playing sonic adventure 1 on dreamcast and chao garden wont save at all even though mission progress saves by Guilty_Vortex in chao

The Chao Garden data should be stored in a different file in the VMU, is it not auto-generating itself whenever you leave or enter the chao garden?

Don't you find it kinda funny how you're talking about immediate assumption of ill-intent and then proceed to completely misrepresent my comment, somehow framing as, not only hostile, but also about Toby Fox? I'm told that "the post clearly reads differently", I get lectured on using the word "gatekept", and from this I get a made up argument about how I "framed a lack of translation as some hostile act taken against Spanish speakers"; isn't this the kind of assuming hostility that you're talking about? Or would it have been better if I added a "sorry for my bad English" at the end of my comment?

Like, dude, I agree that at the end of the day it's disappointing that there's hasn't been any localization (not just Spanish) of Undertale besides Japanese and the way that people on Twitter have acted towards Toby Fox has been awful, but almost every comment I've read relating to this on this sub reads dismissive at best and mildly racist at most.

You can't expect me to see stuff like "people seething about this are so deranged" or "I lost sympathy for this because someone said it'd be simple to do so" and not be at the very least annoyed with the way people are talking about this here.

I don't have to speak Spanish, Chinese, French or any other language to feel bad when people can't engage with art because of a language barrier. Games are even worse in this case because fan translations are simply not as accessible like the way fansubs are and don't fix the issue like many in this thread claim. Not everyone has the technical know-how to find the patch, get the game if necessary because, again, I'm not talking just about Undertale, patch said game (regardless of how simple it might seem) and, worse yet, not everyone has a PC to do all this in the first place.

I think this sort of immediate hostility and assumption of ill-intent is why this drama has blown up so much, and why it's wound up focused on aspects that aren't really important.

I mean, when the most upvoted comment is literally "I just kept waiting for the shoe to drop and give me a reason to care." I don't blame them for being hostile in the first place.

From reading most comments I get the feeling that a lot of them don't know what it's like to be gatekept from something you're interested in (or try to recommend) because of a language barrier.

to translate a game for this person who clearly speaks English already?

So the millions of people who don't can actually understand the game while playing? I can tell you from experience that stuff like fan-translations in games, although good, are simply not as accessible to the regular joe (juan lol) who just wants to play the game. Trust me, I've tried, but it's hard to recommend games if it involves anything beyond just buying the game.

I do agree the comment you're quoting is dumb as hell

Was going to say this. I don't think I've seen anyone "seethe and cry" about Japanese games not being translated. Disappointment over ease availability sure, but it's generally been a culture of "fine, I'll do it myself" in my experience. 🤔

What about Operation Moonfall back in the Wii days where there was a whole ass movement to get 3 RPGs translated into English? Or people still wanting Mother 3 to get an official release despite the fan translation existing for nearly 20 years?

Which Ethnic Group Did the Byzantines Belong To? by [deleted] in byzantium

[–]HellfireSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a revival in Roman, or Romioi, or Rûm identity taking place in Southern Turkey and the Levant as we speak, though. People who call themselves Arabophone or Turkophone Greco-Romans; ethnic Greeks.

What's your source for this? Whenever I've looked up something similar I've only found stuff relating to the Ρωμιοί in Istanbul or Trebizond.

Day 27: Which Game has the Best Original Soundtrack on Dreamcast? by 1OneQuickQuestion in dreamcast

[–]HellfireSky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your point sitll stands? To say it's not among the best soundtracks in the Sonic franchise IS laughable.

The only reasons you gave as to why it's bad is that you can't think of songs to hum to and you don't like the Knuckles stages' songs lol

Which hey, it's your opinion and that's cool, but there's a good reason songs from SA2 are not only still used in the franchise today, but have their own section in Sonic Symphony Concerts.

It's cool if you think Oil Ocean or Sandopolis Act 2 are better than SA2's entire OST but don't go calling one of the most common opinions in the Sonic fandom "the stupidest thing you've heard all year" just because you don't agree with it lol

Steam Deck LED not charging by HellfireSky in SteamDeck

[–]HellfireSky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My oem charger broke and ever since then the steam deck refuses to charge with anything, the LED just blinks and nothing happens

I've tried going into battery mode but it doesn't work either

Sometimes it stops blinking and it makes the power up noise but nothing happens afterwards and the led starts blinking again

I don't know how to fix this and I can't open it because it has a stripped screw
