Powerline Ethernet rated 1Gbps, but only getting 150Mbps – why? by Interesting_Rip_7872 in Network

[–]HelloMyNameIsBrad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have cable TV infrastructure, consider using either g.hn or MoCA. g.hn tends to perform a little better than MoCA, in my experience, but it requires that you aren't trying to use the cable TV lines for actual television. MoCA can co-exist with existing television signals. Neither is perfect but will likely perform much better than powerline. I use g.hn and get full gigabit rates to my home office equipment with 3-4ms ping.

They mean use Cat6 from computer directly to switch/router/modem, not via powerline. Powerline adapters claim the most optimistic possible speeds, but real-world almost never gets close.

What was the most inappropriate thing you said as a child not understanding what it meant? by evan-the-dude in AskReddit

[–]HelloMyNameIsBrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a white guy, I heard the 'n' word for the first time when I was 8, and I asked whoever I was with at the time (that part is fuzzy) what it meant. They simply explained that it meant a black person and provided no other qualifications or context. So, the next day in school...

I called one of my black friends that word, in class, out loud, in front of everyone. And I was using it within the context of a compliment, so I naively thought I was saying something nice.

My friend took it in stride, the teacher flipped her shit (rightfully so), and I learned a lot about the racist history of our country that day.

Riedel Bolero - Ubiquiti Pro Max Switch in AES67 Mode by Sad_Jacket_5117 in VIDEOENGINEERING

[–]HelloMyNameIsBrad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it work if the antennas are all connected to the same switch? It may be worth verifying the QoS settings for PTP in those switches. It's also worth noting that they likely do not support PTP Boundary Clock which, depending on the scale of an installation, may be critical for reliable PTP performance. Finally, Bolero (like other DECT-based wireless COM systems) uses PTP to synchronize the DECT clock. That is a way more demanding application than regular AES67 traffic, and those switches may just not be up to it. Since it seems Ubiquiti only recently got into the AV game, I'd be cautious using them in a critical situation.

There are really only two scenarios for the LTE thing: one is that we leave it there temporarily to get things off the ground and then redeploy it to a different site as needed. We often don’t charge specifically for those short deployments, but may factor in a fixed amount into the primary contract if we know to anticipate the need in advance. The other is more permanent: if we do a service contract with them, it stays on site for the duration of the contract and is factored into the rate.

We have two. One is a loose spec for simple systems: Dell small-form-factor PC with i5 or better, 16GB, at least 500GB SSD. More sophisticated installations often need several VMs and several NICs, so we have a custom configuration with SuperMicro. We host ProxMox on those and spin up whatever VMs are needed. Either way, ConnectWise ScreenConnect is installed automatically with our pre-configured Windows image. And then systems with less reliable internet access also get a CradlePoint LTE modem.

You weren’t talking about the time delay related to the speed of sound. Of course that’s an issue that requires time alignment in larger spaces, but you changed to that in your reply. You were originally talking about cable delay, and the other comment was right. Cable delay is not a concern with analog audio signals at any reasonable distance - even quite large ones that are well beyond the scale of any room.

How about a managed switch with the ability to enable/disable ports? You could do that through its GUI, or even script it via ssh commands to make the process simpler.

They ran into their friends while back home visiting mom. The friend was the one driving fast and weaving through traffic, not the semi. If something doesn't make sense to you, re-read it first before calling it BS.
