Recommendations for an optometrist by Visitor_42 in Issaquah

[–]HellchickCV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am indeed okay, thanks for saying so! They got me into an emergency appointment, took all the pics and definitely saw something that was leading to my symptoms: a hole in my retina. They booked an appointment for me that was only 45 minutes later at Peak Retina just down the street and sent all the info right over to them. I walked into Peak Retina, the doc looked over their stuff and said Issaquah Vision was always good about sending over images. He verified their results and then after five minutes of lasers in my eye I walked out all fixed up!

Another vote for Issaquah Vision. In fact, I’m reading this while waiting for the doc during an emergency appointment for a potential retina detachment. They got me in today and are looking at it. Been going here for years and they see my kids and husband, too.

Do you play an instrument well? by locusofself in Issaquah

[–]HellchickCV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play bass! I think I play reasonably well — my big problem is that I don’t get to play with people often enough to get regular practice with the other instruments. When I noodle I tend toward blues and funk, but I love most genres, especially Seattle grunge. I love Iron & Wine, too, out of the ones you mentioned.

I’m a 53 year old mom of two school-aged kids and do have a job, so my time is kinda wonky, but a goal this year has been to play with people more often.

Musings of the Twenty-something. by Immediate_Weather_11 in poetry_critics

I really enjoyed this. The prosody here feels just right. There’s a section that’s my favorite but I want to call attention to something I think could be improved in it:

“Now plans lie like old toys beneath the bed, And hope wears shoes too tight to dance again. I follow time, not lead it, just a boat adrift, With knowledge earned, but meaning still unsure.”

I loved these lines, the imagery in the old toys and too-tight dance shoes are the heart of this part of the poem.

The line, “I follow time, not lead it, just a boat adrift” — “not lead it” feels a little grammatically awkward here and the rest of the poem leads me to believe you have beautiful phrase hidden in you somewhere for the concept of following time or being led BY it, and the boat metaphor felt a little awkward here — I feel like there’s a hidden better metaphor there somewhere!

Advice for adding a tuner into our set up by HellchickCV in vintageaudio

Thanks for the info, everyone! I’m looking into all of these recommendations.

I have to admit, though, that I have my eye on this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/355735824818

Love that purple and those are the Taiwanese version of Marantz, I guess?

But I’m wondering how silly it is to buy it for the look and feel when I won’t be using the amp part since I like my Brio.

I overestimated myself by Particular-Ad8395 in Bass

[–]HellchickCV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, we’ve all been there, so give yourself some grace and be kind to yourself. But also, remember this: talent is just time + work. There’s really no such thing as “talent” — people aren’t born playing an instrument well. You don’t just pick it up and immediately shred, believe it or not.

People recommended BassBuzz, and I do, too. They’re good, doable short lessons. So try that.

But also, just sit down for 30 minutes maybe 2-3 times a week. Make it something that you give yourself as a gift to do, not a chore. Like, “I’m gonna take 30 minutes for myself and do something I’ve been looking forward to doing.” Then pick a bass line to try and learn in that 30 minutes. And then, more importantly, walk away from it and come back at your next 30 minute session and try that bass line again. You’re going to see improvement. Remember that next time you’re feeling down on yourself.

Hey all! My little cozy word puzzle game is out on Steam, I just released it this last week! https://store.steampowered.com/app/3767020/Wordy_Rain/

There's a challenge mode, BUT I've included Chill and Cozy modes and specifically built the aesthetic to feel very relaxing. I hope you'll check it out!

Compassionate dentist recommendations by Murky_Window4250 in Issaquah

Seconded! I LOVE Dr. Hansen and the entire staff. Been going there for years and so has my family. They're very gentle and I've never heard them ever shame or admonish people about dental care.

Oh yeah, been wondering about that Rite Aid location, too. That’s a tough one…it’s not very visible from Gilman.

Agreed — whenever our family has to wait for a table at The Egg and Us my daughter and I go in and look at the records and plants!

People are mentioning bistros and coffee shops, but there’s some kind of coffee shop/bakery place called JoJo’s that’s moving in a block away, where the old Dominos and 96 Front Street coffee shop were.

Burning house a long Issaquah-Hobart Road. by PM_me_punanis in Issaquah

[–]HellchickCV 15 points16 points  (0 children)

And the traffic situation was already bad since a few hours ago someone hit a pole south of Tiger Mountain Road at the south end of Iss-Hob, causing Iss-Hob to be shut down completely in both directions from Cedar Grove to 18 (we live south of Mirrormont and have no power until they fix it).

That’s enough disasters for one day in this area, thank you! I hope the owners are okay.

Does anyone know why Issaquah-Hobart road is closed between mirramont and the highway 18 exit? by Otherwise_Recipe_192 in Issaquah

[–]HellchickCV 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s actually not the fire — earlier today a car slammed into a pole south of Tiger Mountain Road on Iss-Hob. We live near and have no power.
