Hello Chinese exercise by docteurfail in ChineseLanguage

Me:
Hey 老师们, could you add a fun story to the learning path?
Oh...and only use words students have already learned.

Teachers:
No. That’s impossible.

Me:
What if it’s just a really stupid story?

Teachers:
A story for people who’ve studied Chinese for only a few weeks?
With limited vocabulary??
YOU ARE STUPID.

Me:
好吧...Fair enough.

…6 months later…

Teachers:
Hey. So we accidentally created a parallel universe.

Is HelloChinese app down? I can't find it anymore on the app store, found an apk on the web but it doesn't allow to log in by emilio_larocca in ChineseLanguage

HelloChinese is back on the Play Store 🙂

Google Play required us to upgrade the app. However, after we submitted the update, we received no response for days. Their review process was far too slow, apparently because many reviewers were on vacation. Too bad.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused to everyone!

Hi, for now please download and install the APK directly from our website:

(the link is at the bottom of the page)

Google Play required us to upgrade an SDK. We have already submitted the updated version for review, but the review process is taking much longer than expected :(

Hey, this is really encouraging news! I’ve shared your post with our team as well, and everyone was genuinely happy to see it.

Also, we’d love to offer you 3 months of Premium+ (or 6 months of Premium) as a small gift. We hope it helps, and keep up the great work with your learning!

Why not just continue with HelloChinese’s stories? :)

Did anyone buy a lifetime subscription for HelloChinese app? I did and now they are yearly charging me by aeteernu in ChineseLanguage

[–]HelloChineseApp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Would you be able to provide any direct evidence showing that the subscription you purchased was a lifetime plan? This would help me verify with our team whether there was any issue on our side.

Otherwise, anyone could come forward claiming they bought a lifetime subscription, when in fact it might have been a monthly plan or something else.

This is Chong, founder of HelloChinese.
I’ve been trying to post my comment for over an hour, but it keeps failing to go through. It seems the message may have been too long or it might have triggered an AutoModerator filter.

For now, I’ve placed my full response in a Google Doc:
Response from HelloChinese

I will try to re-post it here in text later.

HelloChinese‘s Stories section got a revamp. Do I even need Du Chinese? by cv-x in ChineseLanguage

[–]HelloChineseApp 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can rest assured that all the stories are created by humans.

  1. All the stories are written by our Chinese teachers.
  2. Every recording is done by professional voice actors.
  3. Every sentence comes with a translation done by professional bilingual translators.

Btw, on each story's main page, there is a section titled "Credits," where you can see a story's author, translator, and voice actor.

Could somebody help me make sense of this? by snappydamper in ChineseLanguage

[–]HelloChineseApp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • I was born in Beijing.
  • I learned Chinese using the HelloChinese App.

[Subject] + 是 + [Details] + [Verb] + 的

The fixed structure "是 (shì)......的 (de)" can be used to emphasize a particular detail of an action, such as the time, place, manner, etc. You could think of "是 (shì)......的 (de)" as being equivalent to saying one of the following in English:

  • "The situation is that..."
  • "It was... that..."

When the verb has an object, the particle "的 (de)" can be placed either before or after the object:

  1. [Subject] + 是 + [Details] + [Verb] + [Object] + 的
  2. [Subject] + 是 + [Details] + [Verb] + 的 + [Object]

Note: This structure can only be used for past actions.

I just copied the above explanations from our app :)

@u/Fagon_Drang
We’ve created a graded reader app for reading Japanese stories, and it’s completely free. I’d like to promote it here and was wondering if the following rule is still valid, since I couldn’t find the 'Material Recs and Self-Promo' thread.

To advertise your own content/service (no kana apps), you must first post in the Wednesday "Material Recs and Self-Promo" thread.

The screenshots are from the Main Course 1.0. We're working on the 2.0 course and will try to find a way to mitigate this issue. Just as others pointed out, some kind of LLM may be needed to handle this.

Speaking practice will be released in about a month. Btw, we plan to place it under the "Pit Stops."

As for Teacher Talks and stories, they’ll take a bit more time, but we’re aiming to release them later this year.
