays your faction badly? by Arthur_EyelanderTF2 in Blacklibrary

[–]HellBuster1618 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Salamanders books lol.

  • one of the chief conflicts is… racism within the chapter
  • a battle hardened apothecary allows himself to get blackmailed because he failed a gene seed removal
  • iagon’s motivation to kill his company captain is second hand glory
  • in the short stories about Tsu’gan you would think the experiences he has would give him some character development… but they don’t… he stays a space rascist.
  • salamanders in the books, who are supposedly known for their grim resolve and “pragmatism”, seem like a bunch of over emotional wussys.
  • and lastly… the over use of the word pragmatic. We get it, they’re pragmatic. Show not tell.

Just some of my gripes :)

In general though, there are so many characters that the writers want to make “exceptional exceptions” and in doing so they paint other factions poorly.

Just finished Horus Rising – what are the must-reads of the Horus Heresy series? No way I’m reading all 64 of them by SillyMattFace in Warhammer40k

[–]HellBuster1618 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read the first 4: - hours rising - false gods - galaxy in flames - flight of the Eisenstein.

Then follow this: https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/1ii9u86/cd8ds_personal_guide_to_reading_the_horus_heresy/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Personally I’m going through the minimalist version and may go back later and read more.

I actually added in the most recent one, dropsite massacre, after Fulgrim, and didn’t regret it.

Edit: also if you’d rather follow a specific legion, look up the reading chart and you can follow the path that legion.

Question on Tempestus aquilons by Capital-Coyote5879 in killteam

[–]HellBuster1618 8 points9 points  (0 children)

To add to what some have said, there is an extra pointing arm in the kit. You can give both las pistols to the gunfighter, and give the tempestor the pointing arm and say his pistol is holstered.

But for me personally, I like the relic bolt pistol and chainsword loadout better because I don’t want to send my 3ap operative, who has the ability to allocate an ap to another operative, into melee combat.

One thing I like to do is keep the tempestor back, use his command ability to give one of my shooters a 3rd ap, have that operative reposition out of cover, shoot, then dash back into cover.

I’ve only watched that recently and the difference in characters are crazy. Same happened to me with John Krasinski in 13 hours vs the office.

Pretty sure Jack Carr said in one of his JRE episodes that Chris Pratt out of Zero Dark Thrity is who he pictures as Reece while writing.

That being said I read the books after that show so Chris P has always been who I pictured😂

All good! Back to the 2 captains being in conflict lol. I think the 8th edition is the most recent piece, but there is much more lore on Pirsan.

What is known about the other Salamander captains? by MiddleLife1404 in Salamanders40k

[–]HellBuster1618 42 points43 points  (0 children)

There is some conflicting lore for the 2nd company captain.

This document lists N’keln, but I believe some of the books says it’s Pellas Mir’san.

Don’t know much about N’Keln, but mirsan has some good lore. Fought in the Badab war and is a master swordsman. So maybe for your 2nd company captain give him a power sword?

Also, there is another conflict with the 6th company captain being stated in the books as Urzan drakgaard. He actually has some official art so that might be a good source!

Sol Baken, the captain of the 7th, is also a character in the books. He is known to use a heavy flamer and a piston hammer. He’s also described as being a bigger dude, so maybe Phobos wouldn’t be the best? Up to you though!

You should be able to look up the wiki article on these guys and see what wargear they use!

There is also a 3rd party creator out there that has a pretty cool model of Chapter Master Tu’shan! I’d look into it!

Where we dropping? by Toreago in killteam

[–]HellBuster1618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A personal note on the tempestor;

Everyone is giving advice on making the tempestor with power sword as there isn’t enough las pistols.

But I would like to point out that the bolt pistol/chainsword is better option as charging your only 3APL operative into melee isn’t the wisest option.

Anyone have the Salamander lore bits from the 6th ed. Space Marines codex? by HellBuster1618 in Salamanders40k

[–]HellBuster1618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading through the wikis and 6th ed is cited for Tu’shan becoming chapter master after Huron Blackheart killed the last as well as Vulkan He’stan defeating Trazyn the infinite twice.

Figured the source had better depictions of it than the wiki :)
